Patent number: 8267105Abstract: The portable magnetic awning apparatus is easily attached to and removed from a chosen metallic vehicle or surface. Soft magnets negate potential scarring. In the collapsed state, the apparatus is importantly relatively small. The scissor frame supporting the awning easily collapses to allow the vertical members to be collapsed inwardly to a side-by-side position, with the pivoting members pivoting upwardly for further compact state. The pliable awning and bib further enable lightweight collapsibility. The pivoting members which are pivotally and positionally lockable, along with the telescopic rods, provide a wide variety of selectively established positioning and extendability. Lock knobs manually lock the pivoting members as chosen relative to the vertical members. The bib is hingedly attached to the awning to further provide selective positioning in relation thereto.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2010Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Inventor: Cleveland Denmark, Jr.

The rafter has a fitting for releasably holding it to the support. The pivoting arrangement enables pivoting of the rafter to a position so that the fitting is adjacent the wall. The fitting can be releasably held to the wall. The rafter has a tensioning arrangement with a mechanical advantage, and a link pivoting the rafter to the wall serves as a support to lift a stored awning. A roller support for the awning can rotate without affecting the tension of the awning.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1991Date of Patent: March 10, 1992Assignee: The Dometic CorporationInventor: Brent Murray

Patent number: 4874196Abstract: A truck cover having an improved telescopic arm assembly for drawing a cover across an open topped truck body or other vessel or container. The assembly is powered by a pneumatic, hydraulic or other power source and comprises a pair of pivoting telescopic arms motivated by actuators The activators cause the telescopic arms to move pivotally from one end of the container to the opposite end and during the pivotal movement to cause the telescopic arms to retract as they move to a vertical position and to extend as they move from the vertical position to the opposite end of the container. The extension and retraction of the telescopic arms during pivotal movement from one end of the container to the opposite end causes a flexible cover carried by the upper ends of the telescopic arms to be drawn across the container in a low trajectory resulting in improved ease and safety of operation and reduced opportunity for damage to the flexible cover.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1987Date of Patent: October 17, 1989Assignee: Pioneer Consolidated Corp.Inventors: Harvey R. Patent number: 4836263Abstract: A window screen or shade, in particular for motor vehicles, includes a wind-up roller biassed in the wind-up direction that is rotatably journalled in a base and on which shade or screen web is secured with one end. The other edge of the web is mounted in an end rail, which is engaged by at least one extension element of an extension structure located in the vicinity of the wind-up roller, in order to unwind the web counter to the biassing of the spring mechanism for the wind-up roller. To enable dispensing with additional guide elements for the end rail, which support the window shade in the direction at right angles to the spread-open web, the extension element is substantially rigid, at least in a direction at right angles to the plane of the web defined by the extended web, and when the web is extended can move in a plane parallel to this plane of the web.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1987Date of Patent: June 6, 1989Assignee: Baumeister & GatlerInventor: Eduard Ament

Patent number: 4719954Abstract: An awning assembly which is particularly suited for recreational vehicles includes a pair of telescoping support arm assemblies and a pair of folding rafter arm assemblies. A roller is rotatably supported by the support arm assemblies, and an awning is wound and unwound on the roller. Each of the telescoping support arm assemblies includes inner and outer telescoping arms and a cable which is connected to the arms and to the roller for extending the telescoping arms when the roller unwinds the awning. Each of the folding rafter arm assemblies includes a pair of pivotally connected rafter arms, a latch pin for locking the rafter arms in an extended position, and a latch release which enables the rafter arms to pivot when the awning is wound up.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1986Date of Patent: January 19, 1988Assignee: The Coleman Company, Inc.Inventors: Richard D. Patent number: 4658877Abstract: An improved upper bracket is provided for a retractable awning of the type which includes a flexible cover sheet anchored along one edge to a vertical support surface with the opposite edge of the cover sheet being secured to a roll bar adapted to be moved toward and away from the supporting surface so that the awning can be retracted or extended respectively. The roll bar has a pair of support arms connected at opposite ends thereof which are adapted to support the roll bar at a pre-selected elevation from the horizontal surface and a pair of brace members extendable from an upper bracket to an associated end of the roll bar to hold the roll bar in an extended position spaced from the vertical support surface. A lower bracket is also mounted on the vertical support surface beneath the upper bracket and is adapted to retain the distal end of an associated brace member as well as a lower end of an associated support arm when the awning is in its retracted position.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1985Date of Patent: April 21, 1987Assignee: The Scott & Fetzer CompanyInventor: Antony W. Patent number: 4640332Abstract: An awning support assembly for an awning apparatus (20) mounted on a vehicle (24) includes a clamp assembly (60) attachable at any point along a support tube (30) of the awning apparatus. Clamp assembly (60) has two clamp members (62,64), each having hook-shaped ends (66,68) engageable within grooves or openings in support tube (30). The opposite adjacent ends of clamp members (62,64) when drawn together pull clamp assembly (60) against support tube (24). A telescoping compression member (34) is rotatably attached to clamp (60) to push outwardly on support tube (30). A lever (90) is manually operated to extend compression member (36) to impart a desired load on support tube (30). A telescoping leg support (38) is rotatably connected to clamp assembly (60) and is locked in desired extended position by movable rack (136) engaging fixed rack (134).Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1985Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Inventor: Joe D. Patent number: 4068673Abstract: An awning type sunshade particularly for beaches, gardens and the like, comprising a supporting frame associated with a support member. At an intermediate point of the supporting frame the ends of a pair of telescoping arms are articulated. At their other ends, the arms are connected with the ends of a front member which is movable with respect to the supporting frame. The arms are pivotable at an intermediate point about a substantially perpendicular axis with respect to the front member direction of movement. The end of an awning is connected with the front member. The awning is connected at the other end thereof, with a take-up roller rotatably supported by the supporting frame. A means is provided for blocking or locking the rotation of the arms and/or the telescoping movement thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1976Date of Patent: January 17, 1978Inventor: Dario Bernardi

Patent number: 3980121Abstract: A bracket mountable on a supporting surface for retaining a pair of awning support members in a retracted juxtapositional storage position has a pair of side plate members retained in spaced parallel vertically oriented relationship by a cross-web member defining uniform channels on opposite sides thereof. The side plate members pivotally support the lower end of one of the support members and defines a space rearwardly of the one support member into which the lower end of the other support member can be inserted to retain the support members in juxtapositional relationship adjacent to the supporting surface.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1975Date of Patent: September 14, 1976Assignee: The Scott & Fetzer CompanyInventor: Donald S.
