  • Patent number: 8132527
Abstract: An electrode mixture paste (5) is applied on both sides of a strip of core material (1) as it runs along its lengthwise direction, and the coating thickness of the paste (5) is adjusted as the core material (1) coated with the paste (5) passes through a gap between a pair of scraper tools (16a, 16b). Tips (18) provided to the scraper tools (16a, 16b) scrape off the paste (5) to form a paste-coated portion of a predetermined width. The electrode mixture paste (5) scraped off with the tips (18) is returned through recesses (19) on the upstream side of the tips (18) in the running direction of the core material, so as to prevent the phenomenon where the coating thickness is increased at both side edges of the paste-coated portion. Thus, a method for applying electrode mixture paste is realized that can prevent the phenomenon where the coating thickness is increased at both side edges of the paste-coated portion and prevent process failures such as deformation of paste-coated sheet.

  • Patent number: 8097122
Abstract: Segments, typically ceramic, for use in dewatering blades for papermaking and similar machines comprise lower surfaces to each of which at least one interlock member is bonded. The segments are installed by inserting the interlock members into a channel in an intermediate sub-assembly or base member. The members are securely attached within the channel by a suitable adhesive, or clip means to engage the interlock members, with the optional addition of an adhesive. The segments and dewatering blades, and a method of manufacture, allows for the segments to be made as flat units, without unnecessary angular surfaces, simplifies their attachment to the base, and reduces the occurrence of stress cracking or other damage to the segments. A single segment can be used in various dewatering blade types and in more than one orientation in dewatering blades, reducing manufacturing costs by unitizing construction.

  • Patent number: 5078835
Abstract: A ledge for resiliently supporting a paper making machine wire has a head ledge which extends across the direction of travel of the wire and over which the wire can slide. The head ledge is rigidly connected to a movable support ledge which also extends across the direction of travel of the wire and is guided on a stationary support structure. Between the movable support ledge and the stationary structure there is a resilient push device which can displace the movable support ledge together with the head ledge between a position of rest away from the wire and an operating position in which the head ledge is pressed with a predetermined force against the wire. The stationary structure has several guide arms distributed over the length of the support ledge which are the exclusive means for guiding the movable support ledge. Several guide arms arranged in pairs are provided which grip around the support ledge, in the manner of a clamp.

Abstract: A twin-wire former for the production of a web of paper from a fiber suspension. An upper endless loop of wire belt having a lower horizontal run and a lower endless loop wire belt having an upper horizontal run. Guide rolls support the wire belts to define a twin-wire zone. The upstream inlet wedge of the twin-wire zone is disposed at the outlet from a head box. The initial part of the path of the twin-wire zone has a gradual curvature convexly with respect to the lower wire belt, and in that initial portion are positioned guide tables, suction boxes and dewatering elements. This curved initial part is followed by a forming roll within the loop of the upper wire belt. The twin-wires wrap an arcuate sector of the lower region of the forming roll. A support roll follows the forming roll. The support roll is upraised sufficiently to wrap the twin-wires around the bottom of the forming roll and over an arcuate sector at the top of the support roll.

  • Patent number: 4968387
Abstract: The lateral edges of a papermachine forming fabric pond are contained by a deckle board having a bottom edge positioned above the forming fabric upper surface elements but below the fabric supported stock pond surface. Lateral edges of the forming fabric run under the deckle board and upon an edge support beam within an elongated fluid channel between the outside surfaces of the deckle board structure and the inside surfaces of the edge support beam. Fluid flow within the elongated fluid channel, preferably independent of the papermachine headbox slice opening, supplies the elongated fluid channel volume for a fluid barrier to pond stock loss under the deckle board bottom edge.

  • Patent number: 4857279
Abstract: Edible fats and oils are extracted from oil-bearing materials by loading the raw materials onto an inlet end of a flat and fixed conveying surface having elongate slits therein. The materials are conveyed from the inlet end to the outlet end of the conveying surface by scrapers moved by endless chains. Oil extracting solvent is sprayed onto the material on the conveying surface, to produce miscella, which flows through the slits in the surface and into hoppers beneath the surface. The miscella is circulated back to additional sprayers located upstream of the solvent sprayers for spraying the miscella onto the upstream end of the conveying surface. The resulting concentrated miscella is collected in hoppers beneath the surface and delivered to a further use.

  • Patent number: 4623429
Abstract: A lower wire loop of a paper machine has an initial single-wire portion of a dewatering zone defined by an initial portion of the wire of the lower wire loop, succeeded by an upper wire unit defining a twin-wire dewatering zone with a coinciding upper run of the wire of the lower wire loop. Dewatering occurs in the twin-water dewatering zone through the wire of the lower wire loop and the wire of the upper wire loop. The twin-wire dewatering zone is located above the level of the initial portion of the wire of the lower wire loop. A first dewatering element is a first forming shoe in the direction of the web run in the upper wire loop. The twin-wire zone curves in a first direction in a first sector on the first forming shoe so that dewatering occurs primarily through the wire of the lower wire loop. A second dewatering element is a second forming shoe following the first forming shoe and spaced therefrom in the lower wire loop.

  • Patent number: RE43679
Abstract: A process, and an apparatus, for improving sheet properties in the initial impingement zone of a paper making machine including a forming section, a forming fabric moving in the machine direction and a head box having a head box slice which delivers a stock jet onto the moving forming fabric. The scale and intensity of agitation within the stock is adjusted by adjusting some of the support elements beneath the forming fabric adjacent the head box slice so that they either contact, or do not contact, the machine side surface of the forming fabric and observing the effect, if any, that the adjustment has on the quality of the sheet product being made on the paper making machine. This technique is of use in a papermaking machine forming section having a single open surface forming fabric, in the initial open surface section of a so-called hybrid gap former having two superposed forming fabrics, and in the forming section of a two fabric papermaking machine.
