Publication number: 20120267065Abstract: An improved method for producing paper from pulp includes a plurality of subassemblies arranged in the forming or wet section of a Fourdrinier. The Fourdrinier includes a dewatering table having a plurality of blades that are static and on-the run adjustable in height and/or angle to control orientation of paper fibers in the stock to create a superior quality of paper and improved paper strength characteristics. Gravity and vacuum assisted drainage elements are equipped with on-the-run adjustable angle and height dewatering foil blades starting from a paper dryness of 0.1% and extending all the way to 5% dryness. The result of this process and machine is to improve the paper quality, save fibers and chemicals and fulfill the required paper properties.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 21, 2012Publication date: October 25, 2012Inventors: James Faufau, Andrew Foreslec

Publication number: 20040188051Abstract: The invention relates to a method of draining a fibre pulp suspension, where the fibre pulp suspension is applied to a convergent dewatering space arranged between two wires travelling in the same direction. In the dewatering space, water and powdery substance are removed from the fibre pulp suspension through the wires. Pressure pulses are generated in the fibre pulp suspension along the length of the dewatering space with pressure pulse elements that are on opposite sides of the wires relative to the fibre pulp suspension and in contact with or at a distance from the wires. The invention also relates to an apparatus according to the method.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 2004Publication date: September 30, 2004Applicant: Metso Paper, Inc.Inventor: Vesa Juutinen

Patent number: 6780286Abstract: A process, and an apparatus, for improving sheet properties in the initial impingement zone of a paper making machine including a forming section, a forming fabric moving in the machine direction and a head box having a head box slice which delivers a stock jet onto the moving forming fabric. The scale and intensity of agitation within the stock is adjusted by adjusting some of the support elements beneath the forming fabric adjacent the head box slice so that they either contact, or do not contact, the machine side surface of the forming fabric and observing the effect, if any, that the adjustment has on the quality of the sheet product being made on the paper making machine. This technique is of use in a papermaking machine forming section having a single open surface forming fabric, in the initial open surface section of a so-called hybrid gap former having two superposed forming fabrics, and in the forming section of a two fabric papermaking machine.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2002Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: AstenJohnson, Inc.Inventors: Roy Van Essen, Mark Landry, Richard Pitt

Patent number: 6702925Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring a vibrational force to the wire of a papermaking machine in order to re-align the fibers of the web forming on the wire or to clean press section felts. In one preferred embodiment, the apparatus is a vibrational device including a vibrational device frame, at least one vibration-inducing mechanism coupled to the vibrational device frame, and a vibrational head coupled to the vibration-inducing mechanism for vibrating the wire.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2001Date of Patent: March 9, 2004Assignee: Vibre-Tech LLCInventors: Michael J Bricco, Dale J. Publication number: 20040011493Abstract: Hardened wear-resistant members are secured to an underlying body member in a manner to accommodate differing coefficients of thermal expansion. In one form a connector comprising shear compliant material is secured at one of its faces to the body member and a hardened wear-resistant member is secured to the opposite face of the connector. In another embodiment, the body member has adjacent portions resiliently connected to each other and the engaging member is secured at spaced locations to the two resiliently joined portions such that different thermal expansion of the two parts will be accommodated.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2002Publication date: January 22, 2004Applicant: CoorsTek, Inc.Inventors: Reginald R. Maas, Thomas C. Maslen, Dean A. Rulis, Thomas D. Church

Patent number: 5681430Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention is a papermaking machine with a forming fabric in a looped configuration. The forming fabric carries paper stock through the papermaking process. The forming fabric passes over a liquid-filled cavity which is bounded on its lower surface by a flexible non-permeable membrane. A roll with regular protrusions underneath the membrane is rotated to vertically excite the membrane, the liquid-filled cavity, and, subsequently, the paper stock in order to disperse the paper stock into a random orientation.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1995Date of Patent: October 28, 1997Assignees: Thermo Fibertek Inc., Smurfit Carton Y Papel of MexicoInventors: John Neun, Luis Fernando Cabrera y Lopez Caram

Patent number: 5306394Abstract: A turbulence roll for a web former. The roll generates high frequency small-scale vibration in the stock on the forming fabric whereby fluidization of the partially formed fiber mat and dispersion of fiber flocs in the stock is brought about. The turbulence roll is formed of a shaft on which a plurality of discs (32) is disposed a distance apart from each other and a plurality of lengthwise extending rods (34) is attached to the rims of the discs and spaced apart from each other.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1993Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Assignee: A. Patent number: 4999086Abstract: In a Fourdrinier paper making machine a dispersion roll mounted between the headbox and the suction and dewatering means, underneath in contact with the Fourdrinier travelling fabric and extending laterally across the width of the fabric, and adapted to rotate at about the same speed as that of the fabric; the roll having a fluted surface of alternating lands and grooves, and a plurality of spaced, parallel, lateral slots across each said land to communicate each groove with the next adjacent groove. The function of the roll is to vibrate the travelling fabric and cause better dispersion of the paper fibers.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1990Date of Patent: March 12, 1991Inventor: Edmund N. Marx, Jr.

Patent number: 4306934Abstract: The wet end of a fourdrinier paper machine includes a transversely disposed roll beneath the wire. The roll is shaped and mounted for rotation at a speed which is different from the speed of the wire to create pulses of negative pressure beneath the wire for drawing liquid from the web of fibers formed thereon. Also disclosed is a fin apparatus transversely disposed beneath the wire to create a wave of positive pressure thereunder to urge the formed web off of the wire.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1980Date of Patent: December 22, 1981Inventor: Erkki O.
