Movable Along Axis During Feeding Patents (Class 164/301)
  • Patent number: 8960263
Abstract: A method and apparatus for centrifugal casting, in which transfer functions are developed relating the fluidity of molten metal, for example iron of varying composition, to casting machine movement for a particular mold in order to cast objects, for example pipe, having desired and uniform characteristics, including wall thickness. Fluidity is calculated for each pour of molten metal based on the measured pour temperature and measured liquidus arrest temperature. A drive system controlled by a programmable logic controller moves the casting machine in accordance with the output of the transfer functions based on the calculated fluidity.

  • Patent number: 5826322
Abstract: For the production of particles from castings (10) of metals from the group of the lanthanides, aluminum, boron, chromium, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, nickel, niobium, cobalt, titanium, vanadium, zirconium, and their alloys, which have solidified in an oriented manner, especially for the production of materials from the group of magnetic materials, hydrogen storage elements (hydride storage elements), and battery electrodes, a melt of the metal is applied in a nonreactive atmosphere to the inside of an at least essentially cylindrical cooling surface (9) according to the principle of centrifugal casting. The cylinder rotates at high speed around a rotational axis, and the melt is cooled proceeding from the outside toward the inside with an essentially radial direction of solidification. The hollow casting (10) is then reduced to particles.

  • Patent number: 4632172
Abstract: In the centrifugal casting of iron pipes, molten metal from a tilt ladle 13 is supplied to an inclined pour trough or channel 14 whose outlet nose 16 is relatively axially movable within a rotating mold 3. To compensate for the reduction in the hydrostatic thrust of the molten metal in the pour channel when the metal supply is terminated near the end of the casting operation, the inclination of the channel 14 is gradually increased to thereby maintain a constant flow rate at the nose 16. Further, to compensate for the reduction of the height of fall due to the tilting of the pour channel and the attendant lowering of the downwardly sloping nose, the point of articulation 22 of the channel 14 within the mold is also raised in synchronism with the increased tilting of the channel.

  • Patent number: 4316495
Abstract: In a centrifugal casting apparatus, the rate of flow of molten iron poured into the mold is controlled by varying the inclination of the feed channel. In particular, at the end of the casting operation, the supply of liquid to the feed channel is cut off and the upstream end of the feed channel is progressively raised. This can be controlled automatically by a cast iron level detector adjacent the pouring spout. In this manner, localized thickness defects in a series of pipes can be corrected. Furthermore, pipes of constant thickness throughout their length can be provided without the need to vary the translational speed of the feed channel or vary the rate of pivoting of the ladle of molten liquid.

  • Patent number: 4205714
Abstract: This apparatus having two pouring channels comprises a support which is movable in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the mould in synchronism with the carriage which carries the two pouring channels and to the same extent of travel as the carriage so as to support the free end of the two channels when the centrifugal casting machine and the carriage are moved away from each other. The support is rigid with the centrifugal casting machine as concerns movement in translation in a direction parallel to said axis and is provided with transverse shifting means synchronized with the means for shifting the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4194554
Abstract: This process for manufacturing spheroidal graphite cast iron pipes by centrifugal casting has the feature that the rate of the cooling of the liquid iron just centrifugally cast in a tubular layer is increased from a zone of the layer spaced away from the mould to the free inner surface of this tubular layer while the cooling of the liquid iron in the vicinity of the surface of the mould is slowed down.

  • Patent number: 4116260
Abstract: The installation comprises two centrifugal casting moulds which are roughly parallel to each other and are movable by rotation of a common support between a mould preparing station, a pouring station and a pipe extracting station, which stations are disposed in such maner that one of the moulds is in the axial extension of the pouring station when the other mould is in the axial extension of the extracting station and vice-versa. The two moulds are carried by rollers mounted on the common support and the latter comprises a horizontal platform which is rotatable about a central vertical axis relative to which the two moulds are symmetrically arranged.

Abstract: An applicator nozzle for applying a coating solution onto the molding surface of a metal mold for use in centrifugal casting. The applicator nozzle mounted on an applicator lance is provided, at its one end facing the molding surface, with a plurality of small nozzle openings which are arranged at a predetermined pitch to each other in the direction of movement of the lance into the metal mold, through which nozzle openings, a solution of coating material is emitted in solid rod-like form in such an amount as to be sufficient to complete mold coating in one way of the nozzle into the metal mold, thus producing mold coating free from an undesirable spiral pattern.

  • Patent number: 4095643
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for feeding an inoculating or nucleating agent or particle to a trough of a pipe casting apparatus or beneath the surface of molten metal within a ladle. In particular, the agents are introduced by a hopper into a sealed chamber by selectively actuatable valves. A gas compatible with the agent to be used in the casting process, is introduced into the sealed chamber, whereby a relatively low pressure is established therein. An agent feeder, such as a vibratory feeder, is provided for directing a measured charge of the agent into a funnel leading to an outlet conduit. The pressure established within the chamber forces the agent through the conduit which is in turn connected to a delivery tube by which the agent is used to coat the mold surface directly or is fed into a stream of metal in a centrifugal tube casting apparatus. An outlet valve in the outlet tube is provided for selectively permitting the passage of the agent and gas mixture to the casting apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4036279
Abstract: A pouring chute is positioned with its discharge end disposed within an elongated hollow casting mold which is rotatably supported on a plurality of rollers. A molten metal is poured from a ladle into a receiving end of the pouring chute while the casting mold is rotating. A treating agent in wire form is fed by a wire feed mechanism along a guide member positioned adjacent the pouring chute and into the stream of molten metal flowing through the pouring chute adjacent the discharge end thereof for meltably intermixing with the molten metal. The wire feed mechanism and hence the feed rate of the wire is controlled in direct proportion to the flow rate of the molten metal through the pouring chute.
