  • Patent number: 4169501
Abstract: An airflow regulating apparatus for a radiator having a suction fan driven by an engine comprising a radiator core defining passages for the liquid coolant from the engine, a radiator grille mounted on a vehicle frame on the upstream side of said radiator core, and a plurality of plates disposed longitudinally and laterally parallel to the airflow between said radiator core and said radiator grille, said plurality of plates thus forming lattices therebetween in such a manner that the density of the lattices is in proportion to the speed of air inflow thereto.

  • Patent number: 4120271
Abstract: Ventilating and cooling arrangement for an engine compartment of a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine of the type having a radiator for recooling the engine coolant by means of ambient air. A ring radiator is provided which is housed in an air conducting housing which is separate from the engine compartment. The air conducting housing is configured to form two radiator exhaust air chambers at respective different peripheral circumferential positions along the radiator. A first of the exhaust air chambers communicates a portion of the exhaust air from the radiator directly to the engine compartment as engine compartment cooling and ventilation air. The other of the exhaust air chambers communicates the remaining portion of the exhaust air directly from the radiator to the surrounding atmosphere in bypassing relationship to the engine compartment.

  • Patent number: 4116269
Abstract: For reduction of high intensity sound produced through resonance by a radiator core when the rate of airflow therethrough, supplied by an engine-driven fan, exceeds a critical degree, a plurality of baffle plates are installed on the downstream or upstream side of the radiator core. The baffle plates are spaced from each other in a direction at right angles with the direction of the airflow through the radiator core, in such a manner as to inhibit the resonance of the radiator core when the rate of the airflow exceeds the critical degree.

  • Patent number: 4093021
Abstract: In the disclosed aircraft instrument and panel cooling apparatus, each instrument is cooled uniformly and efficiently by air flowing through a plurality of small orifices which surround the large apertures in which the instruments are mounted. The orifices are preferably closely spaced around the instrument apertures with a distance between orifices of the order of two to four orifice diameters and located within a range of up to six orifice diameters from the instrument case so as to provide a plurality of cooling streams of air which tend to coalesce to provide a uniform and tailored sheet of air for maximum cooling efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4031953
Abstract: A heat exchanger system and ducting arrangement therefor includes a pair of heat exchanger units defining an elongated space between them, and individually having a first fluid flow path and a second fluid flow path therethrough for transferring heat from a relatively hot fluid to a relatively cool fluid, a bifurcated inlet channel for delivering the hot fluid to the heat exchanger units, a pair of exhaust conduits for conducting the hot fluid away from the heat exchanger units after heat is extracted therefrom during its travel through the first fluid flow paths, an elongated duct for delivering the cool fluid to the elongated space and from there oppositely outwardly to the heat exchanger units, and a pair of outlet manifolds for conducting the relatively cool fluid away from the heat exchanger units after it is beneficially heated during its travel through the second fluid flow paths.

  • Patent number: 3986337
Abstract: This invention pertains to an improved thermal slab assembly. A metal slab defines an exterior surface of the assembly and is supported on a hollow chassis. A plurality of thermoelectric devices are conductively engaged with the underside of the slab and are disposed in a regular array relative to each other, whereby each device is assigned a respective one of a corresponding plurality of equal area portions of the slab. Control means are coupled between the slab and the thermoelectric devices for sensing the temperature of the slab and for regulating operation of the devices to establish and maintain a predetermined temperature of the slab. A vertically and parallelly finned heat sink is conductively coupled to each thermoelectric device.
