  • Patent number: 9695639
Abstract: An assembly for use to cement an uncased wellbore and create a sidetrack of a wellbore with a single trip into the wellbore. The assembly includes a mill selectively connected to a whipstock. A snorkel tube is positioned within a bore of the mill and within a bore of the whipstock. The assembly is connected to drill string and positioned within an openhole portion of the wellbore. After the assembly has been anchored, cement may be pumped down the drill string and through the snorkel tube. The mill may be removed from the whipstock by shearing a shearable device connecting the mill to the whipstock. The mill is used engage a diverting surface on the whipstock and create a sidetrack. The mill may also mill a portion of the snorkel tube or the snorkel tube may be removed from wellbore up the drill string prior to milling the sidetrack.

  • Patent number: 9249641
Abstract: The articulated wireline hole finder is a modular device which attaches to the bottom of a wireline logging tool-string to aid conveyance down irregular shaped and/or deviated boreholes which possess features such as ledges, washouts, and contractions, that might otherwise terminate full descent of the tool-string to the bottom of the borehole and thereby compromise the wireline data acquisition objectives. Elements of the articulated wireline hole finder may include a low friction roller nose assembly and spacer sub, an articulated spring joint, that transfers tool-string weight and directs lateral movement of the roller nose towards hole center, and a pair of five arm centralizers that possess a wide dynamic range.

  • Patent number: 9140098
Abstract: A depressurization tool is described for use downhole in depressurizing an isolated zone. A decompression chamber containing a compressible fluid volume is described. The opening of the chamber is sealed with a closure that is configured to open upon application of a pressure differential across the opening. When used downhole within an isolated and nonpermeable wellbore zone, excessive ambient pressure will cause the closure to open and allow the chamber to fill with fluid at increased pressure, depressurizing the wellbore zone. The tool is useful in wellbore completion systems that include sliding sleeves.

Openings are then created in the tubular such that there are no corners or other points that stress cracks may originate. Once the openings are created the remaining material between adjacent openings forms ribs. The openings created in the tubular are generally aligned with the long axis of the tubular. The material at the upper and lower end of the flat plate where openings were not created serve as circumferential collars. • Patent number: 8714269
Abstract: Hydraulically actuated standoffs for downhole tools are described. An example apparatus includes a downhole tool having a body defining an outer surface and a plurality of standoffs distributed about the outer surface. The example apparatus also includes a hydraulic circuit operatively coupled to the standoffs. The hydraulic circuit includes a plurality of hydraulically actuated pistons, each of which is operatively coupled to a respective one of the standoffs to extend and retract the respective standoff. The pistons are hydraulically coupled and sized to extend or retract the respective standoffs at substantially the same rate in response to a hydraulic control signal.

Abstract: A device is associated with a downhole tool to control the weight that can be set down on the tool while the tool is operating. A shroud is secured to the string that supports the tool with interior modular biasing components that for run in extend the tool past the shroud. Upon encountering a support for the tool, further set down weight compresses the biasing components for a predetermined stroke length delineated by the shroud landing on a support. If the tool is a mill, its operation takes place under the biasing force as the mill advances into the piece being cut or milled under a predetermined pressure. When the mill reaches full extension form the shroud the process can be repeated until the milling is complete. The shroud also centralizes the mill during milling.

Abstract: The present invention is a tubing centralizer for use within casing within a wellbore. The tubing centralizer has a tubing centralizer cage comprising a top ring, a middle ring, and a bottom ring and a plurality of springs, where each spring connects the top ring to the middle ring and the middle ring to the bottom ring and where each spring has a double arcuate shape such that the springs arc radially outward between the top ring and the middle ring and again between the middle ring and the bottom ring. The springs may be sized such that they exert outward pressure against the inside wall of the casing such that the tubing centralizer resists movement along the casing. The tubing centralizer may further comprise a tubing centralizer mandrel, where the tubing centralizer mandrel is part of the tubing string and extends through the tubing centralizer cage.

Abstract: For a free falling well tool sub having one or more pipe bore centering cages, a collapsible material cone secured inside of the centering cage half length with the cone base opening in the downhole direction restricts the rate of pipe bore fluid flow past the cone and thereby restricts the descent rate of the tool. The rate of descent may be regulated with fluid flow by-pass apertures in the sub. A collapsible material cone in a bore centering cage having a base opening in the up-hole direction may be used as piston to drive the tool sub along horizontal segments of a deviated well bore. Both cones may be used separately or together.
