An actuating tool bore pressure, which is less that the unlocking pressure, actuates a valve piston via the open second port.

    Abstract: A dampered drop plug drops down a bore of a drill string. The dampered drop plug includes a retainer configured to land on an upward facing shoulder of a tubular sleeve, and a plug releasably coupled to the retainer. The plug couples to the retainer while at a first pressure in the bore and decouples from the retainer at a second pressure in the bore. The dampered drop plug lands on the upward facing shoulder of a tubular sleeve and actuates a first function. The plug then releases from the retainer, and passes fluid through the retainer at a controlled flowrate. The plug then lands on a ball seat and actuates a second function.

    Abstract: A depressurization tool is described for use downhole in depressurizing an isolated zone. A decompression chamber containing a compressible fluid volume is described. The opening of the chamber is sealed with a closure that is configured to open upon application of a pressure differential across the opening. When used downhole within an isolated and nonpermeable wellbore zone, excessive ambient pressure will cause the closure to open and allow the chamber to fill with fluid at increased pressure, depressurizing the wellbore zone. The tool is useful in wellbore completion systems that include sliding sleeves.

    Abstract: A circulation sub is provided that has a ball seat and a circulation port that is closed when a ball is landed on the seat. An axial passage directs the pressure surge created with the landing of the ball on the seat to the port with the actuation piston for the tool. The surge in pressure operates the actuation piston to set the tool, which is preferably a packer. Raising the circulation rate through a constriction in a circulation sub breaks a shear device and allows the restriction to shift to cover a circulation port. The pressure surge that ensues continues through the restriction to the actuating piston for the tool to set the tool.

    Abstract: A check valve for a drill string fluid delivery system. The fluid delivery system allows for drilling mud to travel from a source up the drill string, through the drill string, through a downhole tool assembly, to a port located at a surface of a boring tool. The check valve rests in a socket within the downhole tool assembly, with a forward face extending into a gallery within the bit. When the ambient pressure within the fluid delivery system exceeds the ambient pressure in the borehole, mud flows through the system to the ports and into the borehole. When the ambient pressure within the borehole exceeds the ambient pressure in the fluid delivery system, the pressure is applied to the forward face, causing the check valve to close, preventing contaminants from the borehole from entering the fluid delivery system.

    Abstract: A valve seal assembly that provides for external pressure to be introduced to an energized seal of a valve, and compress the seal against a gate with enough force to block any paths where sand and chemicals would otherwise travel into valve body cavity or void. The external pressure introduced through pressure fitting makes the parts move like piston forcing the parts to compress together eliminating the machined tolerances or gaps required for the gate to be opened or closed. The compression can be provided by hydraulic pressure devices through injection ports.
