Abstract: A spool for deploying and retrieving multiple separate strings of continuous tubing, such as over the side of or through the moon pool of a boat, rig or other vessel, without the need of an injector head. The spool has at least one rotating swivel to permit pumping of fluid(s) down, or back up, tubing strings while the spool is rotating or stationary. A level-wind assembly having at least one sheave directs the continuous tubing overboard, but also level-winds the tubing onto the spool in an orderly fashion through lateral movement of the sheave. The system is powered by a hydraulic power unit with a remote control console.

  • Patent number: 8726998
Abstract: A BOP heating method includes operating a coiled tubing unit (CTU) using hydraulic fluid. The fluid is supplied from the CTU to an exchange tube and returned from the exchange tube to the CTU. The method includes transmitting heat from the fluid to an inner plate. Heat is transmitted from the inner plate to a BOP on which the inner plate is temporarily mounted. A BOP heating system includes a CTU configured to use hydraulic fluid, a supply tube configured to supply fluid from the CTU to an exchange tube, and a return tube configured to return fluid from the exchange tube to the CTU. A BOP heat exchange unit includes an outer plate and an inner plate, an exchange tube between the outer plate and the inner plate, and a heat spreading material between the exchange tube and the inner plate. The exchange unit lacks any electrical component.

  • Publication number: 20140116724
Abstract: A system and methodology facilitates an operation utilizing coiled tubing. The technique comprises coupling a hydraulic assist device to coiled tubing. A fluid is flowed into an enclosure such as a wellbore and along the coiled tubing. The fluid is flowed against the hydraulic assist device, and the action of this fluid against the hydraulic assist device creates a pulling force on the coiled tubing. The pulling force facilitates movement of the coiled tubing along the wellbore or other enclosure to provide the coiled tubing with greater reach for a variety of intervention operations or other types of operations.

Abstract: A drum unit for an intervention string for a well includes a drum with a drum axis and with a radius, arranged in a structural frame and rotatable by a motor and a tension compensator. The tension compensator includes a guide arch displaceable in a direction generally along the intervention string, orthogonal to the drum axis, using a first force device connected to the structural frame for keeping the intervention string in tension. At least a first end of the guide arch is laterally displaceable in a direction generally orthogonal to the intervention string, parallel with the drum axis. The intervention string runs between the guide arch to or from the first end to the drum. The intervention string runs via a second, opposite end of the guide arch via a second, fixed guide at the structural frame, directly or indirectly to or from the well.
