The line reel assembly and deployments methods are suitable for use under well pressure. The line may comprise fiber optics. Subsequent to deployment of coiled tubing with a line dispose therein, the coiled tubing may be withdrawn, leaving the line in the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 7111689
Abstract: An apparatus for transporting an injector assembly, such as an injector and a BOP, for coiled tubing to a wellhead may have a platform, such as a trailer, having a shaft attached thereto by at least one bracket. Pivotally on the bracket may be a boom, which may have telescopic sections, and at least one member, which may have a substantially boomerang shape. The member may be attachable to the bracket by an extendable boom fold actuator, and may be attachable to the boom via an extendable boom operating actuator. By selectively extending and contracting the boom fold actuators and the boom operating actuators, the boom may be selectively positioned between a transport mode, a vertical mode, and an operating mode. In this way, one assembly may be used to transport the coiled tubing and the injector assembly for connection to the wellhead, thus minimizing rig-up or set up time.

Abstract: Apparatus for injecting coiled tubing into a bore comprises a rotatable housing (28, 29) having an axis along which coiled tubing is to be translated. A set of rolling elements (12, 14) is rotatably mounted in the housing (28, 29), each rolling element (24) having a skewed axis of rotation with respect to the housing axis and being arranged for rolling contact with an outside diameter of the coiled tubing. The arrangement is such that rotation of the housing (28, 29) relative to the tubing causes the tubing to be moved axially through the rotating housing.

  • Patent number: 7036578
Abstract: A coiled tubing injector assembly includes a coiled tubing injector and a tubing guide. The tubing guide has an automatic clamping mechanism that includes a pair of clamping slips. The clamping slip will automatically move from an open position in which coiled tubing can pass through the clamping sips, to a closed position in which the clamping slips positively clamp the coiled tubing to the tubing guide. The clamping mechanism moves from the open to the closed position when the tubing guide is lifted from an installation platform in which the coiled tubing is positioned in the tubing guide so that it can be positioned on top of the coiled tubing injector. The clamping mechanism will automatically clamp the coiled tubing to the tubing guide when the tubing guide is removed from the coiled tubing injector.
