Patent number: 8006752Abstract: A guide tube for continuous rod has a sections pivotably connected together by at least one translatable pivot. The tube connects to a rig at a fixed pivot and is initially folded on the rig for transport. To unfold and raise the tube for operation, a rig operator pivots a support rod pivotably connected to the tube away from the rig using a rope. This pivoting support rod moves the attachment point of a winchline extending from the rig to the rod beyond the tube's fixed pivot. Also, the pivoting rod tensions a sling having a fixed length that extends from the rod to the tube's translatable pivot. In this way, the winchline can be tensioned without the need for rig operators to perform a substantial amount of manual labor as conventionally done. Once the outer sections of the guide tube are lowered to the ground, the entire guide tube can be unfolded and raised with the tensioned winchline.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2009Date of Patent: August 30, 2011Assignee: Weatherford/Lamb, Inc.Inventor: Hermann Basler

The tool is configured to straighten coiled tubing that has undergone plastifying deformation, for example, during winding about a coiled tubing reel. The tool is of enhanced mobility and may be employed to provide a straightened portion of coiled tubing without resorting to intermittent reverse kinking or corrugating of the coiled tubing. Rather, the substantially continuous character of the straightened portion of coiled tubing is well suited for stably and reliably accommodating a downhole tool for use within a well during hydrocarbon recovery applications.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2009Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventor: L. Publication number: 20110174501Abstract: A system and methodology for controlled entry of a tubing string, and cable adjacent thereto, into a wellbore. A stationary housing is fit to a wellhead and has a bore in communication with the wellbore. The cable can be laterally displaced from the bore into a cable access formed into the housing's side wall for fitting a sealing assembly to the bore and engages a sealing surface therein. The sealing assembly seals tubulars passing therethrough. The cable access interrupts the sealing surface. A cable bypass sub is fit to the cable access and permits the cable to extend sealingly from above the sealing surface to the wellbore wherein the cable bypasses the sealing assembly and sealing surface. A seal reconstitutes the interrupted portion of the sealing surface at the cable access.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2010Publication date: July 21, 2011Applicant: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: John David Struthers, George James Michaud, Lawrence Gerald Cyr, Salem Ahmed Lotfi Elsayed

Publication number: 20110162847Abstract: Subterranean oilfield high-temperature devices configured or designed to operate at elevated temperatures downhole in a well traversing a formation. A tool conveyance is configured for deployment in the well with a downhole cartridge comprising high-temperature sensitive components. A downhole cooling system includes a cooling fluid conduit having a first end configured for fluid connection with a source of cooling fluid and a second end configured for discharging cooling fluid in the well at least an upper portion of a subterranean high-temperature zone such that cooling fluid circulates in the high-temperature zone.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 5, 2010Publication date: July 7, 2011Applicant: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventor: ALEJANDRO MARTINEZ

Publication number: 20110139449Abstract: A coiled tubing deployed fluid sampler (50) for collecting a single phase fluid sample from a well. The fluid sampler (50) is actuated to establish fluid communication between an interior (56) and an exterior of the fluid sampler (50) such that a fluid sample is obtained from the well in a chamber (92) of the fluid sampler (50). The fluid pressure in the coiled tubing string is then increased, which pressurizes the fluid sample in the chamber (92). Thereafter, the coiled tubing and the fluid sampler (50) are retrieved to the surface with the pressurized fluid sample remaining above its saturation pressure during collection and retrieval to the surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2011Publication date: June 16, 2011Applicant: HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES, INC.Inventors: Cyrus A.
