Abstract: This invention is an installation of a protective apparatus to prevent safety problems of machine tools caused in machining work-load process. The protective apparatus is comprised of a circuit used to slowly rotate the loaded machine tool by stepping it at a low speed and low power one full turn to insure clear workload path, and before full power is applied. This protective system will activate the full power only if a full rotation is achieved without any obstacles caused by chuck wrench or work-load interference with machine parts. The machine will subsequently arm itself to go into full power rotation if the operator activates the machine within a short period of time after the safety rotation is completed. The safety cycle is performed each time the operator activates the machine tool. This protective apparatus keeps the machine tool in low-speed and low-power unless the safety cycle has been performed each time the machine tool is turned on.

The auto-shift mechanism includes a worm gear that rotates with the motor, and a disc coupled to the worm gear that moves laterally as the worm gear rotates. Axial movement of the disc actuates a reversing lever of a ratchet mechanism by either pulling or pushing the reversing lever. A lost-motion mechanism can absorb an initial amount of torque so that the auto-shift mechanism can run its course prior to applying the torque to a fastener.

Abstract: A portable linear fastener driving tool is provided that drive staples, nails, or other linearly driven fasteners. The tool uses a gas spring principle, in which a cylinder filled with compressed gas is used to quickly force a piston through a driving stroke movement, while a driver also drives a fastener into a workpiece. The piston/driver is then moved back to its starting position by use of a rotary-to-linear lifter, and the piston again compresses the gas above the piston, thereby preparing the tool for another driving stroke. The driver has protrusions along its edges that contact the lifter, which lifts the driver during a return stroke. A pivotable latch is controlled to move into either an interfering position or a non-interfering position with respect to the driver protrusions, and acts as a safety device, by preventing the driver from making a full driving stroke at an improper time.

A pneumatic hammer mechanism includes an exciter, driven back and forth by a motor about a stroke between a dead point distant from the tool and a dead point near the tool, a hammer moved back and forth on the operating axis between a reversal point distant from the tool and a point of impact, and a pneumatic chamber sealed by the exciter and the hammer, which couples the movement of the hammer to the movement of the exciter. A damping device increases the pressure in the pneumatic chamber when the exciter during its motion in the direction to the dead point distant from the tool has approached to less than half the stroke to the dead point distant from the tool.

Abstract: A power tool includes a housing, an output member that rotates about a longitudinal axis, and a motor drivably connected to the output member. A rotational motion sensor is arranged in the housing and operable to detect a user input that includes a rotational motion of the housing in a desired rotational direction about the longitudinal axis of the output member. A controller is configured to receive a first input indicative of a user-desired rotational motion of the output member, and a second input, from the rotational motion sensor, indicative of an actual rotational motion of the power tool. The controller determines a user-desired rotational direction of the output member about the axis from the first input, determines an actual rotational direction of the housing about the axis from the second input, and causes the motor to drive the output member to simulate ratcheting movement in the user-desired rotational direction.
