Abstract: A pedal assembly including a pedal support and a pedal member rotatably coupled to the pedal support to allow pivotal movement of the pedal member about a pivot axis. The pedal assembly further includes a friction member having a bearing surface, and a clamp member engaged with the pedal member and having an engagement surface abutting the bearing surface of the friction member to define at least two separate and distinct surface contact regions. The pedal assembly also includes a biasing member arranged to bias the clamp member to provide frictional engagement along the separate and distinct surface contact regions to resist pivotal movement of the pedal member. In one embodiment, the clamp member is engaged with the pedal member by a sliding pivot configured to allow the clamp member to be pivotally and slidably displaced relative to the pedal member during pivotal movement of the pedal member.

  • Patent number: 6820710
Abstract: A motorcycle having a speed control rotary throttle grip and a pivoted brake lever both mounted on a steering handlebar, is provided with a split clamp ring surrounding the throttle grip and movable to releasably clamp the throttle grip against rotation from a preset position of cruising speed. A catch pin supported by one section of the split clamp ring is movable with the other section of the clamp ring to releasably secure the sections together. The catch pin is movable either manually by physical force or automatically by movement of the brake lever during braking of the motorcycle speed. Manual force may be applied to move a clamp lever, while automatic operation is achieved by movement of the brake lever into engagement with the clamp lever.

  • Patent number: 6808040
Abstract: A vehicle-pedal-backward-displacement preventing device for preventing a depressable portion of an operating pedal from being displaced toward an operator's seat of the vehicle in the event of displacement of a dash panel of the vehicle toward the operator's seat. The device includes a connecting member which is disposed between a pedal bracket and a reinforcement member of the vehicle and connects the pedal bracket with the reinforcement member, and which is deformable in the event of displacement of the dash panel toward the operator's seat. The connecting member includes a contactable portion which is to be brought into contact with the operating pedal upon deformation of the connecting member, for thereby causing the operating pedal to be pivoted in such a direction that causes the depressable portion of the operating pedal to be displaced in the forward direction of the vehicle.

Abstract: A motorized vehicle has wheels mounted on a vehicle body for undergoing rotation to cause the motorized vehicle to undergo travelling, electric motors for selectively undergoing forward and reverse rotation to rotationally drive respective ones of the wheels, brakes for applying brake forces to respective ones of the wheels, handlebars extending from the vehicle body, and turn control levers mounted on the handlebars to undergo angular movement within a range of preselected angular positions. The turn control levers are connected to respective ones of the brakes and respective ones of the electric motors so that the electric motors undergo rotation simultaneously in opposite directions in accordance with the preselected angular positions of the turn control levers to turn the motorized vehicle while the motorized does not undergo travelling.

  • Patent number: 6799488
Abstract: A control housing body (10) containing a cavity (12) of sufficient size to allow entry and movement by a human thumb, and capable of housing a number of controls (14, 16). Body (10) is inserted under a covering grip (33) that is connected in line with a surface grip (32) of a rotating steering device (31). Dial control (14) is provided to set a scalar variable such as vehicular speed at a constant number. A thumb rest (13) and a control guard (17) inhibit the thumb from slipping downwards and unintentionally activating a contracting control (16) that can be actuated by the contracting movement of a human thumb. A sliding cover (40) can be alternately positioned over cavity (12) or inside retraction slot (46). A pivoting pin (22) and pivoting rotator (24) allow the control housing body to rotate around the axis between two pivot holes (26) and (28).
