  • Publication number: 20090279818
Abstract: A system and method are provided for sealing a fluid dynamic bearing motor. A first and a second folded fluid channel are shaped for maximizing bearing axial span and establishing angular stiffness, to resist gyroscopic rocking of the facing bearing surfaces. The first folded fluid channel is limited to occupying at least a portion of the same axial space as the bearing. A first and a second fluid sealing system are connected to opposite axial ends of the bearing. The first fluid sealing system forms an active pumping seal to pump fluid during motor rotation. In an aspect, a top cover attached shaft, and a single thrust surface are employed, allowing for a rigid motor structure and power reduction in applications including high rotational speed disc drives. Also, by employing a rigid shaft design, significantly lower amplitude radial vibration responses are exhibited at higher frequencies than prior art motor designs.

  • Patent number: 6241046
Abstract: A device for introducing lubricant to a shaft at a portion held by bushings located at a bearing portion of a pulley is disclosed. The shaft is provided with a main fluid passage having a relatively large diameter. A packing member having a rod-shaped configuration is inserted through this main fluid passage. The dimensional difference between an open area of the main fluid passage and a sectional area of the packing member creates in the fluid passage a lubricant feeding hole which is smaller than the open area of the main fluid passage. A tributary fluid passage extending from this main fluid passage to a diametrical outside portion of the main fluid passage is provided with slits on an outer circumferential surface of the shaft such that the slits intersect the lubricant feeding hole at right angles. Wire is then inserted through each slit. The slits are then closed with a packing except for the portion containing wire.

  • Patent number: 6206140
Abstract: A lubrication system for transmissions is provided wherein a lubrication flow path is provided from an oil pump located within a transmission casing to front countershaft bearings. A second flow path provides oil directly to a predetermined number of gear sets located along a main shaft. In one embodiment, oil flows through a first tube from the oil pump to an annular ring located in a groove between a front wall of the transmission main case and a rear face of a clutch housing. The ring is provided with a plurality of apertures along its outer circumference spaced to allow oil to flow directly to front bearings of any counter shaft placed adjacent the main shaft. A closed ended tube connects to the annular ring and extends perpendicularly from the annular ring through the front wall of the transmission main case.

  • Patent number: 5713431
Abstract: A system for lubricating the lower roller bearings of a textile machine drafting equipment includes a base body with punched-out shapes movably mounted on the base body by way of adjusting devices. Bores are defined in the punched-out shapes for receipt of the lower roller bearings. An encapsulated lubrication system supplies lubricant to the bearings and includes a channel defined through the punched-out shape with an outlet into the bore and an inlet in communication with the channel defined through the base body which is in further communication with a source of lubricant at one end thereof. An excess lubricant removal channel is defined in the punched-out shape and has an opening in communication with the bore and an outlet on a side of the punched-out shape away from the operating area or space of the lower roller.

  • Patent number: 5632355
Abstract: A grease lubricating system includes a plurality of injectors for distributing grease to a plurality of lubrication points, an injector reset valve for resetting the injectors and a pump for supplying grease. The injector reset valve is located between the pump and the plurality of injectors and includes a piston and a large heavy duty spring which urges the piston into sealing engagement with an inlet port of the injector reset valve during a reset position of the valve. During a pressurizing portion of a pump cycle, grease entering the injector reset valve moves the piston out of sealing engagement with the inlet port of the injector reset valve enabling grease to flow from the inlet port through an internal chamber of the injector reset valve and out of a outlet port to input ports of the injectors through an injector distribution junction. Each injector then delivers grease to its respective lubrication point.

  • Patent number: 5480004
Abstract: In a series progressive divider valve having a number of identical valve units disposed adjacent to each other, each formed by a base member and a spool member having a movable spool therein, a manifold in the form of a plate which can be inserted between the base member and the spool member of a valve unit selectively permits the porting between that valve unit and an adjacent valve unit to be modified so as to direct the output of lubricant to a different location from the output location which would occur in the absence of the manifold. The output can be directed to an output port of the valve unit in which the manifold is inserted (singling) or can be directed to an adjacent valve unit (crossporting). A number of such plates can be stacked to provide further selectivity in directing the lubricant output.

  • Patent number: 5253733
Abstract: In order to appropriately distribute a lubricating oil of high viscosity to lubrication points through a simple construction in oil and air lubrication, in a preferred embodiment of the present invention, three distributors 8, 9 and 10 are provided between oil feed passages 7, the most downstream one of which is connected at the downstream end of the passage to a fourth branch passage 14. Quantities of the lubricating oil are passed through the holes A, B and C of the first distributor 8, those E and F of the second distributor 9 and that H of the third distributor 10. Other quantities of the oil, which are nearly equal to each other, are sent to three lubrication points through the other holes D, G and I of the distributors 8, 9 and 10 and a first, a second and a third branch passages 11, 12 and 13. The three lubrication points are a point at contact-type oil seals 5, and two points in a four-train conical roller bearing 3.

  • Patent number: 5007504
Abstract: A machine assembly has mist or migration lubrication distributed by an air stream from a supply site to remotely spaced bearings. An elongate clearance hole is drilled within a wall of the machine member, and cross-drilling is provided to interconnect the supply site and bearings with the clearance hole. A flexible conduit is closely-fitted to the cross-drilled holes, the conduit being bent through a smooth curve. A hardenable material is flowed into the clearance hole to cement the tubing in position, to thereby provide a smooth transition path for conveying air and lubricant from the supply site to the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4932500
Abstract: The lubrication insertions system of the present invention inserts lubricating oil into the critical areas of a bearing. The system comprises a delivery element for delivering lubricating oil to a predetermined point relative to the bearing. The bearing, which is rotating, causes the lubricating oil to be slung outward of the spin axis of the bearing. A cage element, having a lip that extends beyond the edge of the bearing, captures the lubricating oil and directs the lubricating oil into the bearing to the outer race of the bearing and to the rolling elements of the bearing, which track the oil to the inner race of the bearing.
