  • Patent number: 7617911
Abstract: Method and system for detecting and stopping uncontrolled movement of the car (1) in an elevator. In the method movement of the car is detected with the first movement detection means (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) when the brake (8) of the drive machinery (7) is in the braking status with the purpose of holding the car in its position without moving. A first control signal is formed if the car moves in the aforementioned situation. Movement of the car is stopped on the basis of the first control signal with a separate stopping appliance (9) with respect to the brake of the drive machinery. The operating condition of the first movement detection means are tested with the second movement detection means (10, 11, 12) during driving of the car in order to detect a fault situation. A second control signal is formed for the elevator control when a fault situation is detected, in which case the elevator control drives the car to the next stopping floor and prevents the subsequent run of the car.

  • Patent number: 7527127
Abstract: In the invention a method is presented for ensuring operating safety in an elevator system, an elevator system, and a safety device of an elevator system. The elevator system includes at least an elevator car, elevator ropes, an elevator motor, a traction sheave and at least two holding brakes, which holding brakes are arranged to prevent movement of the elevator car when the elevator is stopped. According to the invention the first holding brake is engaged at the end of an elevator run, and the other holding brakes are engaged with a delay. When one holding brake is engaged, the state of motion of the elevator and any slipping of the brake is monitored. If the brake is detected as slipping, a procedure for preventing a hazardous situation is performed.

  • Patent number: 7475756
Abstract: In relation with this mechanism for stopping an elevator car is, for the monitoring of the speed of the elevator car, an overspeed governor provided which works based on the swing lever principle, whereby the movement of the elevator car will be transferred by means of a governor rope to the overspeed governor. The governor rope extends itself over the entire shaft height and will be returned at the lower shaft end by means of a deflection sheave and stretched by means of counterweight as well as guided at the upper shaft end over a pulley of the overspeed governor. The ends of the governor rope are fastened on a release mechanics arranged on the elevator car and such release mechanics operates in an emergency a safety gear arranged on the elevator car. With the overspeed of the elevator car a rope brake is released upwards.

  • Patent number: 7097003
Abstract: A vertically sliding freight elevator landing door with a safety brake that deploys when a chain suspending the door breaks. The safety brake is adapted for use on both panels that slide up to open or that slide down to open. The brake, which is simple in construction and installation, comprises, principally, a caliber block fixed to the door and a roller cam assembled in the block. A spring biases the roller cam towards a wedge lock position while a cable normally holds the roller cam in an inactive position. The cable and, therefore, the roller cam are released when the associated door suspension chain breaks. The roller cam, operating between a tilted internal surface in the caliper block and a door guide rail quickly frictionally brakes the door on the guard rail.

  • Patent number: 6902369
Abstract: In an elevating mechanism 14 where an elevating mechanism 17 carried so as to rise and fall along a fixed surface 16 is moved up and down through a suspension member 18, a braking mechanism 18 is born by the elevating mechanism 17 so as to pivot vertically. A tensile spring 32 is provided on the braking mechanism 31, for pivotally urging it to the direction close to the fixed surface 16, while the suspension member 18 is connected to the braking mechanism 31, for pulling the braking mechanism 31 in the direction apart from the fixed surface 16 due to the weight of the elevating mechanism 17, in opposition to the tensile spring 32. When the suspension member 18 is cut off, then the braking mechanism 31 comes into contact with and digs into the fixed surface 16 by action of the tensile spring 32, so that the elevating mechanism 17 can be stopped from falling.

  • Patent number: 6820725
Abstract: A safety brake assembly is disclosed comprising a housing movable on a vertical support, the housing attached to a carpet support arm, a pulley rotatably mounted on a shaft of the housing, a link having an inner end pivotally connected to the shaft and an outer end connected to a first end of a pivot bracket on the housing, a second end of the pivot bracket connected to a wedge-shaped member adjacent the pulley, and tensioning means connected intermediate the ends of the pivot bracket. In the event of cable failure, the upward pressure previously exerted on the pulley is released, causing a downward movement of the pulley and link, the movement transferred by means of the pivot bracket to cause upward movement of the wedge-shaped member which is forced up between the pulley and the vertical support, the resultant friction arresting further downward movement of the housing and carpet support arm.
