  • Patent number: 8162787
Abstract: A new asymmetrically damped tensioner is provided utilizing a roller clutch engaged with a tensioner arm through a frictional contact. During normal operation, the roller clutch enables the tensioner arm to pivot in a first direction to take up belt slack with negligible frictional damping applied to the motion of the tensioner arm. When the tensioner arm pivots in a second direction, away from the belt, however, in a condition commonly known as wind-up, the roller clutch engages and creates a frictional linkage between the tensioner arm and a fixed surface. This frictional linkage provides asymmetric frictional damping to the tensioner to limit movement in the second direction and combat wind-up.

Abstract: An actuating unit for an electromechanically actuated disc brake for automotive vehicles which is composed of a drive unit or an electric motor, an actuating element forming one of two friction linings into engagement with a brake disc, and a reducing gear. A freewheel mechanism that interacts with the electric motor has the function of a parking brake. In order to ensure a high level of reliability in operation of the parking brake and to render it resistant to external influences, in particular, oscillations or vibrations, the present invention suggest that the freewheel mechanism be configured in such a way that its clamping effect is produced by a form-locking torque transmission and that, in its actuated state, it prevents a rotational movement of a bearing in which the rotor of the electric motor is mounted.

Abstract: A full type one-way clutch includes rollers arranged in a full type state between an outer ring having inclined cam surfaces on the inner peripheral surface thereof and a rotary shaft. A spring biases the rollers in such a direction as to engage the cam surfaces, and the spring is arranged in a groove formed in the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring. By keeping all the rollers in abutment with one another, it is possible to reliably and instantly transmit the biasing force of the spring to all the rollers without reducing the torque-transmitting ability while improving the responsiveness of the clutch.

Abstract: A split locking sprag is used as a locking element between an inner race portion and an outer race portion which are moved or driven relative to each other, and has a release linkage that allows the sprag halves to be moved relative to each other to change the combined dimensions of the sprag halves and allow their displacement out of engagement with the inner and outer races. The sprag is divided into two or more sections that pivot about a main pivot pin between locked and unlocked positions. A linkage and tripper mechanism allows the sprag sections to be unlocked in a controlled manner by applying a small external force to the tripper. Alternatively, the sprag can be configured in any manner that allows their combined dimensions to be changed when triggered to release a torque while under load.

Abstract: The invention concerns an overrunning clutch for receiving a shaft (10), said overrunning clutch comprising an outer ring having clamping surfaces, a cage (5) equipped with clamping rollers (6) and spring elements (8) for suspending the clamping rollers (6) being arranged in the outer ring. The clamping rollers (6) comprise a frustoconical bevel (9) on at least one end face, so that when the shaft (10) is not inserted, the enveloping circle diameter DHK of the conic frustum at its outer end is equal to or larger than the diameter DW of the shaft (10). This enables an automatic assembly of the entire overrunning clutch because the shaft (10) can be inserted without any problem into the cage (5).

The locking feature is an anti-rotation device that prevents rotation of the roller assembly or sleeve assembly on the support shaft. The locking feature permits axial location of the component or sleeve to a pre-determined position as desired. A pair of over-running clutches or one-way clutches is used to facilitate the feature. The clutches are assembled to a receiving bore in the component or sleeve so that they are able to lock on the support shaft in reverse directions, thereby preventing rotation of those parts on the support shaft.

Abstract: A fabricated gear is provided which is formed from a plurality of plates disposed in series one on top of another. Each of the plates include a plurality of teeth along an outer circumference thereof. An aperture extending through a center portion of each of the plates is provided. This aperture forms an inner circumference within each of the plates and is capable of receiving a shaft member therethrough. The plates are secured together to form the fabricated gear. This fabricated gear may be keyed onto a shaft member. Alternatively, an anti-backlash mechanism may be provided in the fabricated gear to achieve one direction rotation of a shaft member in a manner similar to a pawl and ratchet mechanism. This anti-backlash mechanism is formed by providing at least one indentation within an inner circumference of at least some of the plates which cooperates with a cylindrical member positioned within an opening formed by this indentation.
