Wall Detail Patents (Class 190/124)
  • Patent number: 5031734
Abstract: Some softsided cases (luggage cases with cloth panel bodies) include the frame structures to hold them erect and give them some structural rigidity. The ability of such frame members to withstand crushing forces without damage varies considerably. Also, the weight of such frame members can work against the inherent lightness of softsided luggage. Disclosed is a luggage case and a frame member for the luggage case which includes a panel. The panel comprises a pair of cloth laminae attached to one another at a peripheral seam structure. Between the laminae are positioned flexible elongated members preferably along the diagonals of the laminae if the laminae has a rectangular or trapezoid shape. These elongated members are engaged at the corners by holding means which have sockets to receive the elongated members, and specially shaped outer edges which engage a substantial portion of the peripheral seam at the corners. The elongated members cross one another in the middle of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4817769
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel covered zipper assembly for the top of a portfolio with two heavy duty magnetic catches, one at each end thereof and being secured between the portfolio panels at the top to hide the zipper from view. A combination lock cooperating with a hasp protrudes from one end to be inserted into a catch portion at the side of the portfolio whereby the pull tab of the zipper can be grasped to slide open the top of the portfolio. Lock means, preferably combination lock means, are provided at the hasp. The covering is preferably constructed of high grade leather which is fastened by sewing to the other side panels of the portfolio at the top inner edges thereof. Easy access to the top of the portfolio for opening is not readily suggested by observing from the top because the cover assembly hides the zipper from view.

  • Patent number: 4803769
Abstract: An item of luggage includes a rigid, generally rectangular luggage body having rounded corners, and a pair of generally rectangular, flexible walls which engage opposite sides of the luggage body to define the luggage interior. The corners of the flexible walls are cut to form notches, and a section of flexible, resilient material is sewn into the notches in a manner causing the section of material to form a three-dimensional, contoured shape having an edge which can be placed against and sewn to an adjacent rounded edge of the luggage body. PVC piping is sewn between the flexible walls and the luggage body and section of flexible, resilient material to give the luggage a pleasing appearance and to help strengthen the corner construction.

  • Patent number: 4629040
Abstract: According to the invention, a rigid insert is provided in a soft luggage shell. The insert conforms to the configuration of the inside luggage surface and is removably held in place by a twistable retainer ring. The ring is encased in a cloth sleeve and mounted to the luggage in the vicinity of an edge of the insert. By twisting the ring, the ring and associated sleeve can be selectively placed either abuttingly against the insert or away from the insert to allow its removal. The invention also contemplates the provision of a protective shield which is removably mounted to a surface of the luggage which abuts a carrying vehicle.
