Patent number: 6669072Abstract: Disclosed and taught is a novel drive mechanism for a cyclic operating tool employing an energized flywheel to provide the necessary energy to perform a working cycle. The drive mechanism disclosed is particularly useful in hand tool applications such as a hand held nailing machine. The flywheel may be energized by a corded or battery powered motor. The herein disclosed mechanism teaches a novel pair of ball ramp cam plates wherein a first pair of ball ramps cause an initial engagement of a clutch with the energized flywheel whereupon rotation of the clutch causes activation of a second pair of ball ramps which affect compression of a spring which acts to increase the pressure applied to the clutch thereby assuring a slip free engagement between the clutch and he flywheel throughout the working cycle of the drive mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2001Date of Patent: December 30, 2003Assignee: Senco Products, Inc.Inventors: John T. Burke, Shane R. Adams, Richard L. Leimbach, Conrad A. Garvis

Patent number: 5868229Abstract: A device for overload protection and for braking a machine part driven by a motor (2), in particular a tool driven by a cam gear in a stamping and/or bending machine, comprises a module (3), an overload clutch (4)disengaging after exceeding a torque threshold, and a freewheel (6) which, during the braking of the drive shaft (1), blocks in the direction of drive, each being arranged on the drive shaft (1) behind one another in the drive line extending from the motor (2) to the machine part.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1996Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Assignee: Micron Technology, Inc.Inventor: Gerhard Hinterlechner

Patent number: 5555964Abstract: A power transmission for a servodrive or the like has for the connection of a spindle nut with a structure an overload clutch operating in dwell-free manner and for the fixing of the structure a stopping device, so that the overload clutch releases the drive transmission despite the adjusting spindle continuing to run in the case of a path-dependent controlled stopping of the structure. The clutch can also be used as a self-engaging overload clutch for the transmission of driving torques.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1994Date of Patent: September 17, 1996Assignee: bielomatik Leuze GmbH & Co.Inventor: Rolf Thamphald

Patent number: 5127501Abstract: A brake adjusting apparatus for a vehicle includes an engine brake detector for detecting that the engine brake is applied; a drive wheel speed detector for detecting speed or acceleration of a drive wheel; a reference drive wheel speed setting circuit for setting a reference drive wheel speed or reference drive wheel acceleration to be compared with the output of the drive wheel speed detector; and an idle speed controller for controlling an idle speed of the engine, wherein the idle speed controller is so adjusted that the drive wheel is rotated at the reference drive wheel speed or the reference drive wheel acceleration, when engine brake application is detected by the engine brake detector.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1990Date of Patent: July 7, 1992Assignee: Nippon A B S Ltd.Inventor: Tetsuro Arikawa

Patent number: 4964503Abstract: A manipulator features the use of a single motor and a plurality of flexible cables which are interconnected with the motor via a plurality of clutches which can be selectively engaged and disengaged. The cables transmit rotational energy to elements of the manipulator via translation devices which convert the rotational motion into linear motion.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1988Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Assignee: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Toru Nishiyama, Hiroshi Minakami

Patent number: 4842113Abstract: A clutch (3) which can be engaged and released by a controllable clutch drive (11) is arranged in the torque transmission path between an engine (1) and a gear transmission (5) of a motor vehicle. By means of a control switch (15) the clutch (3) is released whereby the vehicle can coast free-wheeling, saving fuel, with the engine (1) working in idling rate. On actuation of a brake pedal (15) a control circuit (13) engages the clutch (3) and at the same time shuts off the fuel supply to the engine (1) by means of a fuel valve (23). The engine (1) thus brakes the vehicle without additional fuel consumption. Alternatively the control circuit (13) can have constantly shut off the fuel supply of the engine (1) in free-wheeling operation. Under control of a pressure detector (45) detecting the suction in a servo-brake unit (41) the control circuit (13) engages the clutch (3) when the pressure rises to values which no longer guarantee operation of the brake unit.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1983Date of Patent: June 27, 1989Assignee: SACHS-Systemtechnik GmbHInventor: Dieter Lutz

Patent number: 4190143Abstract: This disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for facilitating safe operation of mechanical presses. The press includes a press ram mounted on a crank shaft and adapted for reciprocatory movement along a vertical path between uppermost and lowermost points on the path. A motor is provided for turning the crank shaft through 360 degrees rotation including an upper dead center position. The press further includes main clutch and brake means for disconnecting the crank shaft from the motor and stopping the ram at the uppermost point of its path of travel after completion of a stroking cycle. At this point the crank shaft is at its upper dead center position. The press also includes an auxiliary clutch which is operatively connected in series with the main clutch and which is normally engaged for transmitting power from the motor to the crank shaft.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1977Date of Patent: February 26, 1980Assignee: Amada Company, LimitedInventor: Naoki Orita

Patent number: 3982616Abstract: A safety coupling for quickly disconnecting a cutting instrumentality from the power source of a hand-held power tool comprises a pawl on a rotating driving member engaging an abutment on a coaxial driven member. During normal operation a trip arm holds the pawl engaged. When the trip arm is tripped to release the pawl, a latch prevents reengagement of the pawl until reset.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1975Date of Patent: September 28, 1976Assignee: Textron, Inc.Inventor: Edward J.
