  • Patent number: 11027389
Abstract: A handheld power tool includes a tool holder for holding a tool, an electric motor, a shaft connecting the tool holder and the electric motor, and a protective device for stopping the tool holder in an uncontrolled situation. The protective device includes a sensor for detecting the uncontrolled situation, a switchable current source and a normally closing magnetic brake. The switchable current source outputs a first current not equal to zero in response to signals of the sensor if an uncontrolled situation is not detected; the current source does not output a current or outputs a second current different from the first current if an uncontrolled situation is detected. The normally closing magnetic brake engages on the shaft and does not apply a torque to the shaft when energized by the first current. The normally closing magnetic brake applies a torque counteracting the rotational movement of the shaft when not energized or when energized by the second current.

  • Patent number: 10666168
Abstract: Provided is an easy-to-use electric tool with which braking force can be changed according to work conditions. When an operation switch 5 is turned off, a control unit 50 detects a rotation rate R1 of an electric motor 6. The control unit 50 stands by for a prescribed period, detects a rotation rate R2 of the electric motor 6, and calculates the difference between the rotation rates R1, R2 (R=R1?R2). Since the rotation rate difference R corresponds to the rate of change in rotation rate with time during deceleration of the electric motor 6 and is smaller the larger the moment of inertia of the attached rotary tool, the control unit 50 can determine the moment of inertia of the rotary tool on the basis of the rotation rate difference R. The control unit 50 sets the braking force according to the moment of inertia and performs braking.

  • Patent number: 10472209
Abstract: A governor assembly is provided including a sheave rotatably mounted on a shaft and a ratchet disc mounted on the shaft. Rotation of the ratchet disc is restricted. An overspeed assembly includes a swing jaw mounted to the sheave. The swing jaw is movable between a normal position and a tripped position. The swing jaw is biased into the tripped position. When the swing jaw is in the tripped position, rotation of the sheave in a first direction is restricted. A tripping lever is pivotally mounted to the sheave and is configured to cooperate with the swing jaw. Rotation of the sheave in a second, opposite direction is configured to automatically move the swing jaw against its bias to the normal position.

  • Patent number: 5570770
Abstract: An arrangement for collision prevention is provided for an apparatus, in particular an x-ray examination apparatus, having components that can be moved by drive means. A collision is detected by way of detecting the speed of a relevant moving part and detecting the current and/or power supply to the drive means. Reference values for current and/or power supply at normal operation in dependence of the speed acquired by moving components are provided from a memory means and actually required current and/or power supplies are compared to said reference values. In addition, actual positions of components are detected and compared to computed expected positions of said components. A collision is detected when the required current and/or power supply exceeds a relevant reference value and the detected actual position deviates from the corresponding calculated expected position.

  • Patent number: 4267914
Abstract: An impending kickback condition is the operation of a power tool or machine tool system is sensed and used to control or eliminate the kickback. The ability to sense an impending kickback condition can be used in all categories of power driven tools. The change in force applied to the power driven tool or other implement is monitored by measuring the rate of change of speed of the tool or implement, and if the speed is decreasing, the rate of change of speed is compared with a threshold value which may be either preset or variable. If this threshold value is exceeded, an output control signal is generated which inhibits the coupling of power to the tool or other implement and/or applies a brake to stop the tool or implement. In order for power to once again be coupled from the motive power source to the shaft, the start switch must be opened and then reclosed or some other signal provided by the operator or another predetermined condition must be met.
