Coil Patents (Class 192/17D)
  • Patent number: 6164426
Abstract: At the electromagnetically controlled wrap around spring clutch a braking spring (14) designed as a wrap around spring is foreseen on the driven shaft (4) in addition to the clutch spring (8) acting between the driving shaft (3) and the driven shaft (4), which braking spring (14) is also switched by the control magnet (11), such that if the magnet is excited the driven shaft (4) is released, but at a currentless magnet the driven shaft (4) is immediately braked and blocked in the direction of the drive.

  • Patent number: 6095312
Abstract: Infinitely operating two-way adjusting device having a rive element 1, an output element 2 adjustable in angle by operating the drive element 1, and a stepped switching mechanism mounted between the drive and output elements 1, 2 which contains a fixing device which when the adjusted position is reached by operating the drive element 1 blocks rotation of the output element 2 opposite the direction of rotation of the drive element 1. The infinite stepped switching mechanism has a coupling device 5, 6 which is connected to the output element and during operation of the drive element 1 can be connected in force-locking engagement with same, and has a brake device 3, 7 which when the drive element 1 is resting blocks the coupling element 5, 6 with force-locking engagement. • Patent number: 5842659
Abstract: Lever actuator assembly includes the use of at least one clutch member for providing selective adjustment of the length or tension of a cable. The clutch member provides for a stationary position of a item such as a cable relative to the assembly housing absent any rotational force. Applying a rotational force in a selected manner results in an adjustment through movement of the clutch member relative to the housing. A disclosed embodiment is particularly useful for applications that require adjusting a relative length of a cable.

  • Patent number: 5507374
Abstract: A bi-directional sprang clutch further including a ratchet and pawl so as to permit substantial torque to be transmitted to the shade roller only in one direction. In the other direction, the roller is nearly free to rotate so that the weight of the shade material depending from one side of the roller exerts a torque on the roller which prevents reverse rolling.

  • Patent number: 4871033
Abstract: In a motor-driven hand tool, such as a drill, an inert mass is rotatably supported in a housing and is connected to the housing by a spring encircling a driven shaft mounted in the housing. The driven shaft is arranged to rotate a drill bit secured to the shaft. If the driven shaft is prevented from rotating and the housing rotates relative to the shaft, the spring tightens about and grips the driven shaft exerting a braking torque on it. The braking torque reduces the reaction torque required of the tool operator and affords a more rapid release of an overload clutch acting on the driven shaft. The overload clutch is formed by a collar, a gear wheel, a cup spring, and an adjustable ring nut, all located on the driven shaft.

  • Patent number: 4817771
Abstract: A spring clutch includes a driving hub attached to a drive shaft, a driven hub to which a mass to be rotated is attached, and first and second helical clutch springs which are engageable to interconnect the driving hub and the driven hub, the first helical clutch spring including a first portion of smaller diameter which is in preloaded contact with the driven hub and a second portion of larger diameter which has a radially outwardly-extending end, and the second helical clutch spring being in preloaded contact with the driving hub and including a radially outwardly-extending end. A rotatable clutch sleeve is connected to the end of the first helical clutch spring and is movable by a pivot lever to interconnect the end of the first helical clutch spring with the end of the second helical clutch spring so that rotation of the second helical clutch spring will cause rotation of the first helical clutch spring and thus the driven hub.

  • Patent number: 4760903
Abstract: A method and apparatus for extending the life of a control or drive spring in a wrap spring clutch. The tang of the control spring fits into a control slot of a control collar which rotates when the clutch is actuated. When the clutch is actuated, the control spring "wraps down" on both a rotating input member and the output shaft of the clutch to transfer the rotary motion of the input member to the output shaft. An elastomeric sleeve which is dimensioned to provide an interference fit between the tang and control slot of the control member is positioned on the tang and inserted in the control slot to remove any looseness or play between the tang and the control slot and thereby extend the life of the control spring and clutch.

  • Patent number: 4221284
Abstract: A coil spring clutch connects a driving hub to a driven sleeve rotatable on the hub and the sleeve drives an output or second driven member through a torque limiting clutch. The spring is readily declutched by arresting rotation of its leading end, as by interposing a stop in the path of an out-turned tang on that end, and is re-engaged by releasing the leading end. Re-engagement is characteristically abrupt and harsh, and the torque-limiting clutch in series with the spring clutch limits torque stress on the spring so that the series assembly is usable in applications which would destroy the spring clutch alone. The torque-limiting clutch may be a spring-biased friction clutch. The driven members are desirably mounted on the driving hub in a compact unitary assembly.

  • Patent number: 4059176
Abstract: The unitary spring clutch and actuator assembly has a spring clutch subassembly comprising a shaft for supporting two axially spaced input and output drums which are surrounded by a helically wound spring, one end of which is connected to a control sleeve or collar surrounding the spring. The collar has a stop element which coacts with the actuator subassembly to control rotation of the collar and hence engagement or disengagement of the spring from the input and output drums. The actuator subassembly includes a fixed frame for supporting an electro-magnetic control device which is adapted to engage and disengage from the stop element. The spring clutch and actuator subassemblies are secured together at one end portion of the shaft, which projects through an opening in the frame, and by a retaining member constructed and arranged to engage the tubular shaft and frame. A bearing is interposed between the shaft and frame to facilitate rotation of the shaft relative to the fixed frame.

  • Patent number: 3982616
Abstract: A safety coupling for quickly disconnecting a cutting instrumentality from the power source of a hand-held power tool comprises a pawl on a rotating driving member engaging an abutment on a coaxial driven member.
