Patent number: 10670129Abstract: A clutched component having a locking mechanism that employs a plurality of radially movable locking elements to selectively rotationally couple first and second coupling parts to one another. A sleeve is employed to control radial movement of the locking elements.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2018Date of Patent: June 2, 2020Assignee: American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc.Inventor: James P. Patent number: 9856929Abstract: A roller clutch includes an outer race, an inner race, a first engagement member situated between the outer race and the inner race, a second engagement member situated between the outer race and the inner race, and an electromagnetic mover to be energized or de-energized. The first engagement member is configured to engage the outer race and the inner race to transmit torque between the outer race and the inner race in response to the electromagnetic mover being energized and the inner race applying negative torque to the second engagement member while the outer race applies positive torque to the second engagement member. The second engagement member is configured to engage the outer race and the inner race to transmit torque between the outer race and the inner race in response to the inner race applying positive torque to the second engagement member while the outer race applies negative torque to the second engagement member.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2015Date of Patent: January 2, 2018Assignee: Allison Transmission, Inc.Inventor: Brian Schoolcraft

Patent number: 9388865Abstract: A gearing mechanism includes a housing component and a shaft mounted in the housing component. The shaft is driven rotating relative to the housing component with regard to a rotation axis in a first rotation direction and in a second rotation direction opposite the first rotation direction. There is also a wrap element that wraps the shaft multiple times. A first end of the wrap element is fastened to the housing component. It is also possible that an inward oriented friction surface is provided and that the wrap element is arranged within the inward oriented friction surface at least in sections in order to interact with the friction surface. In an alternative embodiment, a brake element is provided, the shaft comprises a brake element receptacle that at least partially accommodates the brake element and a contact surface is allocated to the brake element for interacting with the brake element.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2009Date of Patent: July 12, 2016Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Hans-Juergen Oberle, Wilhelm Braun, Willi Schmidt, Siegfried Reichmann, Roland Braun

Patent number: 9261169Abstract: An automatic transmission controller for controlling an automatic transmission includes a neutral controller which is configured to perform neutral control, a neutral control permission determiner, and an engagement controller. The automatic transmission includes a plurality of planetary gear mechanisms and a plurality of engagement mechanisms. One of the plurality of engagement mechanisms is a mechanical engagement mechanism. The engagement controller is configured to allow rotation of an input shaft of the automatic transmission in a case where the neutral control determiner permits the neutral control and configured to set the plurality of engagement mechanisms including at least the mechanical engagement mechanism so as to fix an output shaft of the automatic transmission to a casing of the automatic transmission in a case where the output shaft of the automatic transmission is rotated by a wheel of a vehicle in a rotational direction such that the vehicle moves backward.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2014Date of Patent: February 16, 2016Assignee: HONDA MOTOR CO., LTD.Inventors: Yuya Tachibanada, Yutaka Ishikawa

Patent number: 8038555Abstract: A new asymmetrically damped tensioner is provided utilizing a bearing-ramp clutch. During normal operation, the bearing-ramp clutch enables the tensioner arm to pivot in a first direction to take up belt slack with negligible frictional damping applied to the motion of the tensioner arm. When the tensioner arm pivots in a second direction, away from the belt, however, in a condition commonly known as wind-up, the bearing-ramp clutch locks against a fixed internal surface and creates a frictional damping force that is applied to the tensioner arm. This frictional linkage provides asymmetric frictional damping to the tensioner to limit movement in the second direction to mitigate wind-up.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2006Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Assignee: Dayco Products, LLCInventors: Jeffrey A. Pendergrass, Robert C. Joslyn

Patent number: 6899212Abstract: A one-way clutch includes a chamber containing a roller that moves in response to changes in the angular position of a component relative to an axis, such as in response to the slope of a surface on which a wheel is supported, to engage and disengage alternately a one-way drive connection between a non-rotating component and a component that rotates with the wheel. The wheel is prevented from rolling backward on an inclined surface due to this engagement and is free to ascend the inclined surface due to the disengagement.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2002Date of Patent: May 31, 2005Inventor: Tianfu Li

Patent number: 6679367Abstract: An over-running clutch assembly for an automotive transmission comprises an outer race having a cylindrical inner surface and an inner race engaged with a drop shaft of the transmission and having a cammed outer surface coaxial with the cylindrical inner surface and defining a gap therebetween and a roller clutch disposed within the gap; a biasing element to bias the roller clutch to a disengaged position; and an actuator to selectively overcome the biasing element to engage the roller clutch and lock the outer race and inner race and prevent relative rotation between the outer race and inner race, thereby preventing rotation of the drop shaft and movement of the automobile.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2002Date of Patent: January 20, 2004Assignee: NTN CorporationInventors: Richard D.
