The second engagement member is configured to engage the outer race and the inner race to transmit torque between the outer race and the inner race in response to the inner race applying positive torque to the second engagement member while the outer race applies negative torque to the second engagement member.

    Abstract: A gearing mechanism includes a housing component and a shaft mounted in the housing component. The shaft is driven rotating relative to the housing component with regard to a rotation axis in a first rotation direction and in a second rotation direction opposite the first rotation direction. There is also a wrap element that wraps the shaft multiple times. A first end of the wrap element is fastened to the housing component. It is also possible that an inward oriented friction surface is provided and that the wrap element is arranged within the inward oriented friction surface at least in sections in order to interact with the friction surface. In an alternative embodiment, a brake element is provided, the shaft comprises a brake element receptacle that at least partially accommodates the brake element and a contact surface is allocated to the brake element for interacting with the brake element.

    Abstract: A new asymmetrically damped tensioner is provided utilizing a bearing-ramp clutch. During normal operation, the bearing-ramp clutch enables the tensioner arm to pivot in a first direction to take up belt slack with negligible frictional damping applied to the motion of the tensioner arm. When the tensioner arm pivots in a second direction, away from the belt, however, in a condition commonly known as wind-up, the bearing-ramp clutch locks against a fixed internal surface and creates a frictional damping force that is applied to the tensioner arm. This frictional linkage provides asymmetric frictional damping to the tensioner to limit movement in the second direction to mitigate wind-up.

The wheel is prevented from rolling backward on an inclined surface due to this engagement and is free to ascend the inclined surface due to the disengagement.
