  • Patent number: 8083042
Abstract: A selectable one-way clutch (SOWC) is provided for use with a vehicle transmission, and has a first race with a plurality of strut pockets, a moveable selector plate, symmetrical torque-holding elements or struts, and a second race that is rotatably engageable with a torque input device. The selector plate has a plurality of windows, and the struts selectively prevent rotation of the second race in either rotational direction depending on the position of the selector plate. • Patent number: 8056690
Abstract: A transmission includes a selectable one-way clutch (SOWC) assembly. The SOWC assembly includes a rotatable pocket plate, a rotatable slide plate, and an annular piston having a ramped surface feature. The piston, which can be hydraulically actuated, moves axially toward the pocket plate when applied, and axially away from the pocket plate when released, to thereby select between two torque holding or operating modes of the SOWC assembly. The ramped surface feature of the piston engages an axial knob portion of the slide plate when the piston is applied to select to one operating mode, thus rotating the slide plate in one direction. A return spring moves the piston away from the pocket plate when the other operating mode is selected, and the slide plate is rotated via a spring in another direction. Abstract: A radial ratchet one-way clutch, including: at least one inner race having a plurality of indentations on an outer circumferential surface; at least one outer race having a plurality of indentations on an inner circumferential surface; and a plurality of engagement elements having respective first segments. The engagement elements are assembled with a bias so that the first segments are urged against the inner race. For rotation of the outer race in a locking direction, respective first segments for at least a portion of the engagement elements are engageable with respective indentations from the pluralities of indentations to rotationally lock the inner and outer races. For rotation of the outer race in a free-wheel direction, opposite the locking direction, the respective first segments are slidable across the outer circumferential surface to enable independent rotation of the outer race with respect to the at least one inner race.

Abstract: The present invention broadly comprises a torque converter including a turbine and a one-way clutch rotationally connected to said turbine and an output hub for said converter. The one-way clutch rotationally disconnects the hub and the turbine when the hub receives torque from an input transmission shaft. In some aspects, the one-way clutch is a ratchet clutch. The converter can include a torque converter clutch to lock a cover and the turbine. In some aspects, the converter includes a torque converter clutch to connect a cover, the one-way clutch, and the hub and the torque converter clutch transmits torque from the hub to the cover to start a drive unit connected to the cover. The converter can include a damper element rotationally connected to the torque converter clutch and the turbine, one-way clutch, or hub. The one-way clutch is rated to operate under multiplied drive unit torque.

  • Patent number: 7669496
Abstract: A driving force transmission apparatus has a driving gear; a driven gear; a toothed clutch transferring the driving force from driving gear to driven gear and which includes driving-side and driven-side ratchets that are movable in the axial direction of the clutch; and a compression spring biasing driven-side ratchet toward driving-side ratchet. When the tip end of the pawl of the driven-side ratchet is at the same position as the tip end of the pawl of the driving-side ratchet in the axial direction of the toothed clutch, the compression spring biasing force acts on the driven-side ratchet. And when the driven-side ratchet fully engages the driving-side ratchet, the biasing force does not act on the driven side ratchet.
