Manual Control Patents (Class 192/47)
  • Patent number: 4093049
Abstract: This invention relates to freewheels comprising a plurality of rollers interposed between inner and outer races formed on driving and driven members respectively, one of said races having a plurality of wedge-shaped portions equal in number to the number of rollers. The invention is particularly concerned with cageless freewheels of this construction, and discloses a means for moving said rollers between a first position in which the rollers assume an engaged position to transmit rotation to the driven member, and a second position in which the rollers are retained in a disengaged position. This is accomplished by at least one actuating lever interposed in the rollers, and being capable of limited circumferential movement between said first and second positions. In one embodiment the actuating lever has parallel side portions for engagement with adjacent rollers, and in a second embodiment the actuating lever includes a circular section spindle portion rotatably mounted in an axial bore in one of the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4061216
Abstract: This apparatus for coupling and decoupling driving and driven elements includes an overrunning clutch mechanism having complemental parts with members on one part movable in a plane extending radially to the axis of rotation of the parts to engage the members with the second part for effecting a driving connection between the parts, one of the parts being selectively movable axially relative to the elements to interrupt and reestablish the radial registration of the members with the second part, the elements being coupled when registration is established and decoupled when registration is interrupted.

  • Patent number: 4050560
Abstract: A fluid pressure actuated clutch for connecting concentric, rotatable shafts in a multi-stage turbine includes a plurality of pivoted pawls mounted on one shaft for engagement with a plurality of gear teeth mounted on the other shaft upon rotation of the pawls by selectively actuatable hydraulic pistons. The pawls are spring biased and/or counterweighted to pivot out of engagement with the gear teeth when the other shaft achieves a rotational speed higher than the one shaft. The device is particularly suited for connecting concentric shafts of high and low pressure stages of turbine plants.

  • Patent number: 4046238
Abstract: The present invention refers to improvements in a free-wheeling mechanism for bicycles of the kind including two fixed cones and one movable cone, mounted on an axle and so constituted as partially to provide races in which balls run; furthermore, the movable cone includes at one of its end portions a slotted head in which there rest rollers which are guided by a suitable device, which is also connected to the axle; and there is a hub in which the foregoing parts are housed with the exception of the end of the movable cone opposite the end having the slotted head; the improvements are holding means of the guide device which enable same to force the rollers into contact with the hub or prevent their contact therewith, depending on whether the wheel is to run under engagement or to turn freely without pedalling.

  • Patent number: 3976175
Abstract: A self-energizing clutch is disclosed, which is of such construction as to enable it to be engaged or disengaged at will, irrespective of the direction or relative speed of rotation, as between the driving and driven components of the clutch. The clutch consists of components or parts which are quickly and easily assemblable, and which are resistant to breakage or damage during the operation of the clutch. A particular feature of the clutch is the creation of a tangential force during operation of the clutch, which exceeds the torque or force between the driving and driven parts of the clutch, in order to disengage the clutch.
