  • Patent number: 11053857
Abstract: A method and decoupler for disengaging an output shaft from an engine in a back drive event with a backdrive decoupler. The backdrive decoupler includes a an output shaft, drive shaft, and a retention mechanism selectively coupling the output shaft to the drive shaft. In a backdrive event, the decoupler decouples the output shaft from the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 11028886
Abstract: There is provided an indicator system for a torque limiter. The system comprises a first component extending around an axis (A) and comprising one or more radially extending cam surfaces, and a second component in combination with a third component. The third component is fixed against rotation relative to the second component, but is axially movable relative to the second component. The third component comprises one or more notches, each receiving one of the radially extending cam surfaces. Upon relative rotation between the first component and the combination of the second component and the third component, a surface of each of the notches is configured to ride up a corresponding cam surface of the first component, causing the third component to move axially away from the second component.

  • Patent number: 10526974
Abstract: An air turbine starter for starting an engine, comprising a housing defining an inlet, an outlet, and a flow path extending between the inlet and the outlet for communicating a flow of gas there through. A turbine member is journaled within the housing and disposed within the flow path for rotatably extracting mechanical power from the flow of gas. A gear train is drivingly coupled with the turbine member, a drive train is operably coupled with the gear train, and an output shaft is selectively operably coupled to rotate with the engine via a decoupler.

  • Patent number: 10455754
Abstract: A clutch for an agricultural implement including a rotating unit for connection to a powered shaft, a selectively disengageable unit, a zero-backlash torque limiter operable in an engaged position where a biased plunger is housed in a seat to angularly connect the rotating unit and the selectively disengageable unit for torque transfer until a maximum torque level is reached; and in a disengaged position where the plunger is retracted outside the seat. Further, a safety occlusion mechanism having an obstructing element selectively movable in an obstructing position to hinder the seat from housing the plunger and in a release position to allow shape coupling when the plunger and the seat overlap. The occlusion mechanism is biased to switch in the obstructing position and the release position is instated by an operator.

  • Patent number: 9685841
Abstract: An electrical generating system for an aircraft may include a first shaft connected with an engine gearbox, a second shaft connected with a generator of the aircraft, and a connection unit in which the first and second shafts are selectively engageable with one another. The connection unit may include a solenoid coil, an armature co-axial with the first and the second shafts, a plurality of balls positioned around the armature. The armature may include a first cylindrical segment and a second cylindrical segment. The armature may be selectively movable between a first axial position and a second axial position. When the armature is in a first axial position, the balls are positioned to transmit torque forces between the first shaft and the second shaft. When the armature is in a second axial position, the first shaft and the second shaft are free to rotate independently.

  • Patent number: 9616516
Abstract: A drive roll carrier includes a hub coupled to and extending axially from a gear along a rotational axis, an engagement feature coupled to and extending axially from the gear, and a retainer disposed about the hub. The gear is rotatable via a wire feed motor. The engagement feature is configured to engage the drive roll and urge rotation of the drive roll as the gear is rotated. The retainer includes an alignment feature configured to receive the drive roll. The retainer may be selectively locked into one of a first position relative to the hub and a second position relative to the hub. The alignment feature and the engagement feature are aligned in the first position and not aligned in the second position, and the retainer may be transitioned between the first and second positions without being translated along the hub in a direction of the rotational axis.

  • Patent number: 9242357
Abstract: A torque-limiting device is disclosed, which may include a shaft extending axially through upper and lower shanks and a spring to connect to a nut. The upper and lower shanks may be under a force from the spring and further configured to selectively engage within a predetermined torque limit and disengage at above the predetermined torque limit. Accordingly, the shaft may receive torque up to the predetermined limit as provided by a user operating a handle of the torque-limiting device. The torque-limiting device may be disposable, reusable, economical, and have high torque capabilities.
