Velocipede Free Wheel Patents (Class 192/64)
  • Patent number: 5718315
Abstract: A free-wheel hub transmission mechanism includes an axle, and an aluminum hub barrel and a driving barrel which are rotatably mounted on the axle. The driving barrel which carries a sprocket wheel has a threaded body portion extending into the hub barrel to connect to a coupling socket which transmits the rotation of the driving barrel to a reinforcing hollow body. The reinforcing hollow body is provided in and fixedly coupled to the hub barrel. The coupling socket is movable toward and frictionally engageable with the reinforcing hollow body upon rotation of the driving barrel in one direction and is disengageable from the reinforcing hollow body upon rotation of the driving barrel in another direction.

Abstract: In order to provide a vehicle with a driven wheel (30), which possesses an external wheel hub (23) and is driven with the aid of a thrust crank drive which, while easily and safely operable, is at the same time able to achieve a high terminal velocity and which is simple in the construction of the drive arrangement, the thrust crank drive comprises a crankwheel (38) and a thrust rod (37) rotatably hinged with one end to the crankwheel (38) outside the wheel axis for the transmission of the force. The driven wheel (30) is driven by means of a drive wheel (7) which, via a free-wheel mechanism (11,12, 13,14,19), is in operative connection with the external wheel hub (23) of the driven wheel (30). A first mechanism (36) is provided which transmits the force between the crankwheel (38) and the drive wheel (7) and, for overcoming the dead center, a second mechanism is provided in the thrust crank drive which at least partially neutralizes the effect of the free-wheel mechanism (11,12,13,14,19).

Abstract: A wheel hub for a bicycle wheel has a hub shell for receiving spokes of the wheel and a sprocket body receives the sprockets. The wheel hub and the sprocket body are connected through a free-wheel clutch. The roller bearings of the sprocket body are freely axially displaceable on the axle. An end member of the hub is screwed onto the sprocket-side end of the axle and acts as a locking device for pressing the sprocket body against the hub shell. To access the clutch and for disassembling the hub, the end member can be screwed off and the sprocket body can be pulled off the axle by hand. This simplifies assembly, disassembly and maintenance of the hub.

Abstract: An improved rear hub structure for bicycles includes a rear hub housing and a driving device. The driving device has a securing seat, multiple spring elements, multiple stop elements and a gear seat. The securing seat has a stem projecting from one end thereof. An iron washer with an embossed surface is disposed between the stem of the securing seat and a threaded slot of a through hole defined in the rear hub housing. The embossed surface of the iron washer contacts the threaded slot to prevent relative rotation. The stem of the securing seat has inner threads for engaging outer threads of a threaded rod. The threaded rod and the securing seat are locked together to prevent the securing seat from moving further toward the threaded slot of the through hole when the rear hub housing rotates forwardly. The iron washer prevents the stem of the securing seat from directly pressing against the rear hub housing and thus prevents it from deforming.

Abstract: A torque responsive five-stage automatic shifting hub utilizes inner wrapped spring clutches to rotate a plurality of co-axial cylinders except for the cylinder at one end of the axis rotated by a sprocket. Gearing is interposed between the cylinders to rotate them at progressively different rpm. The wheel hub is rotated by outer wrapped springs, one over each cylinder, having one end secured to the hub and the other end floating. The outer wrapped springs automatically wrap on a cylinder rotating faster than the hub and automatically release a cylinder rotating slower than the hub. The inner wrapped spring clutches are actuated by compression springs between the cylinders which expand to actuate the associated clutch and compress to deactivate the clutch. The compression springs are of progressively different strengths along the axis of the cylinders.

Abstract: A driving device for bicycle comprising a pedal system having a left and a right pedal which repeat reciprocating motion and a hub section provided with a left and a right driving force transmission mechanism for transmitting the treading force applied to each pedal to the driving wheel independently, the aforesaid driving force transmission mechanism transmits the forward torque imparted through the pedal to the driving wheel but does not transmit the rearward torque and is provided with a clutch mechanism for disconnecting the connection between the driving wheel and the pedal when the driving wheel reverses as the bicycle is moved back. When the pedals are treaded for reciprocating motion, the driving wheel is rotated in the forward sense to move the bicycle forward and even when the left and right pedals are interlocked so that they can be treaded alternately, reversing the driving wheel is feasible so that the bicycle can be also moved back.

  • Patent number: 4671396
Abstract: The invention relates to a one-way clutch structure for a stationary exercise cycle, which structure comprises a flywheel journalled on an axle and a cog wheel for the transmission of the force created by treadling to said flywheel. Said one-way clutch structure allows, depending on the treadling velocity, the free rotation of the flywheel with respect to the cog wheel. In order to provide a one-way clutch structure of low manufacturing costs, the cog wheel is journaled on a first cylindrical surface formed in the center of the flywheel by means of a bushing member of plastic material. The coupling element is formed by a spring acting as a spring clutch known per se, which spring is fitted around the bushing member and a second cylindrical surface formed in the center, whereby the end of said spring which is on the side of the cog wheel is bent and locked in an opening provided on the cog wheel.
