With Spring Means To Move Clutch-element Axially Patents (Class 192/70.27)
  • Patent number: 6874607
Abstract: A friction clutch with a pressure plate 6, which is mounted nonrotatably but with freedom of axial movement in a clutch housing 5, this pressure plate 6 being actuated by a pressure spring 7 in the direction toward a clutch disk 8, which can be clamped between the pressure plate 6 and an opposing pressure plate 1. More-or-less radially pretensioned friction springs 18 of a friction damping device are installed between the pressure plate 6 and a component with respect to which the pressure plate 6 can move in the axial direction. The friction springs 18 are mounted on spacer bolts 12, which project axially from the clutch housing 5, these bolts passing through corresponding openings 23 in a diaphragm spring, which serves as the pressure spring 7, the diaphragm spring being mounted on the spacer bolts 12 in such a way that its plane can be tilted.

Abstract: A clutch assembly includes a diaphragm spring to bias a retainer assembly toward an engaged position. The retainer assembly actuates a lever to force a pressure plate into torque transmitting contact with a friction disc and a flywheel. • Patent number: 6305520
Abstract: A friction clutch wherein a pressure plate is movable axially of and rotates with a housing which is driven by the engine of a motor vehicle. The pressure plate cooperates with a coaxial engine-driven counter-pressure plate to bear upon the respective friction linings of a clutch disc when the clutch is engaged to drive the input shaft of a transmission in the power train of the vehicle. A diaphragm spring is tiltable relative to an annular seat at the inner side of the housing and urges the pressure plate against the adjacent friction linings when the clutch is engaged. An automatic wear compensating unit serves to move the diaphragm spring and the seat axially relative to and away from the inner side of the housing to thus compensate for wear upon the friction linings. The diaphragm spring has resilient prongs which bear, directly or indirectly, upon portions of the housing to urge the diaphragm spring against the seat and to thus bias the seat toward the inner side of the housing.

Abstract: The friction clutch comprises a clutch disk arrangement which can be brought into frictional engagement with associated friction surfaces by the action of a movably mounted thrust plate arrangement. The actuation device includes a pressure medium force cylinder arrangement by means of which the friction clutch can be actuated by an actuating member; a measuring arrangement detects an actual actuation. A control/regulating valve arrangement is connected with a pressure medium source, with a pressure compensation opening or a pressure compensation reservoir and with the pressure medium force cylinder arrangement, by means of which control/regulating valve arrangement the pressure medium force cylinder arrangement can be actuated depending on the actual actuation and on a reference actuation which can be predetermined. According to one aspect of the invention the measuring arrangement detects an adjusting path of at least one thrust plate of the thrust plate arrangement as actual actuation.

  • Patent number: 6276504
Abstract: A twin clutch has two clutch discs, each arranged on one of two coaxial shafts, having a clutch cage, which surrounds the clutch discs in the manner of an annulus, and having pressure plates which are held in a rotationally fixed manner therein and are arranged axially in such a way that they can be displaced separately axially between the clutch discs and can be pressed against the clutch discs by a diaphragm-spring arrangement arranged axially between them and can be disengaged from the respective clutch disc by means of separate release members. The diaphragm-spring arrangement includes at least two diaphragm springs of essentially the same type arranged in series, giving a broad actuating range with a constant spring force. When the release members are unactuated, the diaphragm-spring arrangement operates in this actuating range irrespective of clutch wear, it being possible to transmit approximately half of a maximum torque to be transmitted at each clutch.

Abstract: A friction clutch wherein a damper which operates with friction between the housing and the clutch spring serves to minimize or to prevent axial stray movements of the diaphragm spring relative to the housing. This eliminates chatter and/or other forms of noise which unrestricted axial oscillatory movements of the diaphragm can cause in a conventional friction clutch or in a power train employing a conventional friction clutch.

Abstract: A clutch control apparatus includes a clutch disk, which is engaged with a flywheel, by means of a diaphragm spring; a release mechanism (including a rod and an electric motor) for pressing a central portion of the diaphragm spring; and a clutch control circuit. The flywheel and an outer circumferential portion of the diaphragm spring abut each other via taper portions of a pressure plate and an adjust wedge member. The clutch control circuit calculates an ideal clutch load and an output torque of the electric motor for a detected stroke of the rod. On the basis of these values, the clutch control circuit obtains the acceleration of the rod. The clutch control circuit estimates a stroke of the rod from the obtained acceleration and causes the adjust wedge member to rotate such that a detected actual stroke and the estimated stroke become equal, thereby modifying the attitude of the diaphragm spring accordingly.
