And Fluid Pressure Engaged Patents (Class 192/85.38)
  • Patent number: 11067141
Abstract: A multi-disk brake assembly includes a static structure defining a plurality of slots, a plurality of disks including stator disks that are supported by the static structure and are non-rotatable, and rotor disks that are interleaved with the stator disks and are rotatable, the plurality of disks being axially moveable between an engaged position and a disengaged position, and a dust-collecting receptacle that is attachable to the static structure for securement during an operative state of the multi-disk brake assembly. The dust-collecting receptacle is in fluid communication with the plurality of slots for receiving and trapping dust from the plurality of disks through the plurality of slots. The dust-collecting receptacle is detachable relative to the static structure during a non-operative state of the multi-disk brake assembly.

  • Patent number: 8858394
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for engaging a friction element, e.g., a clutch, in an automatic transmission. The apparatus includes a piston contained within a housing that is used to apply pressure to and operate the friction element. The piston divides the housing into first and second chambers that are supplied with fluid by various valves. The pressure of the fluid in the chambers controls the position of the piston.

  • Patent number: 8851260
Abstract: The invention relates to a positively engaging shifting element which can be hydraulically or pneumatically actuated, comprising a hydraulically or pneumatically actuatable piston (I) having a piston compartment (2) containing a hydraulic medium or pressure medium, a jaw (3) having a dog-type gearing (4) and a mating jaw (5) with which the dog-type gearing (4) meshes when engaged. The engaging speed of the jaw (3) can be increased by decoupling the jaw (3) from the hydraulic or pneumatic volume flow when the jaws (3) and (5) are in a tooth butt position in relation to each other and by pretensioning the jaw (3) by means of a mechanical device (6) that is actively connected to the piston (I). The gap between the jaws, i.e. the window into which the jaw (3) can be engaged is maintained as narrow as possible in order for a tooth butt position of the jaws (3) and (5) in relation to each other being highly probable when the shift element is applied.

  • Patent number: 8752686
Abstract: A multi-disc frictional engagement mechanism includes driven plates and drive plates, a clutch piston including a radially extending first pressure receiving portion, a joint piston including a radially extending second pressure receiving portion and an engaging portion which is engaged with a clutch hub to engage the clutch hub and the clutch drum such that the clutch hub and the clutch drum are not relatively rotatable when the joint piston advances, a first oil chamber which causes a hydraulic pressure to act on the first pressure receiving portion, and a second oil chamber which communicates with the first oil chamber and to which the hydraulic pressure is supplied later than to the first oil chamber to act on the second pressure receiving portion when the hydraulic pressure is supplied to the first oil chamber.

  • Patent number: 8534440
Abstract: A clutch arrangement includes a housing filled with fluid, a first friction surface formation rotatable with the housing around an axis of rotation, a second friction surface formation rotatable with a driven element around the axis of rotation, a pressing element rotatable with the housing around the axis of rotation and which divides an interior space of the housing into a first spatial area and a second spatial area. Depending on fluid pressure in the first and fluid pressure in the second spatial areas, the pressing element is movable with respect to the housing for producing and canceling a frictional engagement between the and the second friction surface formations. A fluid supply system for the first spatial area and/or the second spatial area includes at least a first fluid flow path. The fluid can be supplied to the associated spatial area via at least one fluid flow path and fluid can be removed from the associated spatial area via at least one fluid flow path.

  • Patent number: 8491434
Abstract: A transmission assembly for a machine is disclosed. The transmission assembly may have a clutch pack, a first pressure chamber, and a second pressure chamber. The transmission assembly may also have a first piston configured to push against the clutch pack when pressurized fluid is directed into the first pressure chamber, and a second piston configured to push against the first piston when pressurized fluid is directed into the first pressure chamber and inhibited from pushing against the first piston when pressurized fluid is directed into the second pressure chamber.

  • Patent number: 8083043
Abstract: A wet type multiple disc clutch transmits torque from an engine a transmission and a clutch engaging portion, a piston, a first oil passage, a second oil passage, and an operating oil supply unit. The clutch engaging portion includes a plurality of plate members. The first oil passage has one end on the piston side. The second oil passage has one end on the clutch engaging portion side. The operating oil supply unit switches a clutch engaged state, in which operating oil is supplied to the first oil passage from the outside and the operating oil in the second oil passage is drained to the outside, to a clutch disengaged state.

  • Patent number: 7918315
Abstract: A limited slip differential transmission of the closed type in which a pressurized lubricant is fed to the rotating gears and a series of limited slip clutch plates. The clutch plates are engaged by pressurized control fluid. A valve assembly having a spool valve is responsive to engagement pressure to permit discharge of a portion of pressurized fluid from the clutch plates to a sump chamber and the transmission to purge debris that may have accumulated in the clutch plates. The spool valve is arranged so that fluid is passed only during an intermediate movement of the valve to minimize any pressure loss from the lubricating fluid for the transmission and limited slip clutches.
