  • Patent number: 8317013
Abstract: An auger assembly transfers particulate material from a source area to a target area using a main auger, an open top swing auger or U-trough, and an extendable loading swing auger connected to one another. The main auger is supported on a wheeled frame similar to conventional grain augers while the U-trough is pivoted thereon, and the extendable loading swing auger is mounted on a rail system on the top of the U-trough. The inlet hopper of the extendable swing auger can be extended out to reach away from the main auger thus can be more easily positioned for proper alignment with the discharge hopper of a particulate material container even when the discharge hopper is within a confined space.

  • Patent number: 7743912
Abstract: A conveyor feeding system for reliably and continuously supplying particulate matter as feedstock, such as rubber tire chips, to a reactor or distillation unit. The feeding system includes a pair of inclined spiral augers having their lower ends submerged in oil or other liquid to provide a liquid seal, thereby preventing undesirable back flow of distillation gases through the feeding system. The push auger acts to push lightweight feedstock downward, submerging it through the liquid seal. The material thereafter is taken up by the partially submerged feed auger, for withdrawal up out of the liquid seal for delivery to further processing, such as a pyrolytic reactor. Buoyant material, which otherwise might float upon the liquid of the seal reservoir, accordingly may be effectively processed through the system.

  • Patent number: 5875882
Abstract: A drive (D) for an auger conveyor (FC) is disclosed where the auger conveyor comprises a conveyor conduit (11) and a centerless helical coil auger (15) disposed within the conduit. The auger has a longitudinal axis and a plurality of spaced, helical flights (17). The drive (D) is a drive screw (23) substantially coaxial with the auger and having a plurality of flights in face-to-face engagement with corresponding flights of the auger. A drive member (47) is in driving engagement with the drive screw with the drive screw and the drive member being mounted for rotation about the longitudinal axis. A power drive (27) is rotatably drives the drive screw about its longitudinal axis so as to effect movement (either axial or rotational movement) of the auger relative to the conveyor conduit. A method of driving the auger is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5492217
Abstract: A center drive portable auger system for transporting particulate material. The auger includes an auger tube having a feed end and a discharge end, an auger drive shaft within the auger tube, and an auger flighting mounted to the auger drive shaft for transporting particulate material from the feed end to the discharge end of the auger tube. A gear box is positioned adjacent an external surface of the auger tube between the discharge end and the feed end for center driving the auger flighting. Since the central gear is external to the auger tube it does not restrict the flow of the particulate material within the auger tube, does not leak oil into the particulate material, and runs cooler than the internal gear boxes due to less friction during operation. A drive linkage operates between the gear box and the auger drive shaft for driving the auger flighting.

  • Patent number: 5129502
Abstract: A self-propelled conveyor includes a number of auger sections each section including at least one spiral mounted on a shaft, a housing surrounding the spiral and having two end terminations, and structure for driving of one spiral by driving an adjacent spiral whether or not the shaft of the spirals are in line with each other. The driving structure can comprise axially and radially extending projections from each adjacent shaft providing a lost motion connection between the shafts, or a universal joint. More than one auger may be mounted in each housing section, with a common drive shaft for the augers connected by a universal connection to a similar drive shaft for an adjacent auger section. The end terminations of the housing allow relative pivotal movement between adjacent housing sections at least in a horizontal plane, and comprise inter-engaging cylindrical section elements allowing relative rotational movement between adjacent housing sections of at least about 15.degree..

  • Patent number: 5087101
Abstract: A spiral conveyor section assembly for a mining machine includes a spiral conveyor mounted by a shaft for rotation about an axis, the shaft having first and second free ends each adapted to be connected to another shaft. A motor, gearing, and like power device effects rotation of the shaft about its axis. The power device is mounted directly in association with the spiral conveyor between the ends of the shaft. The power device has at least about 1/4-3/4 horsepower for each foot of spiral conveyor (e.g. about 32-36 inches in diameter). A second (or more) spiral conveyor can be provided mounted parallel to the first, with the power device effecting rotation of both, toward each other. A guard is mounted in association with each inner portion of the spiral section to prevent mined material from being flung from one spiral to the other. It is possible to convey mined material 1,000 feet or more utilizing spiral conveyor sections connected end to end.

  • Patent number: 4313705
Abstract: A device for unloading particulate material from circular storage bins having central discharge sumps. The device includes two augers extending radially in diametric opposition from a vertical pivot axis adjacent the discharge sump. The augers are powered to pivot forwardly about the vertical axis and are also rotated about longitudinal auger axes to engage and move particulate material toward the vertical axis and into the central outlet sump. A central counter rotating auger drive means is powered to rotate the augers in opposite directions. The counter rotating drive means includes a single input drive shaft. The single input shaft rotates two worm gears of a transmission means. Two worm wheels, each attached to a respective auger, mesh with the worm gears. The worm gears and worm wheels function as gear reduction units to transmit rotation of the input shaft to opposite geared down directional rotation of the augers. The single input drive shaft is also operatively connected to a hydraulic motor.
