  • Patent number: 7124446
Abstract: The potholder is a hand protection device with a generally rectangular body having two outer surfaces, at least one layer of flexible insulating material disposed within the body, and two pockets disposed on one of the outer surfaces. The layers of the potholder provide sufficient thickness to reduce the amount of heat radiating through the potholder from the heated object to the hand. Each pocket covers about half the entire area of the potholder and is positioned so that the openings of the pockets face each other. The fingers of a hand are placed in one pocket and the thumb is inserted in the opposite pocket. The pockets retain the potholder on the hand and prevent accidental burns incurred by grazing a hot object. A number of horizontal rows of stitches are sewn between the pockets to form a crease that facilitates the folding of the potholder.

In one embodiment, the body-securing element is a wristband that also contains a snap for releasable attachment to the hand guard element.

Abstract: An athletic finger, palm and wrist protective pad comprising a leather pad configured to substantially conform to the shape of a human palm and wrist is disclosed. The leather pad and an added pad proximate the wrist end of the pad provide protection against abrasion of the palm and wrist of a baseball or softball player while sliding into a base or home plate, as well as protection against hyper-extension of the wrist. A foam dowel encased in the leading, finger end of the pad provides a padded gripping surface for the fingers, thereby preventing jamming, as well as protection from debris sliding under the pad. An elastic loop attached to the leading edge of the sleeve slips easily over the fingers of a user and a wrist strap tightens around the wrist, allowing quick and easy donning of the protective pad while on the base path.

  • Patent number: 6826779
Abstract: A device for protecting the arm of a user consists of a protective sleeve and a tubular pouch sized to fit around a user's upper arm. The protective sleeve is made of a preselected protective fabric and is extendible from a retracted position to an extended position for deployment. The protective sleeve is shaped and sized such that in the extended position, the protective sleeve envelops the user's lower arm. An adjustable hand opening at the lower end of the protective sleeve is sized to allow a user's hand to extend out of the protective sleeve. The upper end of the protective sleeve is affixed to an inner portion of the pouch. The tubular pouch is shaped to form a circumferentially extending storage cavity for storing the protective sleeve in a retracted position. This cavity is closed by a closure mechanism when the protective sleeve is stored inside the pouch. The pouch has an attachment mechanism for attaching the pouch to the upper arm portion of the user's shirt.

  • Patent number: 6810531
Abstract: The drum glove of the present invention is designed to allow the wearer to hold and properly align a drumstick in the hand. The glove has a sheath including a back covering and a palm covering for encasing the dorsal and ventral aspects of the hand, four tubular finger sleeves that are open-ended and permit the middle and distal phalanges to extend from the glove, a tubular thumb sleeve that is open-ended and permits the distal phalanx of the thumb to extend from the glove, and between one and three elastic bands extending across the palm covering. The elastic bands are designed to replicate and enhance the natural sticking motions of the drummer. The elastic bands allow the drummer to hold the drumsticks without unintentionally dropping them. The exposed portions of the fingers and thumbs allow the drummer to retain tactile contact with the sticks while playing.
