There are tracks on the inside surfaces of the cover side walls that positively engage and slide along tracks positioned on the outside surfaces of the drawer side walls. The engagement of the cover and draw tracks allow only for the respective lateral movement of the cover across the drawer. The lateral movement of the cover allowed by the tracks is restricted in one direction by the cover end tabs, and in the other direction by the drawer locking tab.The drawer locking tab has a step that overlaps the cover surface. To open the slide box the cover tab must first be deformed backward, removing the step from above the cover, and then downward so that the whole locking tab is beneath the cover. Once the draw tab is below the cover, the drawer can be pushed past the cover, exposing the contents of the drawer.

Abstract: The casing serving as a safeguard against burglary for tape recording cassette containers is made of a plastic material and includes in the narrow wall opposite of the insertion opening a perforation of the wall close to an edge and extending at its center substantially at the level of the angularly adjacent inner surface of the casing into the casing. Two locking bodies arranged adjacent of each other and integrally connected by a base disk and having a hook-like broadened and thereafter wedge-like sharpened end section are inserted into the perforation. The hinged lid of the tape recorder cassette container is kept somewhat depressed by the hook-like broadened end section which end section simultaneously engages over the adjacent side wall of the contained wherewith the container of the cassette and the casing are interlocked. In order to unlock the connection the interconnection between the locking bodies and the base disk resting against the outside of the casing is ruptured by means of a special tool.

  • Patent number: 5035608
Abstract: A device to render articles such as disposable lighters resistant to unauthorized use including a body which slidably receives the lighter. In the normal protected position, the lighter is within the housing and is restricted from extension from the body to a use-position by a locking pin carried on a rocker arm. The rocker arm controls the position of the locking pin and may not be released unless the lighter is inverted releasing a tumbler freeing the rocker arm and thus permitting depression of the rocker arm to disengage the locking pin from the lighter. In the disengaged position, the user may slide the lighter relative to the sleeve to a use-position in which the lighter may be actuated. The safety device may be applied to other articles to make them child-resistant such as medicine containers.

  • Patent number: 5033634
Abstract: A child resistant box which is composed of a base, a lid and a hinge connecting the base and lid together. A latching mechanism is located on each of the two sides of the box for releasably retaining the lid to the base. The box can be moved between open, intermediate, and closed positions. The box also includes a means for biasing the lid from the intermediate position toward the closed position. To open the box the lid is compressed to the intermediate position. In this intermediate position, the latching mechanism may be disengaged by exerting manual pressure thereon toward the center of the box. Once pressure is exerted simultaneously on both latching mechanisms the lid is released and the biasing means moves the lid at least partially toward the open position. The operation of this box is particularly well-suited for the elderly.

  • Patent number: 5033778
Abstract: An over-center toggle latch which can be integrally molded with the first and second members of a case. The over-center toggle latch includes a hinge arm that has first and second spaced ends. A first living hinge attaches the first end of the hinge arm to the first case member. A second living hinge is for coupling a lever arm to the second end of the hinge arm. An engagement member-receiving seat is formed on the second member of the case. An engagement member is mounted to the lever arm and is spaced from the second hinge. The engagement member pivotally engages the seat with the hinge arm in an over-center position with respect to the engagement member. The latch is configured for use with first and second case members that have sides and edges. When the first and second case members are secured by the latch, the edges are generally coplanar and perpendicular to the sides.

Abstract: This invention relates to a component door assembly for an electronic device which hides and protects removable electronic components. The door has separate locking and moving mechanisms so that two operations must be performed before the door can be opened. Specifically, in the preferred embodiment a resilient sliding door is mounted on tracks or grooves in the housing of an electronic device. The door has a button on one end and a handle on the other end. To open the door, the button is pressed inward while the handle is pulled in the direction of the button.

Abstract: There is provided a collapsible barrel-shaped barricade which telescopes within itself for compact storage. Particularly, a solid and heavy base is provided for stability and a series of telescoping ring members are mounted thereon; the lowest ring being mounted to the base and upper rings being concentric with the lower ring. The concentric rings are arranged to interlock by placement of a tab from an inner ring into a horizontal slot on the inside of an outer ring. This interlock operates to hold the rings in an extended position when the barricade is in use.

  • Patent number: 4921097
Abstract: A display case for jacketed cassettes includes a casing that defines an internal cavity and a protrusion that projects into the cavity. The casing provides an opening that permits the slidable withdrawal of a cassette from the display case in a well-defined, unique and predetermined direction. The protrusion is attached to the lid of the casing that is movable between open and closed positions and is engaged with the jacket on closing the lid to prevent the movement of the jacket in the direction of withdrawal of the cassette. Locking means keep the lid in closed position once engagement with the jacket has been achieved. The display case of the invention permits the cassette and the entire, unaltered advertising wrap or jacket to be conveniently displayed by the retailer and ultimately transported by the renter or user who chooses the video tape for viewing.
