Abstract: A packaging blank is scored with several substantially parallel laterally spaced apart score lines adjacent the intended location of a rounded edge on the container produced from the blank. The score lines are formed on the inside surface of the blank which places the score lines inside the container formed from the blank. When the blank is bent into shape at the rounded edges, a portion of the total deflection is absorbed by each score line whereby the resulting container edge is a gradual curve rather than a single sharp crease. Placing the score lines on the inside of the formed container results in opposing faces of the container being planar and parallel to one another.

Abstract: Hinge-lid package with a package portion (10) and lid (11) and with a collar (23) especially for containing a cigarette block (27). Package portion (10) and lid (11) are interconnected in the rear region of the hinge-lid package by an obliquely-extending hinge joint (58). In addition, a collar front wall (24) is provided with an oblique-angled, trapezoid aperture (28), forming an oblique collar edge (31). In correspondence with this, an upper package edge (36) is obliquely oriented.

Abstract: A one-piece, flip-top reclosable container embodying the present invention includes an outer carton having opposing top and bottom walls, front and back walls, and first and second side walls. The first and second side walls and the front wall include a preferential area of weakness for opening the carton from a sealed form to an unsealed form. The preferential area of weakness forms a lid hingedly connected to the top wall. The top wall includes a front top minor flap hingedly connected to an upper end of the front wall. An internal collar is integrally formed with the front top minor flap. The internal collar is disposed within the carton when the carton is in the sealed form. The internal collar includes a front panel and opposing first and second side panels adjacent to the respective front wall and the opposing first and second side walls of the carton. The front panel of the internal collar is detachably connected to the front top minor flap along at least one horizontal fold line.

Abstract: A hinge-lid box for cigarettes, and a blank for producing the same. Hinge-lid box (hinge-lid packs) for cigarettes usually comprise a box part 11 and a lid 12 which is connected pivotably on the box part 11. Positioned in the box part 11 is a collar 34 which, by way of a top region, partially projects out of the box part 11 when the hinge-lid box 10 is open. The hinge-lid box 10 according to the invention has a closure aid in the region of side walls 16, 17 of the box part 11 and in the region of lid side walls 26, 27. Formed, for this purpose, in the region of the side walls 16, 17 and lid side walls 26, 27 are mutually corresponding protrusions 44, 45 and depressions 46, 47 which, in the closed position, engage with one another in a frictionally and positively locking manner.

Abstract: Hinge-lid packets, especially of the round-edge type, comprise packet portion (10) and lid (11) as well as collar (23). The closed position of a packet of this type is often unsatisfactory. A closing aid is therefore provided which consists of a closing tab (35) in the region of a collar front wall (24) on the one hand and a lid inner flap (36) on the inner side of a lid front wall (17) on the other hand. The closing members mentioned above move into a closed position, mutually interlocking.

Abstract: There is provided a pack (10) for smoking articles, which pack (10) has an outer carton (15) having generally rectangular front, back, side, top and bottom panels and an inner frame (12). The deflection is usually accomplished by pushing inwardly on the lower regions of the top part when the top part is lowered into a closed position, and the lower regions of the top part may comprise one or more lugs, which may be of arcuate shape. The container thereby provides more convenient and more positive closure than previously available.

The lids (14, 15) are to be opened in opposite directions. Within the double pack, the individual hinge-lid packs (10, 11) are separated from one another approximately centrally by means of bottom walls (34, 35). The bottom walls (34, 35) are parts (bottom tabs 67) of the collar (36, 37).

Abstract: In order to reduce the material and production costs, a hinge-lid box comprising a single all-in-one blank is desirable. In the case of a blank designed, in particular, in accordance with the transverse folding principle, the collar (12) is connected to a main blank (27) for the hinge-lid box, in the region of the folding tabs of the lid (11), via approximately triangular folding gussets (46, 47). The folding gussets (46, 47) are positioned such that, by folding the collar (46, 47) over against the inner side of the main blank, the collar automatically passes into the position which is appropriate for the pack. The folding gussets (46, 47) are connected to the collar (12) by material remnants (52, 53). When the lid (11) is opened for the first time, the material remnants (52, 53) are severed.

Abstract: A box is disclosed having a pivot lid and a skirt. The skirt has an internal edge cooperating in a snap locking manner with a folded-over flap at the front edge area of the box mouth. This flap protrudes from an edge area which, as a whole, is resiliently depressible into the box, whereby a snap locking is achieved which will be substantially independent of the manufacturing tolerances of the box. The locking and, in particular, the release of the locking by the opening of the lid will take place in a manner that is very convenient for the user, because the spring action after the release of the locking will contribute to the opening of the lid.

Abstract: A pack of cigarettes or of products of the tobacco industry is effectively protected against light, as well as against the loss or the penetration of humidity and the loss of aroma or off flavor of the products it contains, even though it is wrapped in a blank generally comprising only a single layer of material, when particular precautions are taken order to form the corners of the pack. Another advantage of the proposed package resides in the fact that it possesses several opening mechanism at the user's choice, permitting the latter to open his pack either as a conventional soft pack or as a hard pack. A package of this type is particularly ecological since it is preferably made up from a biodegradable material.

Abstract: Hinge-lid pack for cigarettes or the like with a box part (12), lid (13), and collar (38).For the material-saving and simpler manufacture of hinge-lid packs, a collar is connected to a main blank (33) in one-piece via material webs (43, 44). The material webs connect the collar (38) to the lid inner tab (36) in the region of side webs (49, 50) of a collar front wall (39). The relative position is chosen such that the collar (38) assumes the appropriate position after being folded over.

Abstract: To improve the possibility of extracting cigarettes from the pack, the bottom wall of the pack is made to be bevelled, that is, oblique, with respect to the from and back walls of the pack. The cigarettes stand respectively to the bottom wall and are thereby offset in height relative to one another. The cigarettes are supported by an upper supporting wall and a lower supporting wall which have recesses aligned with one another for receiving the cigarettes therethrough. The support provided by the supporting walls maintains the cigarettes at a distance from one another and from the walls of the pack.

The blank includes a rectangular bottom section and has first, second, third and fourth rectangular wall sections, wherein each wall section is joined to a separate side of the rectangular bottom section. Each of the first, second, third and fourth corner sections is formed by coaxial lines extending from the sides of the first, second, third and fourth rectangular wall sections and abut a corner of the rectangular bottom section. A perimeter area is contiguous with the first, second, third and fourth wall sections and first, second, third and fourth corner sections. In each corner section, a line diagonally bisects the corner section from the corner of the rectangular bottom section. First, second, third and fourth corner lines diagonally bisect each respective corner section from the corner of the rectangular bottom section through the abutting corner section into the perimeter area.

Abstract: Step-shaped innerframes and blanks for forming such innerframes are provided to permit shorter than conventional cigarettes to be packaged in a conventionally sized hinged lid box. A front panel is foldably connected to a substantially perpendicular step bottom panel which in turn is foldably connected to a substantially perpendicular back panel, such that the front and back panels extend in opposite directions and lie in substantially parallel planes to form an integral step configuration. When the inner frame is located within a hinged lid box, a receptacle is formed for a short cigarette bundle. A lower receptacle is defined below the step bottom panel to store discarded cigarettes which are inserted into the lower receptacle via a hole located in one of the box walls and any associated underlying innerframe panel.

To arrange a plurality of articles (29) within the pack at a distance from one another, supporting walls (32, 33) are arranged at a distance from one another in a pack part (10) of the pack. The articles (29) pass through coaxially arranged recesses (35, 35) of the supporting walls (32, 33) and are thereby positioned in an exact relative position in relation to one another. The supporting walls (32, 33) are part of a supporting insert (42) which consists of a blank and which at the same time also forms a collar (38) arranged within the pack part (10).

Abstract: Hinge-lid box for cigarettes or the like, with box part (12) and lid (13).For the material-saving and simpler manufacture of hinge-lid boxes, a collar (38) is connected integrally, via material webs (43, 44, 45), to a main blank (33) for the hinge-lid box. Abstract: A high barrier sealable packaging material and a high barrier heat sealed package for smoking articles, such as cigarettes and the like, are disclosed. The packaging material comprises a base layer of a polymeric film, such as a biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film which has been metallized on one surface thereof with a layer of metal, such as aluminum. The metallized film is then imprinted with ink with a design and/or printed matter on either the metallized or unmetallized surface. Subsequently to or concurrently with the printing, a heat seal layer is applied to the printed and/or unprinted surface for forming a heat seal about which the material is wrapped. In one embodiment, the high barrier packaging material is used as an overwrap for a cigarette package having a tear tape for removing one end of the overwrap.

Abstract: In a cigarette packet of the type with a hinged lid composed of a rigid box and a soft inner wrapping directly enveloping the cigarettes, the lid end is reinforced internally by a frame lodged between the wrapping and the box, and the packet often assembled with a leaflet or coupon inserted between the frame and the wrapping. To ensure that the coupon does not slip out of place as assembly operations proceed, the frame or the coupon itself is fashioned with at least one slot position to interlock with a corresponding part of the coupon or the frame, accordingly.

In order to secure the closing position of such a hinge-lid pack (10), an insertion flap (40) is attached to the lid front wall (25) as a continuation thereof. This insertion flap (40) is inserted into a gap (41) in the closed hinge-lid pack (10), which is formed between a collar front wall (36) of a collar (35) and a front wall (16) of the box part (14).

The cigarettes (10) or the cigarette group (11) is enclosed by an inner blank (12) consisting of paper or tin foil. This is provided on the front side with a pull-off flap (57) in order to ensure access to the cigarettes when the pack is used.

Abstract: Hinge lid packs without outer wrapping have been offered in the market recently. The mechanical production of hinge lid packs is complex because the common collar is produced from a separate blank. In the hinge lid pack according to the invention, the pack part (18) and the lid (19) are connected to one another by residual connections (38, 39) made from the packaging material. These residual connections (38, 39) are severable when the lid (19) is opened for the first time. Preferably, the collar (15) is connected to the lid (19) via the residual connections (38, 39).

Abstract: A blank for forming a cuboid wrapping for groups of cigarette packs (bundles) comprises a front wall, a rear wall, longitudinal walls and a longitudinal flap which is located on a free longitudinal side of a front, rear or longitudinal wall in order to form an overlap, and comprising end flaps which are located at the front wall and rear wall in order to form end walls. The blank is designed in such a way that waste is kept to a minimum when several individual blanks are arranged within a larger sheet. For this purpose, the front wall (12) has a larger end flap on one side (23) and a smaller end flap (19) on the opposed side (22), and the rear wall (13) has a smaller end flap on the side where the larger end flap (18) adjoins the front wall and it has a larger end flap (20) on the other side.

Abstract: A hinge-lid pack made from thin cardboard with a pack part and a lid connected pivotably to the pack part. A one-piece collar consisting of a collar front wall and collar side tabs is arranged in the pack part. The collar partly projects from the pack part and is surrounded by the lid in the closing position. The collar side tabs extend in the region of the inner sides of the side walls of the pack part. At least a middle part region of the collar front wall is set back with respect to the front wall of the pack part, and is arranged inside of the pack part at a distance from the front wall and parallel to the front wall, so that inside the pack part, two upright chambers are created. At least one article is accommodated in each of the upright chambers, which are separated from one another by the collar front wall, and which extend along the entire height of the pack part.

For various reasons it is required to form projections (10), stops etc. in pack panels of packs made of (thin) cardboard. To support a collar (13) which is located in the box part (11) of a hinge-lid pack, projections (10) are disposed at the side panels (17, 18). These projections are formed from a transversely directed punch cut (21) and a convexity which adjoins this punch cut and is made by shaping the material (cardboard). A projection (10) which is designed in this manner is produced in a single working step by punching and shaping (embossing) with the aid of an appropriate tool (punching piece 24) in conjunction with a counter tool (counter roller 28) during the continuous transport of a blank.

Abstract: With hinge lid packs having a pack part 10 and a lid 11 hinged thereon, especially when they are equipped with round edges, it is difficult to ensure that the lid 11 precisely remains in the proper closing position. In order to guarantee an accurate closing position, a closing pressure is applied to the lid which is a result of frictional resistance or interlocking of a collar 23 in the lid 11. Collar 23 and lid 11 are interlocked by pushing webs 42, which define a recess 29 of the collar 23, into lateral openings 43 of an inner lid flap 39 so that the webs 42 move into a wedged position.

In order to accommodate cigarette packs (10) of small dimension, namely height, in a bundle pack having standard, that is to say larger outer dimensions than the packs, a bottom wall (23) is set back inwards according to the height of the cigarette packs. A free compensating chamber (26) is obtained underneath the bottom wall (23). The downwardly open compensating chamber (26) is surrounded all-round by a double-walled edge.

Abstract: A separable container for storing a plurality of articles is formed from a pair of partially enclosed members arranged in adjacent relationship. A third member is secured to the first and second members so as to form with the first member a first walled enclosure and with the second member a second walled enclosure, each for storing a plurality of articles. A line of perforations arranged in association with the third member enables separating the first and second walled enclosures from each other. The separable container is particularly advantageous in enabling a retailer to sell less than a total quantity of stored articles within the original container, such as cigarette packs and the like.

Abstract: In hinge-lid packs comprising a pack part (12) and a lid (13) hinged to a pack rear panel (15) it is difficult to ensure a precise closed position of the lid (13). This is particularly the case in hinge-lid packs with rounded longitudinal edges (10, 11). To create an additional closing force, outwardly directed deformations, particularly convexities (38), are formed in the free portion of collar side panels (28, 29) of a collar (26). These convexities abut the inner sides of the lid side panels (17) with an increased friction and thus create an increased closing force. The deformation of the collar side panels (28, 29) is a result of longitudinal collar edges (30, 31) diverging towards the free edge. As a result, there is a strain of material which effects the deformation of the collar side panels (28, 29). A further or alternative closing aid is provided in the form of an upright or inclined cut (39) arranged in the region of the collar side panels (28, 29).

Abstract: A pack has a retention member formed in the walls of the innerframe and the lid. The retention member can be tab-like extension members extending from a top edge of the innerframe and the bottom edge of the lid. When the tab-like extension member is folded into operational position, it functions to help keep the lid closed by providing additional interference between the lid and the innerframe. The retention member can also be segments of inner wall panels of the lid itself. When folded into operational position, the folded segment of the inner wall panel functions to help keep the lid closed by providing additional interference between the lid and the innerframe. Any of these retention members can be folded into operational position by the manufacturer. Alternatively, the pack can be provided to the consumer with the extension member in non-operational position, leaving to the individual consumer's discretion the decision to fold the retention member into operational position.

Abstract: A hinged lid cigarette pack includes a bottom portion defining a receptacle for the cigarettes and a hingably connected lid which closes over the cigarette. A tab is foldably connected to the front wall of the lid at a mating edge between the lid front wall and the bottom portion front wall. The tab comprises a front tab panel foldably connected to the lid front wall at the mating edge and a top tab panel foldably connected to the front tab panel via a first tab fold line. A back tab panel is foldably connected to the top panel via a second tab fold line which is located opposite to the first tab fold line. When the lid is closed, the respective tab panels lie in a face-to-face contact with corresponding front, top and back walls of the lid. When the lid is open, the tab does not interfere with access to the cigarettes. At the desired time, the tab is extended such that the panels lie in substantially the same plane to read messages printed thereon.

Abstract: A rigid package, particularly for cigarettes, substantially in the form of a rectangular prism and defined by a cup-shaped body having, at the open end, a collar and a lid hinged to the rear edge of the cup-shaped body; the package being formed from a blank incorporating the collar, and wherein a central panel with lateral tabs defines the front wall of the package, and presents, together with the tabs, a precut line for detaching the front edge and lateral edges of the lid from corresponding edges of the cup-shaped body.

Abstract: A pack for cigarettes or the like and a process and apparatus for the production thereof is described. Due to several reasons (cigarette) packs quite often have greater (inner) dimensions than the pack contents (cigarette block 23). In order to fill a cavity formed hereby within the pack, a filling piece (39) is provided which is formed from a flat blank (40) by means of folding up outer blank portions.
