Patent number: 7857128Abstract: A laminate including a flavorant useful for packaging cigarettes or other products such as food products. The laminate includes crosslinked polymer coatings adhered to at least two metal foils, and a volatile flavor component such as menthol is applied to one of the polymer-coated surfaces. The laminate minimizes loss of volatile and/or heat sensitive flavor components from the package during extended periods at elevated temperature which are often associated with long term storage and/or shipping.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2004Date of Patent: December 28, 2010Assignee: Philip Morris USA Inc.Inventor: Sarojini Deevi

Publication number: 20090266726Abstract: A cigarette or cigar cover comprises attaching means for attaching to the cigarette/cigar, and covering means of a diameter so devised as to keep a distance between cigarette and cover. The covering means has a length so devised as to fully cover the cigarette to protect it from rain. In the cigarette cover, the attaching means is a generally cylindrical part of an inner diameter so devised as to hold the cigarette therein. The cover may also be useful to protect from humidity, dust and other interference.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 25, 2008Publication date: October 29, 2009Inventor: Tom Elia

Publication number: 20030164314Abstract: The invention relates to a smoking article package, which package comprises a sealed enclosure (1) around a charge of smoking articles and a sheet material wrap (7) disposed exteriorly of the enclosure (1). The sheet material wrap (7) is so configured as to provide means by which the first opening of the enclosure (1) cannot take place without the wrap (7) being torn or partially or fully removed.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 21, 2002Publication date: September 4, 2003Inventor: Jonathan Andrew Bray

Patent number: 5581047Abstract: A blank cut and scored for forming an electromagnetic interference shield is disclosed. The blank includes a rectangular bottom section and has first, second, third and fourth rectangular wall sections, wherein each wall section is joined to a separate side of the rectangular bottom section. Each of the first, second, third and fourth corner sections is formed by coaxial lines extending from the sides of the first, second, third and fourth rectangular wall sections and abut a corner of the rectangular bottom section. A perimeter area is contiguous with the first, second, third and fourth wall sections and first, second, third and fourth corner sections. In each corner section, a line diagonally bisects the corner section from the corner of the rectangular bottom section. First, second, third and fourth corner lines diagonally bisect each respective corner section from the corner of the rectangular bottom section through the abutting corner section into the perimeter area.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1994Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Orion Industries IncorporatedInventor: David I. Patent number: 5581049Abstract: An expanding joint is disclosed for increasing the size of an initially substantially planar member, upon stretching. The joint includes a discontinuous incision having a sinusoidal pattern extending transversely on an axis extending normal to the direction of stretching and being arranged in alternating concave and convex portions. Each of the concave and convex portions are discretely separated from the portions by an isthmus such that the incision widens upon application of tension in a direction substantially normal to the axis.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1994Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Orion Industries IncorporatedInventor: David I. Patent number: 5178272Abstract: A box-like cigarette pack has an innerframe which initially extends upward into what is normally a cutout in the front of the innerframe. This extension may then continue over the top of the cigarettes in the pack. The innerframe is weakened along the line which normally defines the cutout. When the consumer first opens the pack, he or she can remove the innerframe extension by tearing or separating along this line of weakening. Thereafter, the pack is like a normal pack. Additional information can be printed on the removable portion or portions of the innerframe. If provided, the portion which initially extends over the cigarette tops is a convenient size for use as a coupon or the like.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1991Date of Patent: January 12, 1993Assignee: Philip Morris IncorporatedInventor: Donald H. Patent number: 4711349Abstract: In pouch packs for tobacco or the like of the "side-folding pouch" type, it is difficult to make a hermetic closure for the orifice of a pocket of the pouch pack, because accumulations of material impeding the provision of a closing seam or the like arise in the edge regions as a result of the construction of the pack. For this reason, the pouch pack is spread out to the full width of the blank in the region of the orifice for the provision of a closing seam, the closing seam is then made and the projecting lengths of material thus formed in the region of a covering tab are folded over inwards against the latter. This results in a pouch pack which is closed in an absolutely leak-proof manner and which has an essentially cuboid shape after completion.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1987Date of Patent: December 8, 1987Assignee: Focke & Co.Inventors: Heinz Focke, Oskar Balmer
