Abstract: A package including an intermittent urinary catheter and a protective sleeve is provided. The protective sleeve is adapted to cover the surface of the catheter prior to use, thereby preventing contamination of the surface. The protective sleeve is compressed in a storage-position, and in a use-position it is extended to cover most of the insertable length of the catheter. In the compressed state, the urinary catheter may be wetted if the catheter is provided with a hydrophilic coating. The protective sleeve may be made of flexible material, which may be folded or pre-folded into a concertina-like configuration. A package which includes an intermittent urinary catheter with a protective sleeve is provided. An assembly, which includes a package with an intermittent urinary catheter, and a compartment containing a fluid medium, is provided. Finally, a method for wetting an intermittent urinary catheter including a protective sleeve is provided.

  • Patent number: 7905352
Abstract: A reloadable medicine injector and methods are described in which a barrel with a receiving cavity is adapted to slidably receive a syringe subassembly for axial movement therein. Upon removal of a safety and release of a syringe driver, the syringe driver moves forward and injects the syringe needle. A plurality of penetration controls are shown for controlling injection needle penetration depth. The penetration controls have an abutment and various lengths to provide different needle penetration depth positions. In one form of penetration control a sleeve is used against which the syringe or related parts contact. In another form the front return spring is used as a penetration control. A cushioning ring may be used to reduce syringe breakage. A load distribution and guide ring may be used to distribute loading applied to the syringe and help guide the moving syringe.

Abstract: A catheter assembly is disclosed comprising a catheter, preferably having a hydrophilic surface coating; and a package accommodating said catheter. The package preferably also accommodates a wetting fluid. The package comprises: a first and a second sheet material connected around the edges; a perforation line extending along a non-closed loop in one of said sheet materials, said perforation line defining a flap opening; a third sheet material connected by means of an adhesive over said flap opening, wherein said third sheet material with a margin covers the entire flap opening. The adhesive is adapted to maintain a sterile closure of the package before use, and to be resealable after use. Further, the third sheet material forms a tab not provided with adhesive, said tab providing a grip portion for peel opening of the package.

Abstract: A vapor hydrated packaged catheter assembly and method of manufacturing and distributing same includes a gas impermeable package housing a catheter within a catheter-receiving cavity. The catheter assembly has a hydrophilic coating applied to at least a portion of the outer surface of a catheter tube or shaft which may be surrounded by a sleeve to provide a no-touch, sure grip feature. The catheter assembly is disposed within the catheter receiving cavity of the package together with a limited amount of a vapor donating liquid provided as a source of vapor to activate the hydrophilic coating. The amount of vapor donating liquid is less than the amount that would otherwise be sufficient to cause a spill hazard. It may be loose liquid as a desired percentage of the volume of a tube-receiving portion of the catheter receiving cavity of the package, or it may be contained in a liquid sequestering element.

Each one piece tray is molded to have three longitudinal areas separated by two rows of spaced posts. A plurality of allergy testing needles are removably held between the adjacent posts. These syringes each have needle protective housing and a sheath that covers the needle prior to use color coded to reflect the gauge of the needle of the syringe. The plunger end of each of the syringes is capped so that each syringe is isolated from the environment. The trays are sealed by a cover sheet that may also have markings in the same color as the color of the housing and the sheath, so that a clinician can readily tell the gauge of the needle of the syringes stored in the trays, without having to remove the cover sheet.

  • Patent number: 7874426
Abstract: A rigid crush resistant plastic tube having quickly removable end caps. A hypodermic needle contained in a sterile needle wrapper is placed inside the crush resistant tube so that a portion of the wrapper is folded over the outside distal end of the tube. The end cap is then secured over the folded wrapper portion on the distal end of the tube in a friction fit arrangement to secure the needle wrapper between the cap and tube. In this arrangement, when the end cap is removed, it pulls the needle wrapper out of the protective plastic tube to allow for rapid access and deployment. In use, the plastic tubes are secured with elastic bands inside a carrying case, such as a first aid backpack. As the soft cases are often subject to substantial exterior impacts, the tubing significantly reduces the risk of needle breakage.

Abstract: A bone cement injecting tool is configured to be capable of inhibiting or preventing the occurrence of air bubbles in the liquid as a pressure transmitting medium. The bone cement injecting tool is composed of a first cylinder possessing a bore, a second cylinder possessing a bore, a first gasket slidably sealing the bore of the first cylinder, a second gasket slidably sealing the bore of the second cylinder, a tube communicating the first cylinder and the second cylinder, and liquid (e.g., water) filling the space I the tube and the first and second cylinders between the two gaskets. A piston is positioned in the first cylinder, and a pressure-retaining member applies pressure to the forward end of the piston so the piston moves the first gasket toward the forward end, thereby delivering the water to the second cylinder through the tube. During storage, the pressure-retaining member pushes the piston toward the fore-end, and this pushing force produces the pressure of the water.

  • Patent number: 7850646
Abstract: A syringe has a barrel to receive a cartridge. The barrel has a front end portion to which a needle is connected for engagement with the cartridge. At its rear end, the barrel has a plunger mechanism. A sleeve is slidably mounted on the barrel and can be pushed forwards to sheath the needle. The needle is mounted on the barrel via a push-fit mounting device. The needle can be removed for disposal in a container by inserting the syringe into a tube on top of the container so that the protective needle sleeve is pushed back and the needle and mounting device pass through a collar of gripping fingers at an inner end of the tube. The fingers catch behind the mounting device so that this is pulled off to drop into the container with the needle when the syringe is withdrawn from the tube.
