  • Patent number: 5713468
Abstract: A slidable utility box includes a number of features which are particularly well adapted for use in confined spaces (crawl spaces, attics, etc.). The box includes a pyramid shaped obstacle deflector, which may be removably secured to either end of the box. The bottom of the box is smoothly rounded into each of the opposite ends of the box, and is smooth and devoid of protrusions to preclude digging in to a soft or irregular surface. The lid is completely removable, and need only be lifted sufficiently high to clear the flange around the upper edge of the box upon which the lid seats, for removal of the lid. The lid may include hinged or removable legs, allowing the lid to be used as a seat if desired. The box may include trays or partitions for tools if desired, but these are preferably removable to provide added versatility for the box, e.g., for the removal of debris, material from an excavation, etc.

  • Patent number: 5649623
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method for holding articles on a ladder, operable with a combination of a tool belt, a tool box, and/or an apron. In one combination that uses all of these items, the apron has belt loops. The apron attaches to the sidewall of the tool box. The belt loops secure the tool belt. And the tool box with the apron and the tool belt attached is situated on the top step of the ladder. To stabilize the tool box on the top step, the apron has an edge overhang, which extends over at least part of the sidewall of the top step. For further stabilization, the belt loops also extend over at least part of the sidewall of the top step, thereby allowing the tightening of the tool belt around the sidewall of the top step. Additionally the tool box is stabilized on the step ladder by straps attached to either the tool box or to the apron itself. The straps extend underneath the top step of the step ladder.

Abstract: A tool box having a plurality of trays stackable therein provides a snug fit for each of the trays located therein so as to prevent any lateral movement of the trays as the tool box is moved. Further, a topmost tray engages the lid of the tool box when the lid is closed, thereby preventing any vertical movement of the trays as the tool box is moved. In this manner, the contents of each compartment of each tray remain in place even if the tool box is dropped as long as the lid does not open. Two latches on the front of the tool box prevent the lid from opening as the tool box is moved about.
