Abstract: This invention comprises a sanitary beverage can lid wherein the center platform of the lid including the pull tab is raised from below the rim of the can as in conventional cans to a position close to or slightly above the rim of the can. The center platform diameter is reduced in diameter to provide additional space from the exterior of the can body to the edge of the platform. The pull tab is positioned in the middle of the center platform so that the end of the pull tab is at the edge of the center platform to facilitate opening of the can. The raised center platform and the lid design prevent an individual's lip from coming in contact with the groove along the edge of the lid where dirt may accumulate. Another feature is the provision of a raised rim on the platform with an interior drain-back slope so that any excess beverage flows back into the can.

Abstract: A nestable and stackable storage unit including a lid and container is disclosed. The container comprises a base having an upwardly extending wall. The lid is a substantially planar member having top and bottom surfaces and peripheral edge. The lid can be connected to the top of container by locating a head on the rim into a groove located on the bottom surface of the lid. The lid can be connected to the bottom of the container by pressing the lid onto the base which also includes a head. The units can be stored by locating each lid on the base of the container, and nesting the units within one another. Each lid includes a ridge and recess on its top surface for allowing stacking of the same or different size containers upon one another.

Abstract: A thin walled lid formed of a thermoplastic material having a generally circular center portion and an outer rim portion which fits over the cup bead and includes an integral peripheral skirt which makes up the outer side wall of the lid is disclosed. Located between the rim portion and the center portion is a recess or annular trough with an inner wall and an outer wall. The outer wall is separated into two shelves and three vertical sections. The lower shelf serves as a receiver ring upon which the lid above rests. The short vertical section located above the receiver ring effectively prevents any lateral movement of the lid above, while the lowest wall section forms the stacking ring and generally has a negative slope toward the lid skirt. Spaced periodically around the circumference of the stacking ring are positive draft flutes which have a positive slope away from the skirt and toward the center of the lid. The recess has a generally flat bottom which connects the stacking ring to the inner wall.

Abstract: A molded lid having an intermediate region configured as a sequence of waves, each of curved cross-section forming successively occurring crests and troughs, and exhibiting amplitudes increasing in value from the lid center toward the rim. The waves terminate at a ring band which is located to slide in adjacency with the inwardly disposed side of a plastic drum. The lid is provided with a polymeric gasket which is retained in position by a retainer band which is insertable in sliding compressive engagement within a retainer cavity.

Abstract: A thin-plate supporting container provided with supporting rib portions, each of which consists of multi-stage ribs, for supporting thin plates respectively on multiple stages at regular intervals. The ribs are provided in parallel on each of opposing side walls of the container casing in such a way that the supporting rib portions cooperate to hold the thin plates. An open end of the thin-plate supporting container serves as an inlet/outlet port, through which the thin plates are loaded and unloaded from the container. Each of the supporting rib portions is composed of an inlet portion adjacent the inlet/outlet-port and a support portion interior thereof. Further, the opening between opposed side surfaces of adjacent ribs is set to be sufficiently large that the thin plate can be easily loaded and unloaded.

Abstract: A laundry receptacle with a flexible cover and handles comprises a structurally rigid receptacle portion and a flexible covering assembly. The rigid receptacle portion may be of a variety of sizes and shapes. The flexible covering assembly is comprised of a flexible covering material of varying sizes and shapes, which is wound around a cylindrical rod when not in use, and which is unrolled and extended across the open upper end of the rigid laundry receptacle and affixed to a circumferential flange that is itself integrally secured to the open upper end. The cylindrical rod is cooperatively attached to hinges at its opposite ends. The hinges are, in turn, securely affixed to the circumferential flange, so as to allow the cylindrical rod to rotate and the flexible cover to unroll over the open upper end of the rigid laundry receptacle.

Abstract: A package for storing and shipping memory disks is disclosed. The package includes a base and cover designed to enclose and seal a plurality of disks held in a cassette. The base and cover include re-enforcing gussets and members for securely retaining the cassette and disks so that the disks do not tilt, rattle or otherwise move during transport.

Abstract: A transportable spill containment pan includes a reservoir that can be disposed between, and rested upon, conventional railroad rails beneath a stationary railroad tank car. The pan includes a pair of flaps that can be moved from a closed position where they overlie the reservoir and provide a cover therefor, to an extended position where they divert inadvertent spills into the reservoir. A pair of parallel, spaced tubes extend across the reservoir and through opposed sidewalls defining the reservoir. The tubes are of a size and shape to receive the forks of a conventional forklift truck, thereby permitting the pan to be moved conveniently from place to place. The pan includes endwalls connected to the flaps, the endwalls having horizontal ledges that enable another pan to be stacked atop the first.

Abstract: This invention relates generally a cover member in combination with an open mouth container formed with a plurality of integral keeper channels and a cover member that includes a plurality of keeper members adapted to lockingly engage the keeper channels that are integrally formed in the collar of the container, whereby the configuration of the cover member and the matching configuration of the associated container are always secured in fixed alignment with each other when the cover is secured over the mouth of the container, whereby the container is readily adapted to be received and stacked in the receptacle of the preceding covered container in a stable vertical formation.

Abstract: A pizza pan system includes a pizza pan including a bottom wall, a side wall circumferentially about the bottom wall such that the bottom wall and side wall cooperate to define an area for containing pizza dough, and a rim circumferentially about the outer edge of the side wall; and a lid-like member mating with said rim enabling pizza dough to be compressed between said lid-like member and said rim to produce single-crusted, fold-over or double-crusted pizzas. The system allows storage of panned pizza dough within a substantially air tight chamber. The pans of the system can be stacked to economize on countertop or storage space. The area for confining pizza dough allows, in conjunction with a trimming means, consistent reproduction of aesthetically pleasing pizza shapes. A method of preparing pizza includes rolling dough, placing the dough in a pizza pan, and placing a lid over the pizza pan to compress, shape, conform and trim dough about a rim area of the pizza pan and lid.

Abstract: A set of different sized container assemblies, each container assembly consisting of a container and a matching lid, are disclosed in which same size containers nest, same size containers stack, and each smaller size container assembly is received within a larger container assembly, each lid having generally downwardly depending flange means which are radically spaced to receive the upper wall portion of an associated container, the assembly including cam means which assist in the assembly of a container to its associated lid.

Abstract: A stackable and nestable full-depth case for bottles having a floor structure for supporting a plurality of bottles thereon, a plurality of vertical columns extending upwards from the floor structure, a rim connecting the plurality of columns, and a bifurcated cover hingedly connected to an upper edge of the rim and positionable in open and closed positions over the bottles. The bifurcated cover includes a ceiling and a plurality of separating projections depending from an under surface of the ceiling. The separating projections engage the bottles when the cover is in the closed position thereover such that the bottles are retained in an upright position. Each separating projection is generally semi-cylindrical in shape and surrounds at least a portion of the top of each bottle. In a preferred embodiment, each separating projection includes an inner semi-cylindrical wall, an outer semi-cylindrical wall, and a sloping, semi-circular collar element connected therebetween.

Abstract: A pill container having a cylindrical body portion, whose diameter is greater than its height, and an upwardly dome-shaped lid with laterally-extending handles to facilitate grasping. The body portion includes an upwardly dome-shaped bottom surface so that a plurality of these pill containers can be stacked on top of one another.

Abstract: A substantially rectangular multi-purpose craft comprising a outwardly extending, convexly-curved front and back walls, and side walls, the front, back and side walls surrounding a main compartment, a front tray which extends outwards from the upper portion of the front wall, and a contoured lid to cover the multipurpose craft box. The main compartment contains a plurality of opposing grooves for receiving a partition so that the main compartment may be subdivided into smaller compartments. A shoulder runs along the inside surfaces of the front and back wails forming a resting surface for supporting a container. The front tray is divided into a plurality of compartments. Opposing slots located in the inner wails of the compartments for receiving dividers allows a user to further subdivide each front tray compartment.

Abstract: A cable storage container is provided which includes a conical core with a top and a bottom, the bottom having a larger diameter than the top, an annular core base plate joined to the bottom of the core, a conical outer cover, the other cover retaining stored cable between the outer cover and the core, the outer cover having a top and a bottom with the top having a larger diameter than the bottom, and an annular outer cover base plate joined to the outer cover, the outer cover base plate having an opening fitted around the bottom of the core.

Abstract: An open top container having a drum and a lid wherein the lid engages the drum for sealing the contents thereof using clamps which secure the lid and drum into an engaged relationship. The lid and drum utilize a cammed engagement member so that as the clamps are activated the cammed surface provides a tightening of the lid to the drum.

Abstract: A package for maintaining a modified atmosphere around contents being contained therein when stored in an ambient environment is set forth. The modified-atmosphere package includes a tray, a membrane, and a structural member. The tray has a base and side walls extending upwardly from the base. The side walls and the base define a cavity wherein the contents are disposed. A membrane is attached to a top portion of the side walls and encloses the cavity. The structural member is detachably connected to the top portion of the side walls and is disposed above the membrane to prevent the membrane from contacting an external structure which inhibits permeation through the membrane. The structural member also has at least one opening for exposing the membrane to the ambient environment. Stacking means at the base of the tray and the top of the structural member allow the modified-atmosphere packages to be easily stacked.

Abstract: A lid assembly is provided for a pail which is characterized by a receptacle portion that is closed of by a secondary lid. The receptacle portion is provided for storing and displaying items related to the contents of the pail, e.g., small tools or instructions. The lid assembly may also have a pouring spout, either within or outside of the receptacle portion, so that the contents of the pail may be emptied without removing the entire lid assembly.

Abstract: A container for storing liquid is contemplated which comprises a rigid vessel defining a chamber to retain liquid, the vessel has a generally vertical sidewall and an outer top surface. The outer top surface defines a mouth intersecting the chamber which is configured to move liquid to and from the chamber. The top surface defines a circumferential ledge having an outer edge connected to the sidewall. The top surface also defines an upturned lip connected to the ledge and circumscribing the mouth with the lip being horizontally inset from the outer edge by the ledge. A lid is removably connected to the vessel by press-on attachment with the lid having an upper surface opposing a lower surface. The lid includes a circumferential outer flange seated on the ledge and a stacking rib projecting upward from the upper surface with the rib being circumscribed by the flange as well as circumscribing a central portion of the lid.

Abstract: A portable plastic container has a tapered tongue on a lid top wall arranged for positioning within a tapered groove of a similar container bottom wall for vertically stacking a selected quantity of containers in an interlocking arrangement. Interlocking the containers permits opening of any container without the need foe rearranging and restacking. For interlocking one container to another, the bottom groove of one container is forced into the top tongue of a similar container. A snapping sound is heard as the tongue passes through a slightly smaller groove opening to its seated position within the groove, thus providing seating feedback and assurance to the user that the containers are properly interlocked.

Abstract: A lid has a manually operable latching arrangement which prevents inadvertent disengagement of the lid from a container body even during severe service conditions. Latching is effected by a captive plate on the lid, the plate carrying a latching strap and a blocking member. In the latching position, the blocking member engages under a lip or flange at the upper edge of the container body, and the plate is retained in the latching position by engagement of the latching strap with an abutment in the lid.

Abstract: Rigid container structure for hermetic sealing of particulate solids which emit an off-gas during containment. Provisions are made for enclosing chamber space with a gas-permeable imperforate membrane film so as to selectively separate and retain an off-gas out of contact with container contents. In a specific embodiment, carbon dioxide is selectively separated from coffee contents while the entire container, including such enclosed chamber as established, is hermetically sealed from ambient atmosphere. Provision is also made for venting of a separated off-gas in initiating a rupture of an end closure structure prior to full opening of the container. That arrangement further diminishes the opportunity for inadvertent discharge of particulate solids due to expulsion of gas from inert gas purging and from gas emitted during hermetic sealing.

Abstract: The present invention is a storable system of containers. Structurally, the present invention includes a series of vessels and corresponding covers. Each vessel is partially insertable into another vessel to configure the vessels as a vessel stack. Each cover is attachable to another cover to configure the covers as a cover stack. The cover stack and vessel stack are attachable to form a storage stack. An individual container is removable from the storage stack by removing a single vessel and the corresponding cover.

Abstract: A receptacle has a bottom and an articulated sidewall structure which is capable of being collapsed and positioned flat on the bottom and, to enhance the static and dynamic load capacity and for simplified handling in transport, includes sidewall retention elements arranged on a bottom frame which engage matching retention recesses in the sidewall structure when it is erected and mounted on the bottom of the receptacle.

Abstract: A container has a drop gate and lids that open along hinge joints formed at the upper end of the side walls. The drop gate is formed in one end wall and the lids can also be opened half way from the end wall in which the drop gate is formed. In this way, access to the interior of the container can be gained through the open drop gate and the open half of the lids so that the container can be used as a shelf box or hopper in a flow racking system. Further, when the lids are opened along their respective side wall hinge joints, the container can be used as a distribution tote. When the container is also used as a bulk shipper by vendors or suppliers, the container can perform three functions in a distribution system. Specifically, the container can be first used as a bulk shipper, then, without unpacking the goods, the container can be shelved on a flow racking system from which orders can be selected at a distribution center.

The wall portion includes an inner wall adjacent the center portion, an outer wall spaced from the rim and a joining wall connecting the inner wall and the outer wall and forming a cavity therebetween, the rim being received into the cavity. The inner surface of the outer wall includes an inwardly extending projection which interlocks with a projection on the container rim and holds the lid onto the container. The outer wall is further provided with a plurality of slots which divide the outer wall into a plurality of separate and individual sections to allow for easy removal.

Each insert includes pockets therein which receive and cushion eggs, and suspend the eggs above the bottom wall of the box. The pockets are arranged in two rows of spaced pockets with the rows longitudinally offset and the pockets of adjacent rows generally transversely internested. The overall configuration of the box and internal inserts is an elongate and narrow oblique parallelepiped.

Abstract: A refuse container and corresponding lid for storing and transporting goods, wherein the lid is slightly domed and provided with one or more drain channels for conducting accumulated liquid out of a recessed portion of the lid. The container is also provided with handles having a double vertical wall support structure at the point of attachment to the container for increasing the rigidity and vertical and lateral load bearing capacity of the handle. The bottom of the container is shaped to correspond to the lid to allow for vertical stacking and to limit the lateral motion of the stacked containers. The container bottom also contains radially extending ribs which provide additional material to wear away when the container is dragged over floor surfaces. The ribs, which provide a very small contact patch area, reduce friction when the container is dragged over a floor surface. Also, the container bottom is provided with an indented hand grip which assists in the handling of the container.

Abstract: A stackable container useful for containing premoistened wipes therein includes a bottom having a pair of circular recesses and a lid having a pair of circular projections in alignment with the circular recesses so that the container may stack with similar containers. Each container is twice as long as it is wide so that the containers may stack in a staggered configuration, extending either parallel or perpendicular with respect to one another. The lid of the container is unitary with a rim and pivots with respect to the rim on a living hinge. A raised floor with a gutter therearound is provided at the bottom of the container for supporting a stack of moist wipes, wherein the edges of the lowermost wipes remain immersed in moisture which pools in the gutter in order to keep the stack moist.

Abstract: A stackable container for computer media, such as floppy disks or the like. The container comprises a base and a removable cover. During ordinary use of the container, the cover fits in an upright orientation securely atop the base to provide closure of the container. The cover is constructed so that when it is removed and inverted, it nests in the base of the container. Thus, during packing and shipment (or storage) of the container, the cover is removed and inverted and nested in the base. The cover, which is typically made of clear styrene, is relatively brittle, and the ability to nest the cover in the base, which is typically made of a more resilient plastic, provides protection from physical damage to the cover during shipment. Also, the base is constructed to at least partially nest in the inverted cover, so that multiple containers can be packed and shipped more compactly.

A stepped outward shoulder is provided adjacent the top end to define an outwardly stepped sidewall portion provided with external threads. An internally threaded cover member is releasably engageable over the top end of the container body to selectively close off the top opening of the container.

Abstract: A paint roller tray detachably mountable on a paint container, the container having an opening permitting access of a paint roller into the container, and the tray having a roller platform and attachment means which allow the tray to be mounted in a first and second position on the container, in the first position the attachment means are engaged so as to locate the roller platform above the container and laterally offset from the opening so as to permit insertion of a roller into the container and in the second position the attachment means are engaged to locate the roller platform immediately above the container and over the opening.

Abstract: The present invention is a footlocker of molded plastic construction which includes a bin having a storage cavity and a lid hinged to the bin for enclosing the storage cavity. Two plastic latches are used to secure the lid in its closed relation above the bin. Each of the latches includes a face plate with a front surface which preferably has graphic indicia molded therein. In order to lock the lid in its closed position and thereby safeguard the contents of the bin, the footlocker preferably includes a padlock hasp. In order to hold the lid open in any position, the footlocker includes a lid stay mechanism connected between the lid and the bin. The bin has a plurality of continuously molded feet and the top surface of the lid a plurality of stacking depressions molded therein for receiving the feet and thereby enabling multiple footlockers to be stacked on top of one another.

Abstract: A re-usable tray for securely containing both small and large perishable goods, while providing a unique means for ventilating and circulating fluids is described. The ventilating means efficiently permits the transfer of fluids between the interior and exterior of the tray. The tray may be combined with a cover to form a container. The container may contain blueberries and other small perishable goods, wherein the ventilating means is not blocked by these goods. Further, the ventilating means provides for drainage to minimize condensation build up. The container also has ribs extending from the sides, front and back of the container providing rigidity and support to the container. The ribs have slits that provide additional ventilation to the container. The container also has a support means for preventing the top and bottom of the container from bending or curving into the interior storage area of the container.

Abstract: A stackable refuse container system includes multiple stackable containers, each of which may be designated for holding a particular recyclable material. The containers are vertically stacked and a cart can be provided for transporting the stacked assembly to and from a curb. Each container may include a removable lid, a front portion of the lid being hingably attached to provide access to the container and a second portion formed to engage and support a bottom of a complementary container. Each container also has sockets for receiving the feet of another container when a lid is not used. Thus, containers can be stacked one upon another, with the lids on or off, and mounted on the cart if one is used. The containers an be provided, for separating recyclable from non-recyclable materials at the point of origin without taking up substantial space.

Abstract: The invention concerns a large-capacity stackable drum with a substantially cylindrical sidewall and top and bottom ends. To improve the stackability in particular the long-term stackability an internal hydrostatic pressure which supports the side wall is initially produced, when stacking several drums one on top of the other, in the gas space above the content and in the contents, of the drums stacked underneath, by virtue of the elastic flexibility of the top and/or the bottom of the drum, until a reduced stacking load acting through the top rim or grip ring of the drum into the drumwall is produced or support provided through the bottom rim or grip ring.

Abstract: A stacking tray and lid assembly has a tray with an upper surface and a multiplicity of depending compartments for receiving food. The compartments are spaced inwardly from the side margins of the tray to provide a peripheral portion thereabout. The lid has a generally planar body and a depending peripheral flange with a multiplicity of bosses on the inner surface of the flange which engage the outer edge of the peripheral portion of the tray.

Abstract: A storage container which includes a base within which is defined a storage compartment. A lid is to be connectable with the base closing the storage compartment to the ambient. The lid is bulbous so that relative to the storage compartment it can be located in a concave position decreasing the size of the storage compartment or a convex position increasing the size of the storage compartment. This reversibility of the lid can be achieved by constructing the lid so as to actually be physically reversible or also by having the lid to be physically deflectable from the convex position to the concave position.

Abstract: An improved stackable container adapted to positively lock with a second container. The container includes a base and a lid for covering a storage space within the base. The base includes a downwardly depending rim having an inner diameter sized to fit over an upwardly extending cylindrical step on the lid of a second container, the downwardly depending rim and upwardly extending step including locking structures for positively locking a base of one container to a lid of another container. The locking structure preferably includes a plurality of multiple thread segments evenly spaced around the lid and base. There are preferably twelve thread segments evenly spaced around the step of the lid and within the rim of the base, the vertical height of the step being relatively small and the angle of rotation to lock the lid and base together is correspondingly small.

Abstract: A stacking drawer assembly (10) is disclosed comprising a base (14), lid (12), and drawer (16). A bottom surface (35) of the base (14) is provided with a central recess (38) and a pair of locking tabs (44) extend into the recess from a rearward recess sidewall (42) of the base (14). The lid (12) has a central raised pedestal (22) and a pair of spaced apart slots (50) extend through a rearward pedestal side (28). The base recess (38) is sized to receive the pedestal (22) of a second drawer assembly in stacking fashion, and the tabs (44) project through the slots (50) and latch over an inside surface edge defining the slots (50) to lock the stacked drawer assemblies together.

Abstract: A package for a caramel apple, candy apple or the like includes a base having at least one recess for the receipt of an apple, a ridge extending substantially around the periphery of an open end of the base, and a first substantially flat outer surface abutting the ridge, and a cover accommodating a stick protruding from the apple and having a shoulder extending substantially around the periphery of an open end of the cover for sealing contact with the ridge of the base when the cover and the base are in a closed position, and a second substantially flat outer surface abutting the shoulder and being located adjacent the first substantially flat outer surface of the base to permit a single label to be affixed to an area of both of the first and the second substantially flat outer surfaces to maintain the package in a closed position and provide a tamper evident seal. Other embodiments of a protective package are also disclosed.

Abstract: A stackable and nestable crate apparatus particularly adapted for the transport and storage of easily breakable products, such as potato chips, or the like, includes an open topped container body of unitary molded plastic construction. A lid extends across the open top of the container body and is mountable thereon at various selected elevations to vertically support an overlying, stacked crate apparatus at a level suitable for the size of the product housed within the supporting crate apparatus. The front and rear walls of the container body are appropriately recessed to permit relative sliding movement between adjacent, stacked crates. The peripheral dimensions of the lid are correlated with respect to those of the interior of the container body to enable ready access to the product within a crate apparatus when slidably extended from the stack and to permit the lid, when rotated, to be readily received within the container body in order to accommodate nesting of empty crates.
