  • Publication number: 20040011719
Abstract: A filter press (1) for filtering suspensions is provided with a package of plate-like filter elements (5) which in a filtration position can be pressed sealingly against one another in a parallel arrangement. Thereby the filter elements (5) enclose in pairs a filter chamber which is delimited at least on one side by a planar filter medium. Furthermore, the filter elements (5) are movable to a discharging position in which adjacent filter elements (5) have a distance from one another which allows the removal of the filter cake from the filter chamber. In order to reduce the overall height of such a filter press (1) or to increase the filter surface area with unchanged overall height, it is proposed that the filter elements (5) are alternatingly inclined towards one another in the opposite direction in the discharging position, so that the distance between adjacent filter elements (5) increases in the discharging direction of the filter cake.

  • Patent number: 6626094
Abstract: In a filter press, a stack of vertically oriented, horizontally displaceable filter plates enclose filter chambers therebetween. The filter plates are successively moved relative to each other from a closed pressing position, through a pressure relief position, to an open discharge position. At least one connecting element is connected to each filter plate, and is movably coupled to the respective adjacent filter plate by a coupling pin, which slides in a specially configured groove of the connecting element. In the relief position, a respective coupling pin is stopped against an intermediate blocking surface of the groove of the connecting element of the next adjacent filter plate, thereby preventing further horizontal displacement. By unlatching the connecting element, the coupling pin can then slide to a stop surface of the groove, to allow the adjacent filter plates to be displaced farther into the open discharge position.

Abstract: A filter press frame and method, operable for compressing a stack of filter plates, provides a very light frame as compared to the iron, steel and stainless steel filter press frames that have been used for the last one hundred years. The filter press frame of the present invention is formed of material much more resistant to corrosion for a much wider pH spectrum of acids and bases than iron, steel, and stainless steel frames. In a preferred embodiment, the filter press tail, follower, and head, referred to generally as head members, are comprised of core material inserts encapsulated with fiber reinforced plastic. The shifter housing mounts a bumping device which cooperates with the endmost plate in the stack to effect vertical bumping thereof relative to the support rails to assist in loosening sticky cake which adheres to the plate.

Abstract: In order that higher demands on the purity of the separated liquid can be satisfied, a cleaning plant (12) having wash chambers (13a,b) for the cleaning of the filter plates (8) is arranged in longitudinal direction alongside of a filter press (1). By means of a transport device (30) having a displacement device (32) which is moveable along rails (31a) and is equipped with a raisable and lowerable gripper (37) which can be engaged via pawls with filter plates (8), the filter plates, after the opening of the filter press (1), are transported one after the other into the cleaning plant (12), sprayed in one of the wash chambers (13a, b) with simultaneous drawing off of the air or subjected to an immersion bath, possibly disinfected or impregnated, dried and transported back. • Patent number: 5045186
Abstract: A filtration method includes steps of feeding liquid to be filtered into a filter medium between a fixed plate and a movable plate; and reducing capacity of a filter chamber formed by the medium by moving the movable plate in a direction in which the movable plate presses the fixed plate through the medium so as to perform expressing filtration of the liquid and to produce cake. The reducing step comprises alternately repeating at least one time an expressing pressure-increasing process for increasing pressure in the liquid in the medium by a specified increment in the filtration of the liquid, and an expressing pressure-maintaining process for maintaining the pressure constant during a specified period, so that the filtration is performed under a specified pressure corresponding to a desired water content of the cake to produce the cake. A filter press for employing the method has the filter medium arranged between the fixed plate and the movable plate capable of moving toward and away from the fixed plate.
