  • Patent number: 4511469
Abstract: This invention relates to a filter press in which between a pair of heads a plurality of filter plates are connected to one another by loose connecting means. In the improved apparatus, the heads are both movable so that the filter plates may be moved in sequence, simultaneously from both end sides, toward the center to close the intervals therebetween or away from the center to provide intervals therebetween, whereby the time required in assembling and separating the filter plates can be considerably reduced. When the filter plates in assembled state, if one of the heads is pressed, while the other head is placed under action of stoppers, the filter plates are vigorously tightened by a cylinder having a shorter stroke than that in the prior-art apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4495071
Abstract: A liquid filtering apparatus comprises upper and lower platens and a plurality of intermediate plate members between the platens. When pressed together with a sheet of filter media between each pair of adjacent plates, a fluid-tight chamber for incoming liquid to be filtered is formed on one side of the filter media. When the filter media requires replacement, the upper platen is lifted to separate the plates. Each plate is provided with combined alignment and stop means so that when the plates are again brought together after renewal of the filter media, they will automatically resume their normal stacked position in proper alignment, the stop means also providing a preselected amount of space between adjacent plates to cause a desired amount of compression for a sealing member between the plates. The alignment and stop means is designed to absorb the compression load on the plates, thereby enabling them to be made of lighter metal or plastic materials without overstressing their side walls.

  • Patent number: 4486306
Abstract: A filter press with filter plates slidable individually by a transport element has on each filter plate a locking hook which cooperates for locking with a locking bolt of the adjacent filter plate. A pivotable blocking element, which in the blocked position, positively blocks the locking hook locking this filter plate against unlocking and is connected to an actuating member which projects into the path of the transport element so that immediately before the latter takes along the relevant filter plate it engages the actuating member and thus pivots the blocking element into a release position so that the filter plate is separable after release of the locking hook. Each respective filter plate to be slid thus remains positively locked to the as yet unopened plate stack until immediately before it is taken along by the transport element and cannot become separated from the stack accidentally.

  • Patent number: 4479873
Abstract: A filter press comprises a main frame having upper side bars for movably supporting a plurality of plates in horizontally stacked relation. The plates are moved to open the filter press by plate transporting trolleys which are supported on the upper side bars. Light emitters are mounted at one end of the press on each side bar and light detectors are mounted at the opposite end of the press on each side bar and are aligned to receive light from the light emitters. Shutters are coupled to the plate transporting trolleys such that the light from the light emitters is normally blocked by the shutters. The shutters are opened for a brief period of time when the plate transporting trolleys are moved into engagement with one of the filter plates such that plate engagement signals are generated by the light detectors.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of closing, compressing and opening filter presses for membrane filters with a stationary upper yoke (7) and a lower yoke (6) movable on vertical press columns (2) and has for its object to improve the service and buildup of such membrane filter presses. This is achieved according to the invention by a method in which a loose lifting tool (10) is fitted under the movable yoke (6) and set in operation, whereby the yokes and the press plates situated therebetween are pressed against each other whereupon the movable yoke (6) is locked in the position taken and, upon opening of the press, is released whereupon the lifting tool is set out of operation and is removed. An apparatus for carrying out the method is characterized in that, between the movable yoke (6) and an abutment (4) there is an interspace (14) in which a lifting tool (10) can be placed and set in operation or out of operation.

The trolley is movable reciprocably along the rail by an endless envelope change drive, entrained with a sprocket wheel fixed on a shaft, journalled in the trolley. A separating device is supported in the trolley for movement reciprocably perpendicular to the direction of movement of the trolley toward and away from the filter plates. The separating device is connected to the sprocket shaft so that rotation of the shaft lifts or lowers a separating wedge relative to the filter plates separating the first of the filter plates and enabling the trolley to displace it alone.
