Patent number: 4351724Abstract: A plate-type filter press has sidebars carried on fixed frames, and the filter press plates, the queen end and the king end are all supported on the sidebars by means of pins projecting laterally from the plates and the king and queen ends and resting on the bars. The plates and the queen end are able to slide along the bars on their pins, and even the king end is allowed a limited amount of float between stops on the bars. Patent number: 4351725Abstract: In a plate filter press with filter plates (8) suspended on support guides (3, 4), which filter plates are guided along stop rails (23, 24) for the purpose of preventing pendulating oscillations, the oscillation protection is to be constructed so that a required filter plate replacement or filter cloth exchange can be carried out without disassembly of the oscillation protection. For this purpose, the provision is made that the stop rails (23, 24) can be operatively adjusted away from the filter plates (8), and to attain this objective, the stop rails are preferably pivotable about axles (30, 31) extending in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the filter press.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1981Date of Patent: September 28, 1982Assignee: Rittershaus & Blecher GmbHInventors: Karl A. Patent number: 4343235Abstract: A plate type filter press, which is opened and closed by at least one hydraulic piston-and-cylinder unit, has a mechanical lock to lock the press in the closed position so that it is not necessary to maintain a high hydraulic pressure to keep the press closed. The mechanical lock may be a set of claws on the hydraulic cylinder to co-operate with a locking ring on the piston rod, with a hydraulic lock cylinder to retract the claws for unlocking, or a lock gate that is introduced into or retracted out of the path of a lock collar on the piston rod by operation of a lock cylinder. The press is first closed with a predetermined high hydraulic pressure that compresses the filter press pack sufficiently for easy movement of the mechanical lock into locking position, and then operation of a lock limit switch automatically stops the hydraulic pump and energizes a bleed valve to reduce the closing pressure to a level at which the press pack compression is relaxed enough to give firm lock engagement.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1980Date of Patent: August 10, 1982Assignee: Johnson-Progress, Ltd.Inventor: Paul F. Patent number: 4329228Abstract: An improved filter plate of the type used with a vertical stack of other such plates to form an industrial filter of the type known as a horizontal plate filter. The improved filter plate has a generally upright side wall, and a divider plate or transverse planar plate portion secured to the side wall below the upper margin thereof. An open top trough is formed in the divider plate to receive the filtrate passing through a filter medium above the filter plate when the latter forms a part of a horizontal plate filter. A hole in the side wall permits the filtrate to be removed from the trough. The filter plate further includes a fluid inlet conduit and an air vent/blowdown conduit extending through the side wall into the space below the divider plate. The trough and removable conduits eliminate the need for fixed baffles for use as the fluid inlet, outlet, and blowdown means as found in a conventional filter plate.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1981Date of Patent: May 11, 1982Assignee: J. Patent number: 4295970Abstract: A conveyor device for pulling apart or conveying filter plates of a filter press. The conveyor device includes a carriage that is adapted to be moved along above the filter plates. The carriage is provided with a pawl and a drop lever that successively engage and transport filter plates, with the carriage passing from one end of the filter press to the other end of the filter press during one work cycle. The carriage automatically returns to a starting position at the other end of the filter press after a completion of the work cycle and, for this purpose, run-up ramps are provided at the ends of the filter press, with one of the run-up ramps being adapted to swing the pawl and drop lever into an opposite stop position so as to enable the elements to travel above the plates without contact. The other run-up ramp at the other end of the filter press again releases the pawl and drop lever and brings them back into a ready setting for a subsequent new work cycle.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1980Date of Patent: October 20, 1981Assignee: Rittershaus & Blecher GmbHInventors: Max Oelbermann, Karl-August Rademacher

Patent number: 4230572Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for mechanically locking a movable filter shell of a pressure filter in filtration position adjacent a second fixed filter shell, in order to accommodate and resist higher internal filtering pressures. In the method, a gasket between the two filter shells is compressed to an extent greater than necessary to achieve a liquid tight seal, in response to movement of the movable shell toward the fixed shell. Next, a locking member is freely inserted between the movable shell and an abutment with clearance being provided in order to facilitate the insertion of the locking member due to the movable shell excessively compressing the gasket. Upon initiation of the filtration cycle, the movable shell is slightly displaced away from the fixed shell in response to internal filtration pressures, with the locking member preventing further displacement in order to maintain the gasket in water-tight sealing compression.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1976Date of Patent: October 28, 1980Inventor: Gene Hirs
