Abstract: A filtration system for collecting bone fragments during surgery performed on a patient includes a cylinder having a rotating disk with circumferential arms extending radially in the cylinder to define pockets. The rotating disk includes a longitudinal hub that carries an outlet connected to a central passageway formed in the disk. A plurality of apertures on the disk permit the liquid to flow into the passageway and through the outlet while the pockets retain the bone fragments. The disk is rotated to align circumferential spaced pockets to align with the inlet and outlet ports. The disks includes bearing surfaces that permit the rotation thereof and the arms are spaced from the cylinder inner surface to allow the flow of fluid in the event the pockets fill and clog the apertures and prevent flow into the outlet passage.

  • Patent number: 7964094
Abstract: A solvent filtration and recovery system for filtration and recovery of a solvent-based liquid used in dry cleaning includes filtration tank having filter chamber with motor-driven spin filters which are selectively operated. A valve and conduit arrangement allows the liquid from dry cleaning to enter the filter chamber for filtering and flows out as filtered liquid while the spin filters are not rotating. The arrangement allows initial at least partial draining of the solvent-based liquid in the filter chamber after such filtration procedure. A recovery tank is in communication with the filtration tank through a main drain. A motor drives the spin filters during a recovery procedure, in which centrifugal force caused by the rotating spin filters for a predetermined amount of time removes by-product from the spin filters, which is drained off from the filtration tank. A reservoir stores the solvent-based liquid and receives the liquid from both the recovery tank and the filtration tank.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to an encapsulated filter unit, a system and a method of filtering fluids. The filter unit has a generally cylindrically shaped, membrane filter body with a plurality of filter elements. An anti-telescoping connecting element at each element end joins the filter elements end to end and coaxially to one another. The joined elements are housed by a relatively rigid outer shell. A filter head at each end of the unit enables connection of the units to one another while capping the unit ends. The shell comprises a barrier tube encased by a first helically wrapped layer of a first material, and each filter head includes an adapter encapsulated by a first hoop wrapped layer of a second material. The respective layers abut one another such that a continuous, generally uniform, relatively rigid composite outer wrapped layer is formed for effectively encasing the unit. The adapter has a slot located on an interior peripheral surface for receiving a sealing member.

  • Patent number: 6551458
Abstract: In a papermaking process, filtering of white water containing fiber material is performed by feeding the white water to a filter on a surface of which a layer of auxiliary pulp has been formed, such that the white water is filtered through the layer of auxiliary pulp and fiber material in the white water remains in the layer of auxiliary pulp. The mixture of auxiliary pulp and fiber material is removed from the filter and is fed to a fractionating screen. The screen separates the mixture into a short-fibered pulp fraction that can be returned to the papermaking process, and a long-fibered pulp fraction that is returned to the filter where it is used as auxiliary pulp to form a layer on the filter surface.

The nozzles and at least a portion of the spray piping is movable such that the nozzles may be displaced relative to the discs. The nozzles and piping are arranged in groups or zones with each zone covering a specified percentage of the discs in the filter and each zone representing about 40% or less of the surface area of the filter media of the discs in the filter. Each zone is configured such that high pressure fluid may be supplied to that particular zone for removal of a precoat layer on the disc. The system may be configured so that other zones may be concurrently washed with a lower pressure fluid. The zones may be sequentially or otherwise segmentally provided with high pressure fluid until the precoat layers of each respective zone have been removed and renewed.

Abstract: A shear separation system or method uses shear lift forces and permeate drag forces to separate substances having a size less than a predetermined separation size from substances having a size greater than the separation size. The balance of the drag forces and lift forces affects a predetermined separation size in that the balance of forces reads the transmembrane passage of substances larger than the separation size yet allows substances smaller than the separation size to pass through the permeable membrane. The shear separation device, method and system can be employed to separate or concentrate from a process fluid substances larger or smaller than the predetermined separation size.
