Patent number: 6294098Abstract: In an apparatus containing rotating filter media that removes solids from a fluid stream, the invention provides devices and methods for improved cleaning of the filter media. Solids trapped on the filter media are removed by the application of a suction pressure that draws the filter media into contact with a backwash shoe. The backwash shoe has one or more orifice slots in a radially tapered or oblique angular configuration or in a combination of radially tapered and oblique angular configurations. The orifice slot configuration creates an hydraulic condition where the unit of orifice area applied per unit filter area has a generally uniform ratio across the rotating filter media. This configuration equalizes the distribution of the backwash flow over the filter area, thereby maintaining the filter media in a more uniformly clean and effective filtering condition.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2000Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: Aqua-Aerobics System, Inc.Inventor: Eugen O. Patent number: 5304304Abstract: In a rotating filter a filter cloth (18) is arranged outside a filter skeleton (34, 36). The filter cloth is provided with at least one bending resistant element (37, 38) extending through a pocket (49) arranged in or on the filter cloth (18) to restrain bulging of the filter cloth due to forces perpendicular to the plane of the filter cloth. The filter sector skeleton (34, 35, 36, 45) is provided with radially outer support and guide means (43, 44) and radially inner support and guide means (45, 46). The bending resistant element (37, 38) is at its ends adapted for detachable engagement with said means such that the ends are undisplaceable perpendicularly to the support and guide means (43, 44, 45, 46). Preferably, at least one end of the bending resistant element is displaceable in the circumferential direction of the filter sector.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1992Date of Patent: April 19, 1994Inventors: Folke Jakobson, Harry Nilsson

Patent number: 5296143Abstract: An apparatus for filtering liquids, such as fibre pulp suspensions, includes annular hollow filter discs each of which has two annular liquid pervious, opposed walls covered with filter material, spray nozzle means for cleaning the filter material, and means providing relative movement between the filter material and spray nozzle means. The annular opposed walls of each filter disc are only attached to each other at their radially outer ends, whereas they are spaced from each other at their radially inner ends, such that an annular opening is defined between the interior of the filter disc and a filtrate chamber extending centrally through the filter discs. The spray nozzle means extends from the filtrate chamber through the annular opening into each filter disc. As a result, an extremely pure fine fraction can be produced, clogging of the filtering material is efficiently counteracted, and the operative part of the filter material can be increased.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1992Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Assignee: Ingenjorsfirman R. Patent number: 5296152Abstract: A disk filter for filtering mat forming suspensions is provided with a hollow shaft for receiving a flow of fine fraction created by hydrostatic pressure difference between the suspension to be filtered and the fine fraction in the hollow shaft. According to the invention, each disc is provided with a number of fine fraction chambers communicating with the interior of the hollow shaft via respective holes in the circumferential wall of the shaft. Each chamber is arranged, such that it functions as a dropleg during movement upwards, with the result that the coarse particle (fibre) concentration of the created coarse fraction is increased.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1992Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Assignee: Ingenjorsfirman R. Patent number: 5275725Abstract: The present invention provides a flat separation membrane leaf, which is characterized by consisting of a flat membrane support comprising an inner layer having a coarse structure and surface layers comprising a nonwoven fabrics having a dense structure, wherein the surface layers are integrated with the inner layer interposed between them, and semipermeable membranes covering both sides of the support in such a manner that the semipermeable membranes penetrates into the openings of the nonwoven fabrics of the surfaces of the support to combine the semipermeable membranes with the surfaces of the support. The invention provides also a flat separation membrane element which comprises, as the essential component, the above-described flat separation membrane leaf.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1992Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Assignee: Daicel Chemical Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Kiyoshi Ishii, Yoshitada Matsumoto

Patent number: 5273651Abstract: A disc filter including at least one filter disc (3) partly submerged in a vessel (1) for liquid or suspension to be filtered, said filter disc including a plurality of substantially annularly disposed filter sectors (4) and being rotatable about a collecting through (6) for solid substance deposited on the outside of the filter sectors (4) and falling down therefrom. Each filter sector has a filtrate outlet (16) by means of which the interior of the filter sector communicates with an axial channel (8) for discharge of filtrate. The filtrate outlet (16) is arranged at the edge (22) of the filter sector (4) trailing upon rotation of the filter disc and being connected to the side (12) of the axial channel (8) leading in the direction of rotation. Hereby the filter sectors (4) may be arranged to extend radially outside as well as radially inside the axial channels (8).Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1992Date of Patent: December 28, 1993Inventor: Harry Nilsson

Patent number: 5258120Abstract: A disk filter for filtering solids from free-flowing material includes a hollow shaft and a plurality of filter segments arranged about the hollow shaft, with each filter segment including a top part and a bottom part connected to the top part such as to define a passageway for the material to be filtered. At the radial inner end face, each filter segment is detachably secured to the hollow shaft via an interposed connector assembly which includes two pipes telescopically nested within each other and detachable secured with each other via a bayonet lock or other detachable securement so as to allow each filter segment to be removed and attached from the outer end face of the filter segment. One of the pipe is mounted to the filter segment via a truncated cone shaped intermediate member and the other pipe is attached to the hollow shaft.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1991Date of Patent: November 2, 1993Assignee: Heinrich Fiedler GmbH & Co KGInventors: Waldemar R.
