Abstract: An apparatus and continuous process for making milled solid in liquid dispersions comprises several steps: 1) Forming a pre-mill mixture of pre-mix, milling media, and previously milled dispersion. 2) Milling the pre-mill mixture to form a milled mixture of milling media and milled dispersion. 3) Separating a portion of the milled dispersion, which is substantially free of milling media, from the milled mixture. 4) Recycling the un-separated mixture by adding additional pre-mix to form the pre-mill mixture to create a continuous milling process. The pre-mix comprises a liquid and a solid. The process is a continuous process and the milling media is recycled through the milling step. Much of the milled dispersion is also cycled through the milling step several times and only a portion of the milled dispersion, which is substantially free of milling media, is removed as the milled dispersion product.

Abstract: Each separator frame constitutes a single part. It is made by assembling two thermoplastic films having the shape of the seal plane and sandwiched over two different types of thermoplastic expanded structure, e.g. polyethylene grids, a first one of these structures being designed to occupy the central opening of the frame and the second type of structure being designed to occupy the diffusers. According to the invention, and prior to assembly, the first expanded structure is crushed by hot compression over its entire area apart from the central opening. This crushing reduces the thickness of the expanded structure, preferably by more than 50%. Cut-outs are formed in the first structure after it has been compressed in this way and cut-out pieces of the second expanded structure are placed therein, which pieces are themselves crushed in side strips for the purpose of retaining them in the assembly.

Abstract: The housing (2, 3, 4) of the filtering device has a cover (4), provided with a filtrate outlet (9), a cover that is detachable applied to a housing part (3) exhibiting an intake (7) for the suspension (8) to be filtered. A filter (11) is placed between housing part (3) and cover (4). A rotor (14), provided with stripping lamellae (17) for stripping the solids settling on the filter (11), rotates in the housing (2, 3). The filter (11) is formed by a flat, plane screen (11) placed perpendicular to the axis of a rotor (22). The intake (7) is aligned radially to the lamellae (17). For replacing or cleaning the filter (11), it suffices to remove the housing cover (4). The lamellae (17) are cleaned by the suspension flowing in the filtering device.

Abstract: The filtering apparatus of the invention comprises a filter housing having a water inlet and a water outlet as well as a filter bell dome connected to the housing. A main filter member and thereabove a reversing flow filter member are coaxially arranged on a filter support member located in the interior of the filter bell dome. The filter support member is spirally movable within the filter bell dome. Further, reversing flow filter member cleaning brushes and main filter member cleaning brushes are fixedly mounted in said filter bell dome. In the operating position, the passage through the reversing flow filter is obstructed such that the water to be filtered flows through the main filter member from the exterior to the interior thereof. In the backwashing position, the filter support member is spirally displaced and simultaneously obstructs the direct access to the exterior of the main filter member.

  • Patent number: 4999104
Abstract: In a disk-type decker that is employed to drain suspensions and that has axially distributed suspension chambers and filtrate chambers that are separated by rotating screen disks and open into a stationary tub, the filtrate chambers are evacuated to increase the throughput of the decker and improve and accelerate drainage. The filtrate chambers are for this purpose divided by radial and axial transverse partitions into individual filtrate-chamber sections distributed along the circumference and sealed off from one another. When the screen disks and hence the filtrate-chamber sections rotate and the sections enter into flow engagement with filtrate outlets at the bottom of the decker, they are simultaneously evacuated, accelerating drainage through the disks. The results are a higher throughput, a lower material density in the filtrate, and lower specific investment costs at the same throughput or material density in the filtrate.

  • Patent number: 4303522
Abstract: A continuous separation system intended for the recovery of solids and/or liquid contained in slurries comprises an enclosed low speed rotary screen assembly mounted between a stationary casing under vacuum and a cover provided with a fixed scraper and into which circulates dry hot air. The arrangement is such that during operation a slurry is admitted on top of the rotating screen on one side of the scraper while liquid is recovered by suction into the casing leaving the solids which are washed and then dried before being scraped off and eventually removed on the other side of the scraper. The recovered liquid is automatically degasified into the casing before being pumped out therefrom. Throughput can be varied either by adjustment of the amount of material being fed into the system, or by varying the speed of rotation of the screen assembly, or both. Provision is made for cleaning the screen during operation.

Abstract: A device and method for separating particulate material from earth drilling fluids is disclosed, wherein the earth drilling fluids containing such particulate material is introduced into a container. A major portion of the particulate material separates out of the earth drilling fluid, and the fluid then passes over a baffle and through a screen, with the movement past the screen being such, combined with the screen orientation, to provide a screen which is somewhat self-cleaning in nature. The screen is periodically scraped by carrying members, and is urged against the carrying members so that the initial contact of the carrying members with the screen causes vibrations which improve the self-cleaning characteristics of the screen. The particulate material which settles out of the drilling fluid, and the particulate material which is screened out of the drilling fluid, is collected in the bottom of the container and is removed therefrom by the carrying members up an inclined wall to a discharge point.
