  • Patent number: 6896820
Abstract: An automatic screening apparatus for removing debris from a liquid stream includes a drive mechanism mounted to a support frame. A screen connects to the support frame and collects debris while allowing the liquid to flow through. The drive mechanism positions and interchangeably couples to a first carriage assembly and a second carriage assembly. The first carriage assembly includes a rake that removes the collected debris from the screen. The second carriage assembly includes a bucket that removes the debris collected from the rake. A plunger directs the debris from the rake into the bucket. At selected intervals, the drive mechanism decouples from the first carriage assembly and couples to the second carriage assembly, whereupon the second carriage assembly is positioned to dump the bucket. After dumping the bucket, the drive shaft is decoupled from the second carriage assembly and coupled to the first carriage assembly, whereupon the cycle is repeated.

  • Patent number: 6749069
Abstract: A description is given of equipment for filtering liquids, comprising three sections superimposed coaxially and placed above a container with filter walls for collecting the filtered particles. From the top to the bottom, the first section communicates directly with the second, while the second communicates with the third sector, and the latter communicates with the container via two valves. A pump introduces the liquid to be filtered into the first section, inside a filter layer, and another pump projects a quantity of the previously filtered liquid against the filter layer from the inside of the first section. By cyclically operating the valves it is possible to continuously filter the liquid, which flows out in the filtered state from ducts which branch from the first section, even while the particles deposited in the third section are discharged into a container with filter walls which is immersed in a vessel containing the liquid to be filtered.

  • Patent number: 6475397
Abstract: A back-flushing method is practiced with a back-flushing filter construction wherein a perforate filter screen providing filter openings also forms an internal chamber for receiving the effluent from a liquid stream. A filter piston is disposed in the internal chamber and operates to divide the chamber into first and second zones on opposite sides of the piston. By selectively reciprocating the piston, the effluent in the chamber is compressed and moved on both sides of the piston. Thus, the effluent back-flushes the filter openings and creates a rolling action in the liquid surrounding the filter screen on the upstream side to dislodge particulate debris accumulated on the filter screen.

  • Patent number: 6395186
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for increasing the continuous filtering flow rate through a pressure liquid filter unit of liquid-to-be-filtered having (1) a carrier liquid, (2) coalescing solids particles which tend to adhere and bridge filter element gaps sized substantially larger than said particles and (3) larger impurity elements to be filtered out of the liquid-to-be-filtered and sized larger than such filter element gap. A pressure liquid filter unit contains a filter element having gaps, a given gap being sized to reliably pass the carrier liquid and coalescing solids particles at a first relatively low liquid flow rate, but blocking coalescing solids particles passage therethrough due to bridging of said gaps by the coalescing solids particles at a relatively high liquid flow rate.

  • Patent number: 6386752
Abstract: The present invention provides a concentration type aggregation reaction apparatus having a concentration screen, which enables an aggregation reaction to be conducted in sludge and the sludge to be concentrated by separation of a liquid by means of a single apparatus. The concentration screen is in a cylindrical form and includes slits having horizontal openings. A decelerating device is connected to an upper portion of a shaft for an agitator for agitation in the tank and brushes are connected to the decelerating device. The brushes are adapted to revolve along opposite surfaces (on a primary side and a secondary side) of the screen. By use of these brushes, aggregates adhered to the screen are continuously removed.

  • Publication number: 20010054591
Abstract: The present invention is a screening/washing/dewatering system which utilizes a solids handling pump to vacuum solids captured from a contaminated fluid stream from the system's screening mechanism and to convey them, in a concentrated form and through a closed conduit, to the washing/dewatering mechanism. The use of a solids handling pump enables a screening, washing and dewatering system to contain the captured solids in a completely closed system from their point of capture, through a conveyance system of unlimited length and configuration, to the point that the washed, dewatered screenings are finally discharged. Secondarily, the present invention offers the advantages of being able to capture as small of a solids particle size as is desirable and of providing effective washing and dewatering of the captured particles while minimizing the number of moving parts and maximizing the overall system reliability.
