The distal end of the piston has a piston flange extending outwardly and located adjacent a recess in the piston so the cup forms a snap fit over the piston flange and extends into the recess. The piston flange causes the cup to bulge sufficiently outward to form a fluid tight seal with the vial during use. A filter is placed in the bottom of the cup and abuts an inwardly extending lip on the cup. The filter is held against the lip by a piston support at the distal end of the piston. A cup support at a distal end of the cup also helps support the filter.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2012Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: Scientific Plastic Products, Inc.Inventors: Samuel A. Patent number: 8268168Abstract: A filter unit for a shower system includes a filtering housing and a filter core. The filtering housing includes a main body having a water inlet and a plurality of water outlets, wherein the water inlet is arranged to connect with the water supply tube so as to allow water to flow into the filtering housing through the water inlet, wherein one of the water outlets is connected with the second end of an extension tube of a shower head. The filter core is received in the filtering housing, and is capable of filtering unwanted substances in the water flowing from the water supply tube, wherein the filtered water is guided to flow out of the filtering housing through one of the corresponding water outlet to the extension tube and the shower head.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2009Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Inventor: Hoi Kwan Henry Mang

Publication number: 20120201938Abstract: Systems and methods remove and manage heavy metals. In one implementation, an exemplary method can be applied to food processing and food consumption to remove heavy metals such as mercury, lead, uranium and cadmium before absorption by a living organism. The exemplary method exposes the food to a heavy-metal binding ligand, such as a concentrated protein or phytic acid, to form a heavy-metal chelate, and then allows the chelate to separate from the food. In another implementation, an exemplary probe possesses innovative molecular layers on its surface to detect and quantify heavy metals by attracting and binding traces of the heavy metals on a ligand layer.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2012Publication date: August 9, 2012Inventor: ANNE SCHWARTZ

Patent number: 8225863Abstract: A modular screen system allows connection of screens using couplings that connect the annular space in each module between the screen material and the base pipe. A series of connected screens and couplings feed into a single valve to control the flow through many screens. The valve is preferably located in a coupling and the passages through the coupling or the screen can also accommodate instrumentation to detect, store or transmit well data or flows through the various screen modules.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2009Date of Patent: July 24, 2012Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Aaron C. Patent number: 8211384Abstract: A filter vial and piston are provided where the vial has a cylindrical wall with a closed bottom and open top and with the hollow, tubular piston therein. The piston has a distal end covered by a cup having a proximal cup seal extending outward to engage the walls of the vial to form a fluid tight seal with the vial during use. A cup support at a distal end of the cup also helps support the filter.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2010Date of Patent: July 3, 2012Assignee: Scientific Plastic Products, Inc.Inventors: Samuel A. Patent number: 8172091Abstract: The present invention relates to a connecting element for hydraulic circuits. The device comprises a body provided with one channel having an inlet section and an outlet section, the channel being connectable with a fluid supply line, said body being further provided with an aperture which opens, to the outside, into a seat located in the channel. The devices also comprises a filter element insertable in a removable manner into the seat, through the aperture, in order to intercept the fluid in the channel. Advantageously the filter element is defined by at least two portions, coupled with angled or radiused joints to define an internal volume, one portion having a different geometry from the other.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2008Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Assignee: Righi S.p.A.Inventor: Enzo Farace

Publication number: 20110278235Abstract: Described is a system for creating a microenvironment around a high volume water intake pipe. Specifically, a microenvironment cage incorporating fiber optics, sonar and monitoring sensors may be placed around such a pipe with the express purpose of keeping fish, wildlife and debris away from intake holes and any associated filters. The cage protects marine habitat by keeping the high intake forces away from fish and wildlife and it lowers the energy and maintenance requirements of an associated facility by only allowing water to approach the facility's intake pipe.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2010Publication date: November 17, 2011Inventor: Benjamin Blumenthal
