  • Patent number: 4369109
Abstract: A skimming net for cleaning floating debris from the surface of a pool includes the use of a frame attachable to a side portion of the pool and extending outwardly and into the liquid within the pool. A net is slidably positionable over the frame, while the frame may be tilted at a plurality of different angles so as to selectively position the net in a manner which allows a collection of debris as the liquid in the pool flows through the net. A quick disconnect assembly is provided for facilitating a removal of the frame and its net from the pool so that the debris may be removed from the net as desired.

  • Patent number: 4284505
Abstract: A membrane filter assembly is disclosed which employs at least one filter membrane and includes support means to prevent overflexing or overstressing of the filter membrane when high fluid pressures occur. The membrane support means includes a substantially co-extensive support or back-up surface spaced a small distance from the membrane to allow liquid flow therethrough but to prevent stretching or flexing beyond its elastic limit. Preferably the support surface comprises a second filter membrane in parallel flow relationship with the first to provide high flow rates during normal flow conditions but which flex together during high pressures conditions to mutually support one another and to prevent further flexure of either membrane beyond its elastic limit.

  • Patent number: 4250039
Abstract: A transmission filter has a filter envelope located inside a sealed rigid container, with an intake port and a corresponding intake opening to the interior of the filter envelope located at the bottom of the container. A suction outlet port at the top of the container conveys transmission fluid passing through the filter envelope to the suction line of the transmission system. The filter envelope is formed of thermoplastic fiber felt, with two sheets or layers of the felt being ultrasonically welded to provide a continuous fluid-tight seal for the filter envelope. Ultrasonic welding of the felt is achieved by an apparatus and method that is also useful in other types of ultrasonic welding of thermoplastic fabrics. An ultrasonic horn to be vibrated at an ultrasonic frequency is provided with a knurled surface corresponding to the area to be welded.

  • Patent number: 4229306
Abstract: A housing for single-use pressure filtration units comprises upper and lower parts. A filter element is to be clamped between the housing parts. The upper housing part, preferably molded in one piece of synthetic material, includes a plurality of radial ribs which hold the filter element down, and a baffle disk supported solely by the ribs. The disk is spaced beneath the axial inlet duct to prevent direct impingement of axially incoming pressurized fluid against the filter element. Only some of the ribs support the disk, the remaining ribs terminating short of the disk to promote uniform radial distribution of fluid deflected by the disk. Radially inner ends of the disk support ribs are inclined downwardly and inwardly and act in funnel-like fashion on the inflowing fluid.

  • Patent number: 4111807
Abstract: In accordance with the invention there is provided a mouth filter for use with pipettes to insure that none of the liquid or any of the bacteria in the liquid being drawn into the pipette reach the mouth of the technician applying the suction. The filter comprises an organic resin housing having a filter membrane therein which divides the housing into an inlet chamber and an exit chamber, the filter membrane being hydrophobic and constituting a bacteria barrier. The housing has tubular extensions extending from the oppositely disposed axial end walls thereof. A tube is secured to one extension of the housing and is adapted to be secured in communicating relationship with a pipette into which the liquid is to be drawn. Connected to the other housing extension is a mouthpiece for mouth-applied suction by the technician, which suction is communicated through the filter membrane and tube to the pipette.
