Patent number: 7311208Abstract: A filter cartridge which is environmentally friendly in that it is made up of components which are all incinerateable. The ends of a filter element are sealed using potting compound and plastic endcaps. The upper endcap, which is closed, has a pressure relief aperture associated therewith to prevent bowing. In a plugged filter condition the high downward pressure introduced on the upper endcap is compensated by providing the cartridge with centering ribs which bottom on an associated ledge in the housing to provide a positive stop for the top endcap, preventing it from being driven down into and through the filter element. Rubber gaskets are associated with the respective endcaps, and are reliably secured to the endcaps by being snap fit into grooves molded into the plastic of the endcaps. The lower endcap utilizes a simple radial seal gasket which is both highly effective and also positioned to avoid structural crushing forces on the cartridge. A keying system prevents the installation of improper filters.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2006Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: Baldwin Filters, Inc.Inventors: Gene W. Brown, Steven J. Patent number: 7172694Abstract: The filter assembly is adapted for use in filtering fluid flow in turbomachinery. The filter assembly includes a cylindrical housing, and a filter element disposed within the housing. The housing is adapted for fluid connection to a turbomachine. The filter element is adapted to filter fluid passing to the turbomachine. The filter element includes a fluid permeable core element defining a central core element flow channel through the filter element, a fluid permeable ion exchange resin layer disposed about the core element and adapted to remove mineral and organic acids from the fluid passing through the filter element, and a pleated filter media disposed about the ion exchange resin layer and core element. In another embodiment, the filter element has the pleated filter media disposed about the core element, and the fluid permeable ion exchange resin layer disposed about the core element and pleated filter media.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2004Date of Patent: February 6, 2007Assignee: Schroeder Industries, LLCInventor: Christopher B Bortnik

Patent number: 7168573Abstract: A filter cartridge which is environmentally friendly in that it is made up of components which are all incinerateable. The ends of a filter element are sealed using potting compound and plastic endcaps. The upper endcap, which is closed, has a pressure relief aperture associated therewith to prevent bowing. In a plugged filter condition the high-downward pressure introduced on the upper endcap is compensated by providing the cartridge with centering ribs which bottom on an associated ledge in the housing to provide a positive stop for the top endcap, preventing it from being driven down into and through the filter element. A keying system prevents the installation of improper filters.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2003Date of Patent: January 30, 2007Assignee: Baldwin Filters, Inc.Inventors: Gene W. Brown, Steven J. Merritt

Patent number: 7135052Abstract: A cartridge filter includes a folded package including filter material and a frame holding the folded package. The frame includes a plurality of profiled strips having identical profiles, and each having two ends. The frame also includes a plurality of corner joints, each disposed at an end of a respective profiled strip. Each corner joint includes an end cap for engaging pair wise with an end cap of an adjacent one of the plurality of corner pieces.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2002Date of Patent: November 14, 2006Assignee: Carl Freudenberg KGInventors: Michael Meierhoefer, Renate Tapper, Thomas Caesar, Heiko Knust, Thorsten Schmitt, Norbert Kuck, Rainer Kaffenberger

Patent number: 7132049Abstract: The present invention provides, in certain embodiments, a negatively charged microporous membrane comprising a porous substrate and a crosslinked coating having fixed negative charges. The crosslinked coating can be prepared, e.g., from a polymerized composition comprising an unsaturated monomer having an anionic group, an N-(hydroxymethyl)- and/or N-(alkoxymethyl)-acrylamide, a hydrophilic unsaturated monomer, and an initiator. The present invention further provides, in some embodiments, a negatively charged microporous membrane comprising a porous substrate and a crosslinked coating prepared from a polymerized composition comprising an unsaturated monomer having an anionic group, an N-(hydroxymethyl)- or N-(alkoxymethyl)-acrylamide, a polysaccharide, and an initiator. The membranes of the present invention are suitable for use in ion exchange chromatography, for example, in the separation and purification of positively charged species such as proteins.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2005Date of Patent: November 7, 2006Assignee: Pall CorporationInventors: Chung-Jen Hou, Peter Konstantin, Yujing Yang

Patent number: 7128835Abstract: A fluid treatment element for treating a fluid flowing through the element comprises a first conductive layer and a second conductive layer electrically connected to the first conductive layer. The element further comprises a nonconductive porous treatment medium between the first and second conductive layers. The first and second conductive layers are positioned to offset electrical imbalances caused by fluid flowing through the nonconductive porous treatment medium.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: October 31, 2006Assignee: Pall CorporationInventors: Ronald D. Patent number: 7125490Abstract: A filter has a longitudinal axis with an inner diameter defined by a hollow longitudinally extending center. The filter has fingers extend radially outwardly arcuately from the longitudinal axis. The fingers have base ends near the longitudinal axis and outer edges at extremities spaced from the longitudinal axis. The outer diameter of the filter is defined by the outer edges of the fingers. The filter is formed from a sintered porous molded thermoplastic or another material resulting in a filter more rigid than standard filters. The fingers are spaced apart from one another a predetermined, substantially fixed distance to form slots therebetween sized to capture contaminants therein.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2003Date of Patent: October 24, 2006Assignee: Porex CorporationInventors: Michael Andrew Clendenning, Thomas Henry Ramsey, Tripp Augustus Avett, Timothy Allen Martin

Patent number: 7125434Abstract: A deep gradient-density filter device capable of effectively filtering a fluid containing a distribution of particles in the range of approximately 25 microns to approximately 0.2 micron at a fluid velocity of at least approximately 100 cm/hr and an initial hydraulic permeability of greater than approximately 10 cm/hr/psi. The deep gradient-density filter device includes several layers of filtration material, each having specific predetermined particle retention properties. In one product embodiment, the deep gradient-density filter device uses “loose” fibrillated cellulose fiber material as a primary filter element. In a method aspect, the deep gradient-density filter device is used for either the secondary clarification of industrial-scale volumes of cultured or fermented protein-containing biopharmaceutical fluids or the primary clarification of pilot-scale volumes.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2002Date of Patent: October 24, 2006Assignee: Millipore CorporationInventors: David P.
