Including Movement Of Filter During Filtration Patents (Class 210/780)
  • Patent number: 12228391
Abstract: A rotary pressure filter, comprising a filter drum and a housing. A sensor is attached to the housing and emits light through a light-permeable section of the housing in the direction of a filter cake. The sensor receives light reflected from the filter cake through the light-permeable section of the housing. A processing unit compares properties of the emitted light with those of the received light and determines an absolute thickness of the filter cake and/or a change in the thickness of the filter cake over a pre-determined time. The invention further relates to a corresponding method.

  • Patent number: 11638903
Abstract: Enhanced cleaning of a fouled membrane is achieved via controlled deformation in a method wherein a feed composition, comprising a solvent and dissolved components, flows into a retentate side of a membrane module. The solvent passes through the membrane from the retentate side to a permeate or draw side of the membrane module while retaining the dissolved components on the membrane. As a foulant accumulates on either side of the membrane, a driving force is generated across the membrane, wherein the membrane responds cyclically by deforming back and forth toward the permeate or draw side and toward the retentate side. The foulant is dislodged from the membrane via mechanical fatigue at the foulant-membrane interface caused by the deformation of the membrane and contact with a spacer in contact with the membrane.

  • Patent number: 9816191
Abstract: Known phosphorus recovery methods from liquid phases proceed from the presence of ammonia or nitrate, and phosphate, in the liquid phase. Wastewater that is supposed to be freed of nitrate and phosphate pollution in sewage treatment facilities can be used as the liquid phase. In electrochemical methods, a magnesium electrode is used as a sacrificial anode, and ammonium and phosphate together are bound to the magnesium to form struvite, which in turn can be used in agriculture as a fertilizer, in useful manner. In an alternative method of procedure, first, only phosphates are removed from a liquid phase that occurs from the filtration of products of hydrothermal carbonization. A magnesium electrode is used as the cathode, so that the resulting magnesium phosphate does not go into solution and first must be precipitated, but rather is removed from the electrolysis cell directly with the cathode, after the reaction occurs.

Abstract: A separator system for separating feed material into a liquid component and a solids component. The separator system has a roller system supported adjacent to a feed chamber. The roller system comprises a base roller and a press roller. Base perforations are formed in the base roller. The base roller is supported such that a first portion of the base roller is in contact with the feed material within the feed chamber such that a liquids portion of the feed material may flow through the perforations in the base roller. The base roller is rotated such that the base roller removes a solids portion of the feed material from the feed chamber in a solids mat on the surface of the base roller. The press roller engages the solids mat on the base roller to force liquids in the solids mat through the base perforations in the base roller.

Abstract: A system for dewatering a stream of slurry has a first and a second separator. The first separator removes objects above a first size, to produce a stream of primary treated slurry. The second separator removes objects above a second size from the primary treated stream, the second size being smaller than the first size. Optionally, a third separator removes objects above a yet smaller third size from the stream of secondary treated slurry. The first separator has a plurality of sieve mat supports alternately connected to a main support frame section and a movable support frame section so that the flexible sieve mat can be agitated by the movable support frame section, a collector being provided for collecting the primary treated slurry passing through the flexible sieve mat. In an optional step, water contained in the separated solids is removed.

A series of specific unit operations result in the extraction of hydrocarbons, solids and contaminants and the treatment of water to a condition which is fit for re-use or environmentally sustainable discharge. Phase separation between the water and hydrocarbons is effected using flotation techniques followed by collection of the hydrocarbons using a movable collection surface. The aqueous phase is processed by multiple filtration steps. The result is significant extraction and recovery of hydrocarbons and conservation of water for re-use or discharge to the environment in a process which is continuous and scalable for large or small operations.
