Rotating Drum Patents (Class 210/784)
  • Patent number: 7293659
Abstract: A drum structure for corrugated type rotary filters has relatively high filtering efficiency and relatively low manufacturing and/or installation costs. More specifically, a corrugated deck section is rigidly connected to a rotary drum structure by means of solid non-apertured divider grids which establish a drain channel. The drain channel is subdivided into respective compartments by means of intermediate solid non-apertured grids which are unconnected to the corrugated deck, but provide subjacent radial support thereto. Drainage slits are provided in the corrugated deck in alignment with each of the compartments. Plug dams are provided in the corrugation spaces between the upper edge of the intermediate grids and the lower corrugated deck surface so as to prevent substantially filtrate flow between individual compartments.

  • Patent number: 6332984
Abstract: An integrated system for diverting and reducing the size of waste materials in an effluent stream comprising a frame having a bottom housing and a top housing and mountable in the stream. A grinder unit is mounted to the frame bottom housing and comprises a cutter assembly positioned in the stream and a drive mechanism coupled to the cutter assembly to rotate the cutter assembly. The drive mechanism may be electric or hydraulic. A diverter unit is mounted to the frame. It may be a single diverter or dual diverters. The diverter unit comprises a cylindrical drum rotating on a stub shaft. It may also be a helical coil. A drive assembly operably couples the drive mechanism to the drum shaft to rotate the cylindrical drum as the cutter assembly rotates. In operation the diverter unit is positioned side by side to the grinder unit to diverts solids in the effluent stream toward the grinder unit for size reduction. Side rails are employed for flow control around both the diverter unit and the grinder unit.

  • Patent number: 6270684
Abstract: A screening device useful in water and waste water treatment plants separates fluid flow into two streams. The screening device is perforated so that solids having a predetermined cross-section will be maintained within a first fluid stream, and a portion of the fluid flow that has been screened of solids will flow into a second split-off fluid flow. The streams may go to different locations; only the first stream need be processed for the solids. The screening device is preferably cylindrical or another surface of rotation or a section of such a surface, and rotates. These features help maintain the screening device free of solids, and supplemental cleaning devices may also be used.

  • Patent number: 6267889
Abstract: The invention relates to a filter assembly for producing a paste-like filter cake and a substantially solids free filtrate or permeate. The filter assembly includes a substantially cylindrical member having an exterior foraminous surface, the cylindrical member being mounted on an elongate shaft for rotating the surface about an axis defined by the shaft. The exterior foraminous surface is covered by a microporous filter media. A stationary housing is positioned adjacent a portion of the exterior surface of the cylindrical member. The stationary housing includes a filter feed inlet and a sealing device and is spaced from the exterior surface a distance sufficient to enable cross flow relative to the filter media. Unique filter seal members promote retention of fluid to be filtered in a filtration area defined by the housing and cylindrical member. As the cylindrical member is rotated about the axis, a cake removal or membrane cleaning device removes filter cake from the filter media.

Abstract: An apparatus for de-watering sludge. A main shaft is rotated about a longitudinal axis at a first rate. A screw shaft coupled to the main shaft is rotated about the longitudinal axis at the first rate. Screw flighting coupled to the screw shaft is rotated about the longitudinal axis at the first rate. A first and second stage drum are rotated about the longitudinal axis at a second rate. Sludge is introduced to a first area defined by an outer surface of the screw shaft and an inner surface of the first stage drum. Moisture is removed from the sludge through a first slot coupled to the first stage drum. The sludge is transported with the screw flighting from the first area to a second area defined by an outer surface of the screw shaft and an inner surface of the second stage drum, the second area being larger than the first area. Moisture is removed from the sludge through a second slot coupled to the second stage drum.

Abstract: An auxiliary filter for removing residual particles from already filtered cutting fluids used in metal cutting machines, the auxiliary filter including a hollow wheel member rotated in a sealed tank into which the filtered liquid flows. Pressurized liquid passes through a fine screen on the perimeter of the rotating wheel to capture any residual particles. A high pressure backwash jets are directed at the screen as it rotates past an array of nozzles, and a collection trough draws any dislodged material away and out of the tank.

  • Patent number: 6183653
Abstract: An apparatus for removing sludge is applied to a generally cylindrical filter for use in an electric discharge machine. The filter removes sludge in a process solution used in the electric discharge machine by flowing the process solution from an inner periphery surface to an outer periphery surface and/or the outer periphery surface to the inner periphery surface of the filter. A filter support device holds the filter rotatively with the central axis thereof as the central figure and inclining the central axis by a predetermined angle to the horizontal direction. The filter support device also includes cams for providing rotational driving force and successive impactive force to the filter. A motor provides rotational driving force to the cams. Sludge storage may receive the sludge falling from the filter. The filter support device may further alternate the inclined direction of the filter in a predetermined cycle by rotating with an axis perpendicular to the central axis as the central figure.

  • Patent number: 6177022
Abstract: A self-cleaning fuel oil strainer, coupled to a continuous fuel flow, that includes a pair of canisters, each having a cylindrical wedge wire fuel oil filter screen. An elongated brush running the length of the screen is disposed between two confining walls also running the length of the screen to form a chamber. A elongated partition, including two sets of apertures, is used, along with the elongated brush, to divide the chamber into two particulate dislodge chambers and a drain subchamber. A drain is in fluid communication with the drain subchamber. During cleaning, the drain is opened and the screen is rotated against the brush for liberating the particulate contaminants and a limited amount of fuel oil into the two dislodge subchambers. The particulate contaminants and the limited amount of fuel oil then pass through the apertures at a high velocity and into the drain subchamber which exits through the drain.

  • Patent number: 6136202
Abstract: A system for filtering fluids uses the pressure differential across a filter element between an internal filter volume and an external filter volume to control the rate of fluid flow through the filter element. The internal filter volume communicates with a backwash volume contained in the external filter volume. The backwash volume may be movable relative to the filter element to clean accumulated filtrate from the filter element through backwashing. By increasing the pressure in the internal filter volume, the rate of backwashing can be increased while the rate of fluid flow into the internal filter volume is decreased. Particularly when the filter element becomes clogged, damage to a filter caused by an excessive pressure differential across the filter element may be decreased.
