  • Patent number: 4997578
Abstract: An apparatus for dewatering and squeezing a water containing material comprises a drum with a sieve mantle defining two co-operating drum sections, each comprising a feed screw extending therein. The first section of the drum in the feed direction is formed for dewatering of the material mainly by self-drainage. The first drum section is rotatable and is provided with means for cleaning the sieve mantle holes. The second section is formed for increased compression of the material, and has a thread height for the feed screw smaller at the outlet of the second section than at the inlet to this section.

  • Patent number: 4995988
Abstract: Method and drum filter for thickening of slurry and for treatment of the slurry with liquid. The slurry to be thickened is passed onto the filter face of a drum (3) revolving in a basin (3), and the treatment liquid is passed through the pulp web formed on the drum. The consistency of the pulp web is increased by pressing a compression plate (10) against the pulp web. The compression force of the compression plate (10) is produced by means of the pressure of a liquid and/or gas passed to the convex side of the plate. The compression force can be adjusted by adjusting the pressure prevailing in the gas space outside the drum (3).

  • Patent number: 4927529
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for separating knots from a fibre suspension in the wood processing industry. A known problem in the prior art has been the quick wear of the screen surface of the knotter when the screen surface has been profiled. On the other hand the ability to separate with an unprofiled screen has not been satisfactory. When using a profiled screen cylinder (5), it has been noticed in performed tests that it is preferable to feed the pulp from the connections (2) in the direction of rotation of the screen cylinder and also to discharge the reject from connections (4) and the accept from the connections (3) in the direction of rotation of the cylinder (5). Accordingly, there is not only less wear of the screen surface, but also a significantly smaller consumption of power per pulp ton than in the prior art apparatuses.

Abstract: A fully submerged rotatable drum type of filter has a perforate cylindrical surface through which contaminated liquid is pulled by a suction pump. The inner periphery of the drum is sub-divided into numerous narrow, shallow, elongated chambers open at one end for communication with a main chamber which conveys filtered liquid to a port in the non-rotatable tube upon which the drum is rotatably mounted. A backwashing system for cleaning the perforate surface of the drum comprises a non-rotating channel which establishes sliding and sealing contact with a limited number of the open ends of the peripheral chambers to cause pressurized filtered backwashing liquid to flow into such peripheral chambers to remove filter cake from the perforate surface by the reverse flow therethrough. Filtration can therefore proceed through a majority of the peripheral chambers simultaneously with the backwashing operation through the limited number of peripheral chambers in communication with the backwashing system.

  • Patent number: 4402834
Abstract: A process of dewatering sludge in which raw sludge and a flocculating agent are first mixed by suitable means, then fed into a rotary filter drum or similar device to effect thickening of the sludge and partial dewatering thereof. The now thickened sludge is then conveyed through a filtering assembly in which the sludge is subjected to further dewatering forces, which could be vacuum, centrifugal, static pressure, or pressure while moving along the filter surfaces, thereby further dewatering the sludge. The filtrate discharged from the filter drum and the filtering assembly and also wash water used for cleaning the filter surfaces in the filter drum and the filtering assembly are at least partly returned to the filter drum to effect total flocculation and recapture of sludge particles contained in the filtrate and the wash waters.

  • Patent number: 4343708
Abstract: A method and equipment for thickening various suspensions, such as, e.g., pulp slurry, waste waters, or mineral sediments. The sludge or slurry is passed into a basin in which a filter unit rotates as partly submerged in the sludge or slurry. The thickened sludge or pulp web is gathered onto the surface of the filter unit from the sludge or the slurry in the basin. The sludge or slurry is passed from the basin to above the sludge or slurry level. In order to pre-thicken the sludge or slurry, part of the liquid contained therein is removed through a wall located between the feeding-in point of the sludge or slurry and the surface level of the sludge or slurry.

  • Patent number: 4279760
Abstract: The present invention utilizes a closed-type vessel comprising a filtering chamber, at least one perforated filter cylinder a portion of which is positioned within the filtering chamber, said filter cylinder being rotatable at any desired speed and having a filtering surface covered with a filter cloth, and a squeezing roll and sealing roll which engage with said filter cylinder through the filter cloth at all times to define a sealing and operating wall. Any sewage to be treated is supplied under pressure to the filtering chamber and filtered through the filter cloth at the filtering surface of the filter cylinder. Filter cake deposited on the filter cloth is continuously transferred to the outer periphery of the squeeze roll and then separated therefrom outside the filtering chamber by any suitable means such as a scraper.

  • Patent number: 4268396
Abstract: An oil recovery apparatus and method, particularly for removing oil and grease from the discharge of dishwashing machines or the like, provides a small size assembly employing the same principle as in U.S. Pat. No. 4,051,024. This apparatus and method employs single rotating discs of plastic or plastic coated material and each disk has a pair of scraper blades arranged to scrape opposite sides of the rotating blade. Exterior of the container for the oil recovery apparatus is at least one filter basket adapted to receive the flow into the strainer container of large particles of food and other waste such as cigarette butts and the like. Each filter is disposed for the ready cleaning of accumulated matter from the basket. There is shown plural filters, valve controlls, auxiliary heating and disc support means to be more fully described.

  • Patent number: 4248709
Abstract: The method of treating sewer scum including combustibles and debris includes the steps of collecting the scum from sewage, delivering it to a perforated filter drum, continuously rotating the drum upon an inclined longitudinal axis, applying heated air under pressure to the exterior of the drum along its length inwardly of the perforations, discharging the debris continuously and collecting the filtered combustibles. Apparatus for filtering said scum includes an elongated cylindrical perforated drum rotatable on an inclined axis receiving scum at its upper end and discharging debris at its lower end. A cylindrical shell sealingly encloses the perforated portion of the drum for providing a pressure chamber above the drum and a collection chamber below the drum. An elongated air channel along the interior of the shell delivers high pressure heated air to said pressure chamber and filtered scum accumulates in the collection chamber.
