The tapered flanges of the beam are notched so as to form an internal corner, into which an external corner of the column is fittable. The bolted connection uses a conventional bolt and a special nut, which has a flange-engaging surface conforming to a curved surface where one of the tapered flanges of the column meets the web of the column. Upon relative movement of the column and the beam as the bolt and the nut are tightened, the flange-engaging surface cams the last-mentioned flange against adjacent edges of the notched flanges, thereby to assemble the beam and the column with the external corner fitted tightly into the internal corner.

  • Patent number: 5016765
Abstract: A frame assembly made from modular components includes a first frame member, a tubular post member with a work opening in its side wall to permit the post interior to be fixed to the frame exterior, and a second frame member axially mountable over the post. A spring button extending through aligned apertures in the tubular post and second frame members releasably locks the second frame member to the post. A method for constructing a product from a frame assembly includes defining a work opening in a tubular post wall, fixing the post interior to the exterior of a frame member by working through the opening, mounting a tubular frame member axially onto the post and releasably locking it to the post by way of a spring button positioned within the post. A stand made from the frame assembly may include lower and upper frame subassemblies joined by tubular column members extending between the subassemblies and onto respective opposed lower and upper tubular posts attached thereto.

  • Patent number: 5014861
Abstract: The modular system comprises plural components adapted to be joined to each other by supporting and retaining members and to be mounted on stands at any desired level above ground. It is intended to further develop the modular system such that its versatility in respect of the provision and adaptation of working-place equipment is substantially improved, while at the same time the number of basic elements necessary for assembly is reduced. This is achieved in that each retaining member forms at least one multi-part combinable nodal-point body having at least one through-bore, the plane or planes of division of said body extending through said through-bores, and in that each supporting member is rod-like or a plate-like structural body adapted to be inserted into the bipartite through-bore of the nodal-point body and to be securely joined thereto by clampingly joining the individual parts of the nodal-point body.

  • Patent number: 5012938
Abstract: A frame type, heavy duty storage rack corner post is formed of sheet metal which is bent into a rear wall, integral side walls and front wall sections that are spaced apart to form a central slot extending the height of the post. The free edges of the front wall sections are bent outwardly to form a pair of parallel base walls which terminate in oppositely extending flanges, so that the front wall sections, base walls and flanges form oppositely opening, aligned vertically extending channels along the height of the post. The channel base walls are provided with a series of holes, with the holes in one aligned horizontally with the holes in the other. The channels are of a width to snugly receive a nut so that a screw may be inserted through a pair of aligned holes and threadedly engaged with the nut for turning the screw while the nut is held stationary by the channel walls.

  • Patent number: 4896992
Abstract: The mounting frame arrangement is assembled from profile frame sections and connectors and is used for control panel assemblies, for component racks and holders, in household wiring, for equipment cabinets, and the like. On the four-sided (preferably square) hollow profile, one side has a longitudinal slit and at least the two adjoining sides each have openings opposite one another and distributed at regular intervals. The disconnectable connectors have two pairs of legs opposite one another and spaced apart by an adjustable distance, which are insertable in a form-locking manner into the interior of the profile. By being spread apart by spreader devices, the legs are made to contact opposed inside walls of the profile. At the same time, as locking means for preventing longitudinal displacement, detent protrusions come to engage the openings. A transverse groove for the same purpose is also possible on the outsides of the legs and on the inside of the profile.
