Abstract: This invention is directed towards improvements in snap hinge dispensing closures for molded plastic bottles. In particular, snap hinge closures of single walled construction are provided with means for positively aligning with the front of the bottle, and a relatively deeper thumb recess for facilitating lifting of a snap hinge closure lid. Means are also disclosed to prevent reverse rotation of the closure once positive alignment is achieved. Other disclosed features include a plug to prevent leakage of the bottle contents and means for preventing axial pivoting of the closure.

Abstract: The closure consists of a lower part (1) and a cap (2), which are connected to each other by at least one film hinge (3). Spring elements (4) integrally formed from the jacket walls of the two closure parts are disposed on both sides of the film hinge (3). The thickness of the spring elements (4) varies between the shoulder points (5) of the spring elements. In the area of the shoulder points the thickness is approximately the same as the wall thickness of the jacket walls, and in the center, that is, in the area extending over the plane of separation, it is considerably less. The variation of the wall thickness permits a customer-specific adaptation of the snap action of the closure without having to make it in a completely new way every time.

Abstract: A closure cap with a stock base cap including a hinged cap is provided for cosmetics, toiletries and similar products. The hinged cap includes an annular wall with a partition perpendicular thereto thereby forming an upwardly facing recess to receive ornamental inserts of different colors, textures and shapes.

Abstract: A tamper-indicating device is provided for use with two relatively movable parts. In a preferred embodiment, the device is incorporated in a tamper-evident closure having a closure body and a cover for engaging the body in a closed position. A resilient member is carried within the cover, and a releasable retaining structure is provided for holding the resilient member in a maximally deformed first orientation within the cover when the cover is in the closed position. When the cover is opened, the resilient member is released so as to assume a less deformed orientation. The cover includes an inspection means for permitting visual inspection of the released resilient member to indicate that the cover has been moved away from the initially closed position.

Abstract: A single service container having a hollow body and a cap with a portion extending interiorly of the body. The cap is mounted to seal a wide mouth style of opening formed at the upper end of the body. Interiorly of the mouth, a portion of the cap extends downwardly so as to cooperate with the positive internal pressure of the container and assist in sealing the cap on the body. A conical ring is formed on the periphery of the dome and engages an undercut interior surface adjacent to the mouth. The container further includes means for sealingly engaging the perimeter of the mouth. To open the container, a pulling member is pulled thereby severing the sealing engagements between the cap and the mouth, releasing the internal pressure and opening the container.

Abstract: A stoppering device non-removably attached to the flanged neck of a container has a base (8) projecting beyond the neck of the container, with at least two arcuate surface sections extending from the base and disposed along a circle having a diameter slightly greater than that of the outer surface of the flanged neck (5). Each arcuate surface section (16) is extended on at least one of its sides in the circumferential direction by a locking foot (17). Each foot is integral with the arcuate surface at the end of the section opposite to the base (8) and is inclined inward from the end integral with the arcuate surface section (16) to a free end of the foot located toward the base (8). Each foot abuts the flanged neck (5) and holds the stoppering device securely onto the container.

Abstract: A vial cap of plastic having a skirt portion press fit onto the neck of a vial. A transversely extending wall having a central opening is integral with the upper end portion of the skirt, and a sealing disc is positioned between the open end of the vial and the transverse wall. A plastic lid having a plastic hinge integrally connected between the lid and the skirt is provided for closing the central opening of the cap during storage. By the construction and arrangement of the plastic vial cap, the fear of aluminum toxicity is overcome and the lid prevents the accumulation of dust and other debris on the sealing disc while the vial is in storage.

Abstract: A spooning closure generally comprising a skirt a top, a spooning opening and a hinged spooning lid which is adapted to pivot from a closed position to an open spooning position. Two locking means are provided, one of which is adapted to securely and releasably lock the spooning lid in the closed position and the other of which is adapted to securely and releasably lock the spooning lid in an open spooning position. The lock to hold the spooning lid in the open position is a combination of a spooning lid tongue and a friction engaging slot. The lock to hold the spooning lid closed includes an arcuate latch projection which extends at an acute angle to the spooning lid bottom surface and a cooperating keeper which partially defines the spooning opening and is formed by an arcuate cantilever. Also provided is a reinforcing web extending from the bottom of the spooning lid.

Abstract: A snap-on closure for wide mouth containers has an integral hinged lid which can be lifted, as by the thumb, to provide access for spooning contents out of the mouth. The lid closes on a top flange which is presented by either the closure or the container. The closure has a skirt and snaps onto the container below the top flange or to an attachment bead on the container.

Abstract: A closure of plastic, especially polypropylene, for the necks of containers, especially bottles. The outer wall (8) of the closure flares lengthwise of the neck from the top end of the closure down to a circumferential line (29) of maximum size and tapers again toward the bottom end of the closure. The bottom part (2) and lid (26) of the closure are joined together by a snap hinge (28). This snap hinge is integral with the bottom part and lid and is situated in their outer walls. The depth of the main part (26.1) of the lid (26) is substantially less than the difference in level of the closure between its circumferential line (29) of maximum size and its upper end. For its connection to the snap hinge (28) the lid has an arm (26.3) on one side. The active elements of the snap hinge are disposed symmetrically with the circumferential line (29). This closure has a lid of relatively small size and can be made with a two-part injection mold which does not need to have any lateral slides.

Abstract: A closure is provided for use on a container. The closure includes a body for being mounted to the container over the container opening and defines a dispensing orifice. A separate lid is mounted on the body for pivoting between a closed position and an open position. A resiliently deformable biasing member extends from the lid and has a distal end for engaging the body. Restraining walls are provided on the body for restraining the distal end of the biasing member whereby the biasing member is most stressed when the lid is at an over center position between the open and closed positions to thereby bias the lid toward one of the open and closed positions.

Abstract: A container (1) having a lid part (4) which is pivotally connected to the container by means of a pivot device (6), and which is provided with a handle part (5) which extends from the pivot device (6) in a direction opposite to the direction in which the lid part (4) extends. The container has a bottom and an outer surface which extends from the bottom, and presents at the end of the surface remote from the bottom a neck portion (2) which is terminated with an opening. The container is characterized in that the pivot device (6) can be moved circumferentially around the neck portion (2) so that when closing the lid part (4), the handle part (5) is moved from a position in which it extends essentially contiguous with the container surface to another position in which the handle part (5) is spaced further from the container surface.

Abstract: A toggle-acting dispensing closure which is resistant to premature actuation of said actuator during shipping and handling prior to purchase, and which provides evidence that access has been gained to the contents of the associated container. A removable tear tab means is provided on the closure actuator or on the body of the closure which interferes initially with the pivoting of the actuator on the body. The tear tab means is frangibly connected to the actuator or body and is positioned between the body and actuator adjacent the actuator finger pad.

Abstract: A screw on container closure has a hinged flap on a dispensing aperture for spooning out product. The flap and aperture have a sealing flash structure that provides a moisture resistant seal therebetween. An integral resilient sealing flange within the closure provides a moisture-resistant seal on the mouth of a container.

Abstract: Disclosed is a package having a closure which provides child resistance with optional easy opening and closing features. The closure is permanently but rotatably attached to the container finish, and is held on the container by snap engagement with the container or with an adapter which is separately attached to the container. The closure has a depending skirt which encircles a latching flange on the container or on the adaptor. A hinged lid on the closure has a latch which is latchable beneath the latching flange only if the closure is turned to a position such that the latch is aligned with a latch slot in the latching flange. Rotation of the closure relative to the slot, once the latch has been engaged through the slot, locks the lid against opening.

Abstract: A two-piece, snap-action closure includes a body and a separate lid. A biasing member is provided on the body to engage the rear portion of the lid to bias the lid to the full closed position or to the full open position from a bistable over center point. In a preferred embodiment, the biasing member is a cantilevered tab. In another embodiment the biasing member is a resiliently flexible member that presents a convex configuration toward the lid in the closed position. In one embodiment, the lid is pivotally mounted to the body with pivot members having oppositely facing flat sides which are received in rectangular receiving apertures. In another embodiment, the pivot members are cylindrical and are received in semi-cylindrical receiving apertures. In a preferred form of the closure, an angled cam surface is provided on the body to guide each pivot member into the receiving apertures.

Abstract: A unitary shielded snap type hinge closure including a cap body portion adapted to be secured to a container having a dispending opening therein. The cap body portion includes a top portion raised above a shoulder and a periphery therearound and includes a mating portion. A lid is hinged to the cap body by a solid one-piece unitary hinge member integrally formed between the cap body and the lid, the hinge member being attached on one side directly to the lid and on an opposite side to the cap body by a film hinge and including a central planar portion.

Abstract: A two piece dispensing closure for a container having an internally threaded base with a dispensing orifice in the front section and an elevated rear land that has a pivot recess adapted to receive a separate lid that rotates at least 90.degree. from the closed position. The front section of the lid is generally circular with a pivot post at its rear, and when closed the upper surfaces of the lid and base are coplanar.

Abstract: The invention relates to a closure cap for a bottle or like containers, having an internally-threaded cylindrical part for screwing onto an externally threaded bottleneck, and with a sealing member, separate from the cylindrical part and connected to the cylindrical part, being provided with an annular sealing surface to abut upon the mouth of the bottleneck. The sealing member pivots around a rotational axis which is located in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the cylindrical part, and located radially inwards of the annular sealing surface. By unscrewing the screw-type closure cap, the disc-like sealing member tilts, thus allowing the contents of the bottle to be poured out without the screw-type closure cap being completely screwed off. Thus, the cap is prevented from falling down and being soiled, or from getting lost. By opening the screw-type closure cap to different extent, it is, moreover, possible to adjust the cross-section for the outflow and, thus, to control the quantity delivered.

Abstract: The application describes a closure for a container, the closure comprising a first part to be mounted on the container and a second part pivotally connected to the first part to close upon the first part. First tamper-evident means are provided between the two parts and a catch is provided on one of the parts. The catch is movable between a first neutral position and a second position in which it can connect with the other part, the catch in its second position forming second tamper-evident means. The catch is preferably provided on the second part and it is pivotable between its said two positions.

Abstract: A tamper-resistant dispensing structure including a closure for selectively closing an opening in a wall forming a portion of a container. Retaining structure is provided for maintaining the closure in association with the wall and with a stopper portion thereof maintained suitably for accurate fit with the opening in the wall during a closing operation. A flange is provided on the container for controlling the lateral disposition of the closure on the wall. In one form of the closure, the container flange is turned to cause the distal end thereof to retain the periphery of the closure against the wall.

Abstract: An injection-molded plastic dispensing cap providing a semicircular spoon opening through which spoonfuls of the contents of an associated container can be removed. The cap provides a hinged flap for closing the opening which is hinged to the body and movable between an open position and a closed position. The cap provides an inwardly extending lip along the periphery of the opening. A rib is formed on the flap to closely fit the lip along the opening when the flap is in the closed position. Projecting from the rib is a latch projection fitting under the lip to secure the flap in the closed position. The lip is provided with a central recess bridged by the latch projection. The lip and the latch cooperate to provide spaced and opposed latching portions which are relatively insensitive to variations in the torque applying the cap to an associated container and which are not adversely affected by removal of the cap from its mold while the cap is still relatively hot.

Abstract: A dispensing closure having a base ring with means for attachment to a container which permits rotation of the ring without axial movement. A lid is connected to the base ring by a hinge which allows the lid to be swung from a closed position blocking access to a container opening to an open dispensing position. A cam element on the lid effects initial movement of the lid towards an open position when the base ring is rotated. The lid cam element cooperates with a cam surface on the container. A fitment can also be used to attach the closure to a flat can top or to other container configurations. When a fitment is used, the cam surface will be on the fitment rather than the container.

Abstract: A shake-and-spoon cap for condiment containers and the like is formed of a one-piece injection-molded body. The cap provides a cylindrical skirt having inwardly projecting thread forms for mating with the male threads of a condiment container or the like. Two flaps are provided for selectively opening and closing a spoon opening and a plurality of shaker openings. The cap is structured so that the exposed end of the cap is a circular, planar surface when the flaps are closed. A sealing land inwardly spaced and concentric with the skirt is positioned to seal with the mouth of a container. The interior and exterior surfaces of the end wall are contoured so that substantially the entire cap has a uniform wall thickness. Peripherally spaced, radially extending ribs stiffen the cap between the land and the skirt to resist deflection and to ensure that the flap latching structure functions reliably.

Abstract: A bottle holder comprises a handle manually graspable by a user, a cap remover carried by the handle for receiving, gripping and removing the cap of the bottle, an attachment member fixed to the handle, open at one end, and having internal threads at the opposite end for threading onto the external threads of the bottle neck, a closure pivotally mounted to the attachment member either to a closed position closing its open end or to an open position, and an operator carried by the handle and mechanically coupled to the closure to enable the operator, when operated by the user, to move the closure to either its open position or to its closed position with respect to the open end of the attachment member.

Abstract: An inexpensive reusable insulated jacket for removably receiving an open beverage can therewith, and to maintain its contents in refrigerated condition, having a cover for preventing windblown sand and other foreign materials from entering the can and thereby contaminating its contents. The jacket is designed so that it is comprised of only two separate molded pieces of insulating material, a cylindrical cup-like member and a cover, the cover being secured to the cup-like member solely by a small elastic band anchored upon the cup-like member and extending over the cover while urging same toward closed protecting position.A bearing surface is molded into the cover and cooperates with a bearing surface molded into the cup-like member, so as to obviate the need for a fixed hinge member, the latter being difficult to secure and maintain in molded insulating material and relatively expensive to manufacture.

Abstract: An improved container and closure combination is described. The container has a variety of protrusions from its neck. The closure consists of a cap cover, a tear strip, a double-hinge, and an anchor band. The improvements of the closure include providing for a flexible valve seal, an easier removal apparatus for the tear strip, a self-aligning cap and a double lock bead system.

Abstract: A closure system for a container having a closure body with a hingedly connected closure lid. The closure body has an end wall and a cylindrical skirt with internal threads for screwing the closure system onto the container. The closure lid has at least one integrally molded projection extending from its cylindrical skirt. The projection engages the closure body end wall when it is desired to dispense material from the container. This projection is rigid enough to prevent the closure lid from interfering with the dispensing of the materials from the container yet is resilient enough to fold under the closure lid when the closure system is in the closed mode.

Abstract: Dispensing valves particularly intended for use on bag-in-the-box type beverage containers comprise a molded one piece structure formed of a resinous plastic material. The structure includes a body defining a fluid passageway having an inlet end and an outlet end. The body also includes a first wall member having an orifice through which the outlet end of the fluid passageway opens. The first wall member defines a first surface extending laterally outwardly of the orifice. A second wall member is molded integrally with the first wall member from a resilient material capable of undergoing significant elastic deformation. The second wall member sealingly overlies the orifice and is joined to the first wall at locations laterally outwardly of the orifice throughout a major circumferential extent. Operating device is provided for selectively deflecting the second wall member away from the orifice to permit flow through the orifice and between the first and second wall members.

Abstract: A container with an elastically reversible hinge comprising a container body having a neck which has a port, a cover engagable with the container body for opening or closing the port of the container body, and an elastically reversible hinge integrally formed on a part of a peripheral edge of the cover, wherein the elastically reversible hinge comprises a tongue-shaped attaching base having a pawl, integral hinges and an elastic piece of substantially L shape. Thus, the container with an elastically reversible hinge can eliminate the inconvenience associated with a cap which is troublesome to attach to or detach from the container, and the inconvenience of the removed cap being separated unintentionally.

Abstract: A container closure formed in its closed state of a springy, elastomeric plastic, to be snapped onto the neck of a container with a ring-shaped retaining portion (2). The retaining portion (2) is connected via a hinge (10) to a re-closable lid (3). A tear-off strip is formed in the join between the lid and the retaining portion in the area opposite the hinge (10). The strip (4) is defined by scoring (6, 7) to diminish its strength. A seal is provided in the join between the lid (3) and the retaining portion (2), in the circumferential sections between the hinge (10) and the ends of the tear-off member (4), said seal being in the form of material bridges (5) spaced around the circumference of the closure. The tear-off strip (4) extends along approximately half the circumference of the closure and is connected with substantially rigid joins between the lid (3) and the retaining ring (2) so that the closure can be pressed onto the neck of the container without the material bridges (5) being broken.

Abstract: A snap hinge closure connects two parts, such as, for example, a lower and an upper part of a closure. Both parts have casing walls which, in the closed position of the hinge, match vertically above one another. On both sides of the film hinge, tension bands are positioned, which, in the closed position, are tensed. The tension bands are held, with their ends, in recesses (11) in the casing walls, and have, over their entire length, an approximately uniform cross section. The outermost surfaces of the tension bands align with the casing external surfaces.

Abstract: An improved reinforced snap open hinged dispensing closure for a dispensing container. The closure having the snap open feature such that the closure lid is retained in an open position away from the dispensing opening of the container. The closure lid has a pair of hinges and a central tapered hinge strap formed therebetween. The hinge strap includes at least one reinforcing rib joining the hinge strap to the closure to improve the durability thereof.

Abstract: An improved child resistant closure for a container comprises a base fixedly securable to the container, the base having an orifice communicating with an opening defined by the neck of the container and a first engaging means, a cover having a second engaging means, one of the cover and the base having a deformable portion, such that the cover is moveable between a closed position wherein the cover obturates the orifice in the base and wherein the first and second engaging means are engaged for retaining the cover in the closed position, and an open position when the orifice is exposed for dispensing the contents from the container, the cover being moveable to the open position by deforming the deformable portion which serves to disengage the first and second engaging means.

Abstract: A snap hinge dispensing closure has dual dispensing capability for dispensing large or small quantities of content from a container on which it is used. The hinged cover cap when opened exposes a large orifice dispensing spout on the body of the closure, and when closed the large orifice connects with a small orifice in the cover cap. The small orifice is controlled by a rotary disc mounted on the cover cap which includes a spout that registers with the small orifice for dispensing smaller quantities, or is set out of registry to close the small orifice. Upon opening the cover cap about the hinge, the large orifice is accessible to dispense larger quantites of content from the container.

Abstract: A dispensing closure for attachment to the finish of a bottle to selectively permit or prevent the dispensing of a flowable product in the bottle through an opening in the closure. The closure is made up of a molded plastic, cup-shaped base cap member, the dispensing opening being in a top of such base cap member, and a molded plastic generally planar closing member an end of which is pivotally received in a depressed socket portion of the base cap member. The closing member carries a plug which is engaged in the dispensing opening of the base cap member when the closing member is in a first position relative to the base cap member, and the plug is out of engagement with the dispensing opening when the closing member has been pivoted with respect to the base cap member from the first position to a second position.

Abstract: A method for the alignment of a closure having a directional orifice onto a container to provide said directional orifice with a specific alignment with respect to said container as well as the resulting article are described.

Abstract: This relates to a dispensing cap including a cap body and a cover which are connected together by suitable hinges so that the cover may swing between a fully open position and a fully closed position. In association with the hinges, there is a strap which connects a bendable wall portion of the cover to the cap body. The strap, in the open position of the cover, is located on one side of hinge centers and as the cover is swung towards a closed position, the strap passes through an overcenter position where a greater length of strap is required, thus effecting bending of the cover wall portion between the hinges to provide a spring effect. In the closed position of the cover, the strap is on the other side of the hinge center and bending of the cover wall portion is held to a minimum.

Abstract: A vial or other container includes a hinged closure member having a latch for securing the closure member in a closed position. The latch includes a "child resistant" configuration wherein it is very difficult for adolescents to open the container and an "easy open" configuration wherein it is relatively simple for persons with limited manual dexterity to open the closure member. The latch includes a bipositional tongue hingedly attached to either the container or closure member. The tongue is hinged to allow for the various configurations and, when in the child proof configuration, substantially requires use of both hands and a substantial amount of dexterity in order to open the closure member. Various devices are further provided to protect the tongue from manipulation by adolescents and for indicating previous tampering with the container. The closure member is connected by a hinge to the container.

Abstract: A tamper indicating closure for a container has a center section provided with a ring which may be pulled to open the container. The pull out center section forms part of an insert which is held in position by a cap base. The insert is interposed between the cap base and the neck of the container so as to form a seal between the cap base and the container. The insert can be formed of a softer more easily torn material than the cap base. The cap base can also serve as a pour nozzle for easy pouring, and also will cooperate with the cap lid to obtain a secured closure of the container once the center section of the insert is removed.

Abstract: A flip-top-type cap for containers which dispense products such as shampoo, lotion, liquid soap and condiments is disclosed. The cap is comprised of (a) a base portion containing an orifice, and (b) a top portion mounted to the base portion at one side by a hinge connection, with a stopper in the top portion to mate with the orifice; and an operating member mounted to the such that one end of the member is exposed at the same side of the closure as the hinge connection. Lateral pressure on the member forces it against a contact surface in the cap, which in turn forces the top and bottom portions apart, thereby disengaging the stopper from the orifice. Disengagement of the stopper from the orifice, swinging open of the cap, and closing the cap to reengage the stopper and orifice are all accomplished by a single thumb or finger of one hand, while that same hand alone holds the container to which the cap is secured.

Abstract: A molded plastic dispensing closure for attachment to the finish of a container. The closure has a body portion which is directly attached to the finish and a cover portion which is hingedly attached to the body portion and which is foldable with respect to the body portion. The body portion has a dispensing opening therein which is surrounded by an outwardly extending dispensing spout, and the dispensing spout is surrounded by a generally flat annular surface. The cover portion is foldable with respect to the body portion between a first position, in which the dispensing spout is sealed by inner and outer annular sealing fins that are carried by the cover portion, and a second position in which the container is open for dispensing through the body portion. One of the body and cover portions of the closure is provided with a secondary sealing fin which seals against the other portion in an annular pattern that surrounds the generally flat annular surface when the cover portion is in the first position.

Abstract: A cap for covering a container, the opening of which is initially blocked by a sealed lid. The bottom of the cap is provided with a deformable part provided with a perforation means. A deformable part initially occupies a position in which the perforation means is maintained at a distance from the lid. At the moment of first use of the contianer, the deformable part is lowered to a position in which the perforation means penetrates the plane of the lid. The configuration can be used with screw-on caps, particularly with caps having tamperproof bands, or with hinged caps.

Abstract: A watertight hinge closure for a dispensing container. The closure has a lid with a solid unitary one-piece hinge which snaps shut onto a cap body integrally formed therewith. The lid and hinge are formed to leave a minimal space between the lid, the hinge and the cap body when the closure is in the shut position. The top of the cap body has a raised portion which is angled toward the snap fit portion of the lid opposite the hinge to prevent seepage and to avoid stagnant areas which could cause contamination.

Abstract: A snap open hinged dispensing closure for a dispensing container. The closure having the snap open feature such that the closure lid is retained in an open position away from the dispensing opening of the container. The closure lid has a pair of hinges and a central tapered hinge strap formed therebetween.

Abstract: A press-to-open dispensing closure is provided for the mouth of a container. It includes a closure body and a nozzle assembly carried by the closure body. The closure body has a deck extending across a portion of the container top, and the deck defines a port through which communication with the container interior is established. The nozzle assembly includes a forwardly projecting dispensing nozzle and a rearwardly projecting actuating member above the deck. The nozzle assembly is pivotably supported in the closure body to accommodate pivoting movement between an open and a closed position. In one embodiment, spring members are provided on the closure body and project upwardly for resiliently biasing the nozzle assembly toward the closed position.

Abstract: Closure for selectively closing an opening in a wall, including a base element arranged to be affixed to the wall adjacent the opening therein. In one form, the closure includes an insert having a through opening and defining a recess adjacent the through opening. The insert is urged sealingly against the wall about the wall opening thereof, with the through opening of the insert being aligned with the wall opening. A control element is provided having a connecting portion swingably mounting the control element to the base element, a stopper portion adapted to be received in the insert opening when the control element is pivoted to a first, closed position, and a presser portion adapted to be engaged by a user's fingertip to pivot the control element to withdraw the stopper portion from the insert opening and dispose the presser portion within the recess in a second, open position of the control element.

Abstract: A safety closure for a container having a tubular neck surrounding a passageway having an outlet aperture for pouring contents from the container, the safety closure comprising a cap in the form of an inverted cup having an outer peripheral wall and an inner peripheral wall concentric with the outer peripheral wall spaced apart inwardly a short distance radially of about an eighth of an inch. A closure wall extends across the top having a closure tab hinged at one end for pivotal movement between an open and closed position. When in the closed position it closes an aperture opening to a central cavity bounded by the inner peripheral wall, the central cavity in turn opening to the open bottom wall of the closure cap for communication with the chamber of the container when the closure cap is in place thereon. The free end of the closure tab terminates at the peripheral edge of the outer peripheral wall and seats in a cut out portion thereof when in the closed position.

Abstract: A dispensing closure for attachment to the finish of a bottle and a package which includes a bottle and such a dispensing closure attached to the finish thereof. The closure includes a molded plastic body portion with an irregular, generally horizontal top structure and a dispensing opening in such top structure, a pivotable member which is frictionally and pivotally attached to the top structure and which is pivotable in a vertical plane between a generally horizontal, closing position and an upright, open or dispensing position in which a dispensing passage in the pivotable member is aligned with the dispensing opening in the body portion.

Abstract: A container neck insert for providing a safety feature upon removal of a conventional covering cap. The insert is in the form of a plastic disk molded with a portion which engages a recess in the container neck and is retained therein. In one form the safety feature provides tamper indication by using a circumferential frangible opening line and a pull tab for removal of a portion of the disk. In another form, the safety feature provides child-resistant access to the container by acting as a pivoting door having a closing feature when the opening force is removed.
