  • Patent number: 5788098
Abstract: A container with a tamper-resistant closure system has a minimum umber of simple parts yet effectively has a tamper-resistant function. A container neck has an annular flange spaced from an upper opening. A locking ring is positioned surrounding the neck below the annular flange and has a hook element that extends upwardly past the annular flange. A cap closes the upper opening of the neck and has an annular lip at an open end, a notch formed in the lip having a width slightly greater than the width of the hook element. The hook element passes through the notch and then engages the annular lip to prevent detachment of the cap unless the hook element and notch are aligned. The locking ring may have an inwardly-extending radial flange which passes through a cut-out in the annular flange to allow the locking ring to be moved into position.

  • Patent number: 5722545
Abstract: A twist-off closure is disclosed for all kinds of containers having a head and a closure cap. The container head has at its top end a sealing lip shaped as a circumferential bead. A steep, multiple-start thread is located below the sealing lip. A fin is arranged between each winding of the steep thread and the container shoulder. The closure cap has a corresponding inner thread that co-operates in the closed state with the fins of the container head causing the closure cap to be clamped, so as to prevent the container from being unintentionally opened by itself. In the closed state, the first part of the windings of the thread of the closure cap engage the fins of the container head, and this is clearly perceived as a pressure point when twisting the cap by hand. All that is required to open and close the closure cap is to twist it through a half turn.

  • Patent number: 5713479
Abstract: An anti-backoff screw cap construction for a container neck having a thread with a downwardly-facing pressure face and an upwardly-facing relief face. The cap has a depending skirt having an internal thread with an upwardly-facing pressure face for engagement with the downwardly-facing pressure face of the container neck thread. Engagement results in tightening of the cap on the container neck when the cap is turned in a screwing-on direction. The cap thread has a downwardly-facing relief face having as an anti-backoff structure, an elongate, substantially helical, resilient projecting bead which is integral with the cap thread, the bead being coextensive with an uppermost portion of its downwardly-facing relief face and being directly engageable by the upwardly-facing relief face of the container neck thread. • Patent number: 5699922
Abstract: A container closure system includes a plurality of equally circumferentially distributed pins extending outwardly from the tubular neck of the container near the opening. A detachable cap consists of nested inner and outer cap members. The inner cap member is dimensioned to receive the container neck and includes a plurality of sidewall openings for receiving the pins. The outer cap member has a plurality of locking wedges disposed on its inner surface. The inner and outer cap members are assembled so as to permit mutual rotation. Thus, when the cap is emplaced over the open end of the container, the pins are received in the openings to thereby inhibit mutual rotation between the inner cap member and the container. Then, a twist of the outer cap member in a clockwise direction brings the ramp portion of each locking wedge into engagement with one of the pins, thereby drawing the cap and the tubular member together to effect a secure closure.

  • Patent number: 5699924
Abstract: A plastic container closure has a skirt which is connected to a tamper-evidencing band by frangible bridges, all molded in a single unit. Where the closure is a cap for a container neck, there is at least one retaining means on the skirt and another on the band. The neck has two retaining means which cooperate with those on the cap to prevent upward movement of the cap without fracture of the bridges. To reduce the likelihood of unintentional fracture of the bridges, particularly during installation of the cap on the neck, plural ejection bumpers of extended arcuate lengths are located on the top edge of the band and or from the bottom edge of the skirt and the bridges are located between the bumpers. This snap lock ring functions to replace the conventional retaining means located centrally of the band. The invention is applicable to tamper-evidencing bands of closures and of push/pull closures of sports-type cap spouts.

Abstract: First and second engaging projected portions are formed on opposing circumferential surfaces of a tubular casing and a hollow lead portion which are rotated relative to each other so as to be coupled with, thereby spirally engaging external and internal threads formed on the respective opposing circumferential surfaces. A forward side face of the first engaging projected portion with respect to a spiral rotating direction is formed into a slanting face so as to allow the second engaging projected portion to move over the first engaging projected portion when the casing and the lead portion are completely coupled with each other. Further, backward side faces of the first and second engaging projected portions are formed into upright faces, such that the second engaging projected portion cannot move over the first engaging projected portion in an opposite direction once moving over the same. This arrangement reliably prevents the spiral engagement of the casing and the lead portion from loosening.

  • Patent number: 5413233
Abstract: A package suitable for storing and dispensing potentially dangerous material, which is resistant to opening by children yet readily openable by adults. The package is preferably a bottle which has a body and a finish portion. The finish portion has a threaded outer end for mating with a closure. A resiliently deformable cantilevered beam is connected to the finish portion between the threaded outer end and the body of the bottle. The beam is angled outward and downward from the finish portion. The beam has a substantially vertical locking surface and a pushtab spaced along the beam. The angle of the beam is such that the pushtab may be depressed substantially radially toward the finish portion. The locking surface is located between the finish portion and the pushtab so that depression of the pushtab results in a greater beam deflection and lower deflection force at the pushtab than at the locking surface. A bottle closure has threads for rotatably securing the closure to the finish portion of the bottle.

  • Patent number: 5411157
Abstract: A container closure assembly having a container neck and a closure for said container neck. The closure is retained on the container neck by a screw thread on at least one of the closure and the container neck. A sealing mechanism is provided for forming a seal between the closure and the container neck when the closure is at a sealing position on the container neck. Furthermore, there is an urging mechanism co-operating between the closure and the container neck when the closure is near the sealing position to urge the closure into the sealing position independently of whether an external closing torque is being applied to the closure, and thereafter the urging mechanism maintains the closure in the sealing position until a sufficient external release force is applied to the closure.
